[0.0s] Dumbgeons and Dragons will begin in a moment. [2.4s] Bonwyn, you walk over to this box on the desk and its nameplate has been removed. [8.8s] Inside you pull out a note and read, some memories are still being written. [15.7s] As everyone else looks around the room, there is a teacher's desk off into one side. [21.0s] There is also another door in this room immediately to the right as you enter. [27.6s] That's what you see at this moment. [29.6s] So you've got the chalkboard, you've got the teacher's desk, you've got the bottles, [33.1s] which seems like hundreds of them hanging overhead. [37.0s] There are the keepsake boxes and the room itself is noticeably much more quiet than [49.4s] every other room that you've been in so far. [53.0s] I'd say Bizard would go over to the desk and see what kind of textbooks the [57.0s] teacher would have ready for teaching class. [61.7s] As you walk over to the desk, there's a chair that's tucked in and on top of the desk [67.0s] there are cards, very similar to the one you see Bonwyn holding. [72.9s] However, as you kind of flip them open, they all appear to be blank. [78.1s] There are a couple of drawers, you pull them open, there's some writing utensils, [83.0s] some more scraps, not scraps of paper, but stacks of paper. [87.5s] But there aren't actually any textbooks. [90.4s] I'm going to take one card and I'm going to write all these cards are blank and [95.0s] put it apart from the stack and just walk away. [99.0s] Your brain works differently than my brain and I like it. [102.5s] I know. [103.5s] It's so great. [104.5s] Weird fucking riddley thing to try to riddley. [108.0s] I know there's not a puzzle to solve, but it seems right to do. [112.9s] I'm going to throw a reverse riddle at it. [116.4s] I just tuck a reverse uno, reverse card right in one of the boxes and I walk away. [122.5s] This is taken care of now. [125.8s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a D&D actual play podcast and I'm your dungeon master Russ [130.7s] More, he him. [132.3s] Also with me today is Amy More as Alydin, she her. [135.3s] Yeah, if I take something though, I think it's just stealing. [138.4s] Carla Maxted as Bonwyn Everbane, she her. [141.2s] Things are on the ceiling. [142.8s] This is not built for the shorts. [144.8s] Tom Laird as Kavlaran Goldweave, he him. [147.3s] No, I'm going to be stuck on this ball bearing for a little bit Russ. [150.2s] And Kyle Clasett as Bizard the Wizard, he him. [153.4s] And create a small needle that just juts right into my eye. [158.3s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a Patreon supported podcast made possible by listeners like you. [163.2s] Join us today at patreon.com slash dumb dragon cast where through the month of [166.5s] October you can get 50% off your first month or your first year. [171.0s] Check it out. [172.5s] Let's play. [174.5s] So right beside you, Bizard is is another doorway. [179.6s] Kav, what are you doing as you enter? [183.2s] I guess Bonwyn as well. [185.2s] You have like actually read a card. [188.6s] So both of you in turn, what are you do? [192.3s] I probably just like pick up the box, see like they're not attached to the desks, right? [198.1s] They're all just kind of sitting there. [201.0s] Yeah, I mean, how snoopy am I? [203.1s] We're playing a game, so I need to be a bit snoopy. [205.7s] Maybe I'm just like walking up and down and like kind of flipping them open, [209.7s] seeing what's in there, if they all just have if they have notes there or people have [215.1s] because you said they look like keepsake boxes. [217.1s] Maybe people just have their little treasures in them. [220.0s] The names match what we saw in the in the attendance room. [224.5s] There were desks with boxes for Maylan Everbane, Heron Linger, [229.5s] Janel Fosson and others. [232.5s] But those were the ones we knew. [234.0s] So I wrote them down. [236.3s] Yes. Is there like built in shelves anywhere? [239.1s] Can I go like test if