[0.0s] Dumbgeons and Dragons will begin in a moment. [2.8s] The heavy front doors open without resistance to the [7.3s] Lingersville Academy. [8.7s] Warm afternoon light spills across the polished wooden [11.4s] floors untouched by dust. [13.8s] Rows of neatly hung student coats line one wall. [17.8s] Umbrella stands remain full. [20.4s] A large slate chalkboard dominates the entrance hall. [25.2s] Written in perfect white chalk are the words, welcome students. [31.3s] Visitors, please await classification. [34.9s] Attendance begins shortly. [38.0s] Fresh chalk rests neatly on the tray below. [41.0s] A polished brass bell hangs beside the board. [45.2s] It has been wound, you can tell, recently. [49.7s] Nothing here feels abandoned. [52.2s] In fact, it feels expected. [56.8s] As you walk into the room, you see two doors that are closed [62.5s] behind the chalkboard. [64.8s] As mentioned, there are coat hooks and a little like student [67.7s] seating area, often to the left and right. [71.2s] The wall is lined along the left and to the right. [74.4s] There are five hooks all empty along a very similar [79.7s] wooden coat rack. [81.7s] Do we hear any noise? [83.7s] Like, is there any sound as if there are students in a [87.1s] classroom or does it seem abandoned? [89.7s] You don't hear anything from further inside the building. [93.8s] Not like a switch just hitting a kid. [96.1s] Just, oh my God, it's from a different time. [98.2s] They were really, they were punishment. [101.3s] Wait a moment. [102.1s] And then you hear, ow, stop, God, why? [107.7s] I wasn't here before, but somebody recommended it. [113.2s] I'm sorry. [114.0s] And then they yes-ended it. [115.9s] No, you don't hear anybody screaming. [120.0s] Little Timmy's been here for centuries without rain getting [122.7s] switched yet. [126.3s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a D&D actual play podcast and I'm [130.1s] your Dungeon Master Russ More, he, him. [132.6s] Also with me today is Amy More as Alydin, she, her. [135.9s] You just wait until I turn this bucket into a bucket of [137.8s] holding. [138.4s] Carla Maxted is Bonwyn Everbane, she, her. [141.4s] I hit control F. [144.4s] Tom Laird is Kavlaran Goldweave, he, him. [147.3s] Nobody thought there was Russ. [149.4s] And Kyle Clasett is Bizard the Wizard, he, him. [152.4s] You might be right. [153.8s] Let's go. [154.3s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a Patreon supported show made [157.1s] possible by listeners like you. [159.8s] Join us today at patreon.com slash dumb dragon cast and get [163.5s] a free seven day trial to try everything out over there. [166.9s] And now fuck it. [168.4s] Let's play. [170.4s] You don't hear anything as you enter the building. [172.8s] How about smell? [173.6s] Musty or like exactly the smell of a school that seems [177.0s] to never change? [177.8s] It does smell exactly like a school that's never changed. [182.5s] It smells, it doesn't smell musty, there's no dust. [187.4s] It looks as if this entire area has been fairly well kept up. [197.8s] Like if you were to walk into the school back in [201.8s] Vintersmouth, you'd say that's, you know, they were [205.4s] expecting students tomorrow kind of thing. [208.7s] Sure. [209.1s] Okay. [209.4s] Well, perhaps the attendant just needs to be summoned. [215.1s] Going to ring the bell, see if there's like a little [218.0s] hammer, it's got a clapper on it or something. [220.8s] Yeah. [221.1s] We had a good experience with the other ones. [223.4s] So let's just, let's get them out here. [227.0s] Let's get them out here. [228.5s] Brazard, you walk up to the bell and give it a ring and [232.4s] it rings this clear tone that you hear echo throughout the [237.0s] entire space and several long seconds later, you hear a [242.