those are sturdy or if they can move? [243.9s] Maybe slide to the side. [245.9s] Showing in a little door, like a little door that we could touch [251.1s] along as you enter along the leftmost wall. [255.6s] There is a series of big wooden drawers almost all the way to the ceiling. [261.8s] There's a window above them. [263.0s] So probably like a four or five foot clearance. [265.8s] But yeah, there's lots of these drawers along the one side. [268.8s] Bonwyn's just thinking, how did my short little dwarven [272.2s] GGGGGG ma deal with this school? [276.0s] Because I can't reach fucking nothing in here. [278.0s] Things are on the ceiling. [279.4s] This is not built for the shorts. Good observation. [283.3s] Gav, as you walk over there, there's you start pulling some of them open [287.6s] and they appear to be drawers that are assigned to the students. [293.6s] And inside, there are things they would find around the town, [299.4s] around nature, like there's sticks, there's a spoon in one. [304.2s] There's a small stuffed toy. [307.1s] Nothing inherently school related in these drawers. [312.4s] OK, is there like a name plate to indicate [315.2s] which student that each drawer is for? [318.0s] Yeah, and you see a lot of the similar names that you've run into before. [322.4s] And as you perhaps [326.5s] reach for one, let's say, Heron Linger, [332.6s] you pull them open and it's almost like there's a [336.6s] a small breeze that comes in from outside. [339.6s] And then you hear the clinking of the bottles. [342.4s] Up above you, inside their specific drawer, [346.6s] it is filled with what look to be well-worn river stone. [352.2s] Okie dokie. [354.1s] With the clinking above, does anything appear different? [357.5s] No, it draws your attention in the light in the room. [361.6s] Everybody sees fractals out among the room. [365.4s] You see kind of this rainbow hue strewn about. [370.4s] And inside [375.3s] one of the memory bottles, you see as quick glance [380.5s] you're looking all of them, as far as you can see, [383.5s] have little folded up notes inside of them. [386.7s] But there's one that you can see that looks like it has something else [390.2s] wrapped up in a piece of fabric. [395.8s] Oh, well, I'd like that one. [397.6s] OK, you reach up your. [400.8s] I mean, Cab's one of the tallest of all. [403.2s] I was going to say as a tall, I just like grab that shit. [407.0s] You can grab it. You try to pull it down. [408.7s] You've got to untie it. So it takes you a second. [411.8s] Alydin, what are you doing as Cab is doing that? [416.1s] I'm I'm going around and I'm checking out all the boxes [419.7s] on the desks and just kind of seeing what's inside of these things. [424.9s] Yeah, you open one from Janelle Foyson [429.0s] and inside is a pressed flower [433.3s] that has a label on it. [434.6s] And it says the day I wasn't afraid. [437.7s] Is that the only thing in the box? [439.0s] That's the only thing inside that box. [441.0s] Bon, when you keep moving up and down the path [444.4s] and you come across Malon's move to open the box [448.4s] and inside is a tiny bent iron nail wrapped in cloth. [455.0s] And you pick up the little card that's written with it. [457.7s] And it says the first thing I repaired myself. [461.6s] Have you managed to untie the memory bottle and pull it down [467.1s] and you pop the top off and shake everything out? [471.6s] And you unwrap the the I guess. [475.6s] Do you read the do you read the note or do you unwrap the item first? [480.2s] Oh, I didn't realize there was a note and an item. [482.7s] I got to read the note first. [484.0s] Absolutely. Is it like super rolled up? [486.4s] Can I like unroll it like a tiny little scroll? [488.7s] Absolutely. Yeah. Excellent. [490.7s] So yeah, you unroll that. [492.4s] And it says we all waved goodbye to the hall monitor today. [497.9s] And you feel the item still wrapped up in your hand [502.6s] and it feels spherical. [504.3s] You untie it and open up the the fabric. [508.4s] And it looks like just a small metal ball bearing. [511.7s] OK, can I do like an arcana check or anything [514.7s] to see if I get any vibes from it? Absolutely. [517.4s] He's going to tell you you get vibes. [519.0s] He's not going to tell you what kind of vibes. [521.8s] So that is a 1212 on the arcana. [525.6s] You get as you roll it around in your fingers, [527.9s] you get distinct vibes that this is a ball bearing. [531.1s] OK, chill. Yeah, it's. [533.4s] Did we have something that said something similar to that in a previous [539.0s] room that sounds familiar? [541.1s] Something about ball bearings on a board? [543.0s] No, no, something. [545.3s] It appears to be a ball bearing. [547.0s] No, something about saying goodbye to the hall monitor. [551.1s] Yeah, one of the journals, one of the journals, one of the pictures [554.9s] said like something like the hall monitor says goodbye to every student. [560.4s] Oh, you're right. That is. Yeah. [562.6s] See, why can I remember stupid shit like that? [564.8s] That probably is very inconsequential ADHD. [568.0s] What if it's the key to the whole thing? [569.6s] It might be the most important thing we've ever had. [572.3s] This case is blown wide open now. [575.0s] We got the smoking gun. [576.4s] The the exact one was in the last room that you were in. [579.9s] And it was it said the hall monitor says goodbye to every classroom. [584.3s] Yeah, you got it. [585.2s] Steel fucking trap right here. [587.3s] God damn hourglass. [591.4s] I think about that once a week, once a week. [594.8s] I think about that. [596.1s] I spend far too long thinking about hourglasses. [599.0s] I love it because I see them. [600.6s] And every time I see one, it makes me think of you. [602.9s] And I'm like hourglass. [605.2s] Yeah, I love it. [607.3s] There's more around than you would think. [609.0s] Because it does come up like. [611.8s] Semi-regularly, great. [613.9s] I'm going to open that door. [616.6s] We're trying to distinctly missing from this room. [620.6s] Obviously, there is another door, [621.9s] but you do not see the hall monitor that that did enter here. [627.4s] And bizarre, you go to open the door and it is locked at this moment. [637.3s] Like the door to exit the well, there's the door that you came in, [641.5s] which is still a jar, but there's a door immediately [644.6s] to the right behind the desk or beside the desk. [647.3s] And that one is yeah, that one is locked. [649.8s] OK, another locked door over here. [653.4s] So and all of these cards are blank, except for this one. [657.6s] You're finding anything of merit? [660.9s] I don't know, just a little memento from from Malin. [665.0s] First thing she repaired. [667.8s] May just kind of hold it up. [670.3s] That's a neat keepsake. [672.3s] Yeah, yeah. [673.5s] Are you going to keep it? [674.6s] I didn't know if I should keep it. [676.5s] I put it. This one had a flower. [679.3s] And this is just my own justification. [681.9s] But this is like my inheritance, right? [684.2s] Like she would want you to have it. [685.8s] She'd probably want me to have it. [687.9s] Yeah, if I take something, though, it's I think it's just stealing. [691.8s] Well, we don't know where these people are, if it's been like. [695.4s] So many generations, I don't know. [698.8s] What's the statute of limitation on? [701.3s] Exactly. I would feel weird about just ransacking the place, but [706.6s] what do you find, Cav? [708.9s] I got this cool ball bearing. [710.9s] Interesting. Mechanical. [713.8s] Not a lot of mechanical stuff in here, except for [717.9s] whatever we're like hearing, maybe. [720.7s] Yeah, all right. It came with this note, too. [722.6s] And I tell them the contents of the note, Russ. [724.8s] So these all have little notes with them about [728.4s] a memory or something that happened. [730.4s] Yeah, it seems like it. [731.6s] Should we open all of them? [733.1s] Is there something important in all of them? [736.0s] Well, you think like it like it's like one of those improv [738.7s] games where everybody gets one word to tell a story. [741.1s] Alastair, you hear a soft close of one of the boxes. [745.0s] I forgot about that kid. Yeah, he's still here. [747.6s] He's got to be bad news. [749.0s] But that's for another time. [751.4s] I'm I'm fine. He's fine. [753.3s] He's not fine. [755.5s] He you hear a close of one of the boxes [758.7s] and he's holding in his hand. [761.9s] Wait, Russ, did he put like Pretty Woman himself [764.2s] where he like went to the box and then like. [769.0s] Yeah, we just look over like, what are you doing? [773.1s] He he closes and he's holding in his hand a [777.5s] what looks like a broken pencil that's been carefully mended, [781.2s] carefully glued back together. [783.4s] It says I there's something that I'm having trouble piecing together. [788.6s] This school, if it is connected to the archive, like archives [792.2s] preserve events, whereas this school seems to be preserving. [797.5s] Preserving people. [798.6s] Yeah, I like the memories and the and the observations [804.6s] that they all made in the last room and this one, certain memories. [810.5s] Yeah, that's actually what I was interested at. [813.3s] Bonwyn, you mind if I see MAlydin's nail? Of course. [817.7s] And when I take that, I'm going to try to like [819.6s] I've used that that spell in code thoughts before. [822.3s] I'm going to try to see if I can evoke a thought [824.5s] or memory out of the item using that spell. [827.7s] Oh, oh, OK. [831.0s] Tom and I are very impressed. [833.7s] Always. And sorry, which was the pencil or the ball bearing? [837.8s] It was the nail, the nail. [839.4s] Sorry, yeah. Yeah, I figured I'd go for the person. [841.6s] I've had the closest, closest connection. [844.1s] Yeah, got it. Perfect. Yes. [849.6s] OK, what do you how do you want to do it? [851.6s] What do you want to do? [853.3s] Essentially, like, you know, so for me, what I do is [857.0s] I just kind of pull it out of my brain. [858.6s] So what I'm going to try to do is cast the spell, [861.9s] but pull it out of the nail at the same time. [864.6s] Essentially, I'm altering. [866.4s] I'm going to attempt to alter the somatic components of my spell [870.7s] to redirect where the arcane energy is pulled from. [875.0s] Instead of for me, it's being pulled from the nail. [877.1s] I like it. Is there a check that you normally have to roll for this one? [881.5s] I you could make me roll an arcana check if you want to see if that works or not. [884.9s] That was going to be my my thing. [886.4s] If you didn't have if you didn't have a normal check for it. [889.6s] But no, this is this is me making bullshit up, man. [892.3s] Love it. Let's roll an arcana check. Awesome. [898.3s] That's going to be an 18. [899.9s] I like it. [901.6s] Just hang up off the call after we're done. [903.6s] That's why Tom cares about me the most. He does. [906.9s] Yeah, it's like I didn't even want you to try for a second. [910.4s] You go to bed. [911.0s] Don't even like just focus on getting through one [914.0s] and know that you're done. [915.0s] Welcome to the middle where we're setting expectation, [917.3s] not talking about how many children somebody may or may not have. [923.2s] That is how we did it, though. [924.7s] Yeah, one and done. One and done. [926.8s] It's OK. Welcome to the middle, everybody. [928.9s] Hopefully you're having a great day. [930.0s] And this episode that you're listening to is just wonderful. [932.8s] I know because I listened to it, too. [935.3s] And it was great. And I was in it. [937.2s] So I was like, wow, look at this thing. It had to be. Yeah. [941.1s] You got some prime, Amy. It's going to be good. [943.5s] That's right. I got to stop. [944.9s] I I swear to God, I heard Russ say Lepisode. [948.2s] Yes, me too. He 100 percent did. [949.9s] Like a death Lepisode. [951.2s] I'm pretty sure it was like a nod to our like Patreon version. [954.8s] Just let it slide. [956.0s] Which if you want to understand that, you could go over to our Patreon. [960.6s] Spoiler alert, join the Patreon. [962.9s] Dumb Dragon cast. [964.2s] Yeah, you get. [965.1s] There's a different middle over there and it goes some places. [969.0s] Let's do no context drops. [972.8s] Walker, Texas Ranger, Dr. Quinn, medicine woman. [976.4s] These are the things that came up. [978.4s] Feel good. Treat yourself. Treat yourself good. [982.2s] Father in law talking about beavers and being a deaf head. [985.8s] Yeah. And so it's it's a lot. [988.3s] And it's fun. Get on over there. [990.2s] Also, there's like this whole other show that Tom runs. [994.6s] You get this episode not only with a different middle [997.9s] or ad free and early access. [999.8s] Early. Oh, ad free, of course. [1002.3s] So there's a lot of stuff. [1003.5s] There's some shenanigans. [1005.2s] You also might get an episode dedicated to you. [1007.8s] Like today's patron, Jason Quinn. [1011.2s] Jason. Thank you so much. [1014.6s] I don't know, Jason, if you can hear in the background, [1017.2s] my dogs are just losing it. [1018.8s] Oh, they're going crazy. [1020.0s] They love you. [1021.2s] They're howling. [1023.2s] They're so there is Jason here. [1026.0s] They're so excited. [1028.0s] He's not. We're just talking about him and how great he is. [1030.5s] It's true. So Jason, I'm going to embarrass my dogs [1034.5s] right now when I say hi and they remember I'm home [1036.6s] and they stop howling. [1038.6s] Hi, guys. Puppies. [1041.3s] They're not embarrassed at all. [1042.9s] They're embarrassed. [1043.7s] Oh, they did. And they're like, yeah, wow. [1045.6s] Yeah. It took them a second to realize the call was coming from inside. [1049.0s] Damn it. Your dogs are so smart. [1050.9s] Listen, Carla, I want you to really appreciate your dogs, [1054.2s] because what did our dog do today? [1055.8s] She hid a bone and then 15 minutes later [1060.4s] forgot where she put it. [1062.4s] Lost her shit. [1064.5s] All three of us had to go on a scavenger hunt for this bone. [1068.2s] Where she tried to beat me up. [1069.8s] Yeah, she got real pissy because she didn't want us to find it, [1072.4s] but she also didn't know where it was. [1074.0s] But she also needed to know where it was. [1075.8s] And it was inside of one of Addison's clothes bins. [1080.2s] Yeah, she like copped in and buried it. [1084.2s] So your dogs are just angels. [1087.1s] Unless I had actually left the house, or if Jason was here, [1090.2s] that is basically would have been the reaction. [1092.7s] But a lot of kissing as well. [1094.5s] Yeah, of course. [1095.5s] Yeah, Jason, so kissable. [1098.6s] That's what everybody says about Jason. [1100.7s] I didn't know. [1101.6s] Seen it all over the Discord. [1104.0s] Wow. [1104.8s] OK, let's not sexually harass the patrons too much. [1108.2s] Look, your dog said it, not me, Carla. [1110.7s] OK, I'm just translating for our non-pop. [1115.0s] Corgi kissable. [1116.2s] It's a rough translation, but it's good. [1119.0s] There's not the exact phrase to bring it across. [1121.6s] It's a complex language. [1123.6s] But yeah, you can join us like Corgi Kissable Jason [1128.2s] at patreon.com slash dumb dragon cast. [1131.2s] Where right now we have 50% off going on because it is October. [1137.8s] And we're doing that and we relaunched everything [1139.8s] and there's crazy things happening over there. [1141.5s] Go check it out. [1142.4s] New tears. [1143.2s] Come see. [1144.2s] All right. [1145.0s] Have a great time. [1147.0s] Doing what you're doing. [1148.4s] Listening to this episode. [1150.0s] Probably doing taxes. [1151.0s] I don't know what season it is. [1153.0s] Love you, bye. [1155.0s] Love you, bye. [1159.5s] OK, describe to me what it looks like. [1164.4s] So as I begin to cast the spell, [1167.8s] instead of the typical like little like mind booger [1171.1s] that comes out of me, the filings and rough edges [1174.7s] of the nail begin to stand on and almost like affected [1177.5s] by magnetism. [1179.2s] And they begin to draw out and create a small, small needle [1185.4s] that just juts right into my eye. [1189.0s] Oh my god. [1190.9s] Wow. [1191.6s] And Bizard, are you OK? [1194.7s] I take a moment and what if I see anything, [1197.4s] what do I see? [1198.3s] Everybody else sees that. [1199.5s] And for you, Bizard, it's like time stands still [1202.8s] as this needle enters your eye. [1207.2s] So all of your friends are like reaching for you [1211.6s] in panic, in fear, in trying to check you. [1215.4s] And as they freeze in this moment, [1219.1s] the wind picks back up from outside [1221.1s] and those bottles begin to clink together again. [1223.8s] And you, whether by force of the actual event [1230.4s] or by arcane decision, look up into them. [1236.4s] And these bottles clinking together [1238.2s] begin to blur and fade into this vision. [1241.3s] And you see who you can presume [1244.6s] is a very young male in everbane, [1248.3s] working at one of the desks along the side of the room, [1252.3s] which you can see across the classroom from where [1257.0s] you are now. [1258.5s] You see her gently heeding and hammering [1262.4s] and heeding and hammering. [1264.7s] And while she doesn't say anything, [1268.9s] she has a sense of accomplishment [1273.1s] that comes across her. [1276.6s] And you've seen this same look [1279.3s] as she either finishes a job or hands over a gift or a job [1285.5s] that she's done particularly well on in her eyes. [1289.2s] While she doesn't say anything, [1292.4s] you get a feeling that in this room, [1294.7s] the children were trusted to preserve not only [1298.6s] their own story, but one another's story. [1301.4s] As this memory in and of itself [1304.8s] finishes, your spell almost hops to the ball bearing [1314.6s] that you see clutched in Kavlaran's hand. [1318.3s] You feel a pull to it. [1320.2s] And this memory begins to morph into the hall monitor. [1325.8s] It's not Joe. [1327.3s] It, in fact, looks like the same hall monitor [1330.6s] that walked by that you've seen in this place. [1335.1s] A lot of similarities there. [1337.0s] But you get this sense of a fact [1342.1s] that there is a fondness, almost a parental care [1348.9s] that this monitor is presenting and giving to these kids. [1353.3s] And they are, I don't want to say eating it up, [1356.9s] but they're loving it. [1360.1s] There's kids wrapped around his wooden legs. [1364.7s] They're handing him cards. [1366.4s] They're showing him their drawings. [1370.0s] You can sense that this creature, this entity, [1374.8s] is very important to every student who passed through here. [1381.1s] And as one is going to hand the painting or the drawing [1385.1s] to the hall monitor, he reaches for it, [1388.1s] and then the memory sucks back. [1391.6s] And the shavings that formed into a needle, [1395.3s] you feel yourself crying them out of the eye. [1401.0s] Your eye begins to tear up, and you [1404.1s] can feel the shavings now dripping down your cheek [1407.6s] as everything comes back. [1409.3s] And the scene picks back up, and everybody's [1411.1s] rushing towards you. [1412.4s] Bizarre, are you OK? [1413.9s] Are you OK? [1414.8s] Oh, my. [1415.6s] That was. [1417.8s] No, I'm fine. [1419.1s] But you see Bizarre's entire left eye is now just solid gray [1424.0s] instead of being speckled. [1425.6s] So it's more like a solid gray on one side, [1428.0s] and the right side is green with speckles of gray on it [1430.6s] now. [1432.1s] I'm fine. [1433.3s] I have a little bit of an eye ache. [1435.2s] Look fine. [1437.1s] I bet you do. [1438.2s] She smacks her shiny eye and is like, [1441.2s] not that I can talk about that, [1443.1s] but it looks worse than it did before. [1445.3s] Well, I did learn, at least, that how important Joe [1451.1s] is to the school and to the people in it. [1455.4s] And this room was meant to encourage the children [1460.4s] to keep track of their own memories [1463.1s] and help others with their stories. [1466.5s] So it's so nurturing. [1471.2s] It's a very, it's a different school environment. [1478.2s] Sounds nice, actually. [1480.0s] Yeah, it does. [1482.8s] So we should definitely try to figure out where he went. [1487.3s] Yeah, and if the kids aren't here, [1492.3s] what's keeping him here? [1494.7s] Is it just the sense of duty that they could come back? [1497.6s] Is it that they are here just not in the same plane as us? [1504.6s] Like, they could be standing, they [1506.2s] could be sitting right there taking notes, as far as I know. [1509.4s] And we just don't have the ability to see them. [1512.2s] That's so creepy. [1514.4s] Yeah, I don't love that. [1515.9s] It's possible. [1518.4s] I don't know if it's true. [1519.4s] I just keep an eye out for things. [1522.9s] Observe. [1524.2s] Wink. [1525.1s] Yeah, ow. [1527.1s] But I didn't know if that would work or not, [1529.0s] and sorry if it freaked you out. [1531.0s] Well, yeah, it did. [1533.6s] I mean, I just have a thing with eyes and foreign objects. [1537.4s] It's just, yeah. [1538.8s] Totally fair. [1539.9s] I did not know what was going to happen. [1542.4s] I was kind of freewheeling with magic. [1545.4s] And Alydin, take that as a lesson, [1547.0s] because you start freewheeling magic, figuring things out. [1549.8s] You're not exactly sure what the end result is [1551.8s] going to be. [1552.6s] Positive, negative, injuries. [1555.1s] Something in your eye. [1556.4s] Yeah. [1557.9s] Yeah. [1558.6s] Experimentation's always fun, sometimes. [1560.5s] OK. [1561.6s] Alydin, as you are disturbed by the scene before, you kind [1567.3s] of plunk yourself down in a desk and re- [1571.2s] And then jump up and you just sat on some other kid. [1573.8s] Right? [1577.2s] Yeah, and jump up. [1578.2s] And the desk you sit down at, the box is open. [1583.6s] It's not one that anybody has particularly looked at. [1586.9s] You look and you see the name Heron Linger on it. [1590.0s] And inside, you see one small river stone. [1593.6s] Can't read the note inside. [1597.0s] Why? [1598.0s] Because it's upside down. [1599.4s] Oh, well. [1600.4s] Pfft. [1604.9s] Fuck you. [1605.6s] It was written in invisible ink, [1608.0s] and you don't have the little black light. [1610.9s] OK, well, I guess I never get to read [1612.9s] that note to upside down. [1614.0s] We'll never know. [1615.0s] You're reaching in. [1615.8s] I have no way to solve it. [1616.9s] And grab it. [1617.8s] I am playing with the rock and looking at the note. [1621.8s] It says, from the old shoreline. [1625.1s] So when did this lake dry up? [1628.8s] Hmm. [1630.2s] I don't know. [1630.7s] What was it, hundreds of years ago? [1632.3s] I think, I mean, that's always kind of, [1635.1s] I think, what we were taught in school, [1636.9s] that many, many generations ago, [1639.8s] there had been the settlement here, [1641.6s] and then something happened with the lake, [1643.7s] and then they had to make Vindersmith because of that. [1646.6s] But it never, either we never learned, [1649.3s] or I just don't remember exactly what happened. [1653.6s] But it was a long time ago. [1655.7s] Well, this one says, this rock [1658.3s] is from the old shoreline. [1661.0s] Huh. [1662.8s] So before things went bad? [1667.4s] I guess. [1670.4s] Yeah, because it was over time that the water was poisoned [1676.0s] and that they had to, I'm sure it just wind up dwindling. [1680.9s] So do you think, we saw the door pulsing [1688.9s] when we were messing with names. [1692.5s] Mm-hmm. [1694.1s] Do you think that manipulating or using these items, [1701.8s] like, I want to, I'm curious if that flower you found [1704.8s] and that stone, they come from the lake, we take them there, [1706.9s] does it bring the lake to life in any sense of the archive? [1712.4s] Because these are archived items. [1714.6s] Right. [1715.8s] By the definition of archive, technically, [1719.2s] these have been archived. [1722.1s] Do you want me to run them outside and put them down [1726.8s] where the lake was? [1727.8s] I think let's get behind this door [1730.2s] and talk to old Joe first. [1734.0s] So anybody can pick a lock? [1737.8s] Anybody? [1739.0s] I can, maybe. [1740.5s] And I do, and after you. [1741.8s] Have at it. [1742.3s] Because I was going to offer, but let's get [1744.6s] Alydin out there doing crimes. [1746.5s] Absolutely. [1747.1s] Alydin, do you keep the stone in your hand? [1750.0s] I put it in my bucket, yeah. [1751.9s] Yeah, you put it in your bucket. [1753.9s] You put the lid from the box back down. [1755.8s] You hear a soft click as it closes. [1758.7s] And you begin walking over to the door [1761.3s] that Bizarre was unable to open. [1764.3s] What do you do to? [1765.8s] Oh, I'm making a big show of it. [1767.2s] I'm like, oh, cracking my knuckles. [1769.8s] Like, yeah, OK, so it's been a minute because I haven't, [1774.7s] not that I did it a lot. [1778.9s] I haven't had to in a while. [1782.4s] But I got some things. [1785.0s] And I'm rummaging through my bucket like, yeah, no, [1787.9s] it's like they're way down here because I haven't used them [1791.3s] in like such a long time. [1793.4s] And I take out my thieves tools. [1797.2s] And I start to try to pick the lock. [1800.5s] As you pull out the thieves tools [1802.4s] and you begin to move towards the lock, you hear, [1806.5s] everybody else hears it as well, [1808.0s] but you hear the hanging bottles begin to chime softly [1811.6s] together as like another breeze passes through. [1816.4s] How does that make me feel? [1817.6s] Is that like, is it like creepy or like wind chimes [1821.0s] and kind of pretty? [1822.0s] Yeah. [1822.8s] Is it nurturing or is it foreboding? [1826.6s] Did we determine where the breeze is coming from? [1828.5s] No, we did not. [1829.9s] Through the open door. [1831.0s] So you're assuming from outside. [1833.9s] Yeah. [1835.2s] I thought it was a magical breeze. [1836.7s] Me too. [1838.0s] And I was just going with that. [1839.3s] Like, oh, it's fine. [1840.1s] It's a magic school. [1841.1s] There's almost a sense of like nostalgia. [1845.4s] So it's not good, not bad. [1847.9s] And as you reach towards the door, [1849.9s] before you even put the tools into the lock, [1855.0s] you hear a soft click of the mechanism. [1859.5s] I've done it again. [1861.8s] Proud of you. [1864.6s] Great work. [1865.4s] Job well done. [1866.4s] Thanks. [1867.2s] As you're showboating. [1869.0s] And anyone ever intimidate a lock open? [1871.2s] I mean, I didn't even see her like use the tools, but. [1874.3s] I'm gonna grab a card and write, [1875.5s] this lock was easy to pick. [1879.3s] Everybody else you see like over the top of Alydin. [1884.9s] Bizarre, you didn't see it before, [1886.8s] but it's definitely there now. [1888.6s] There's a plaque on the door. [1892.2s] Same as every other room you've walked into. [1895.7s] And it says craft. [1899.8s] Crafts. [1901.5s] This is the parenthetical that was next to Malin's name. [1904.2s] Yeah, it is. [1906.1s] Oh, I wanna open the door. [1909.1s] Let's get in there. [1910.0s] You unlocked it. [1910.8s] You opened it. [1911.7s] Go for it. [1912.5s] The door handle turns and immediately you're hit [1916.0s] with a. [1917.8s] Poison dart. [1918.7s] Poison dart. [1919.5s] It's been totally chill up to this point now. [1922.2s] I should have checked for traps. [1923.7s] Rule for initiative. [1924.6s] Why am I like this? [1926.7s] No, you are hit with the scent of cedar, [1929.9s] oil and worked metal that fills the room. [1933.5s] It reminds you a lot of the forge. [1937.0s] Work benches stand in perfect rows, [1939.8s] each holding neatly organized hand tools. [1943.9s] They're half finished projects that rest exactly [1946.7s] where their makers left them. [1948.4s] Across there is a chalkboard and written on it. [1951.3s] It says, repair what can be repaired. [1955.5s] Replace only what must be replaced.
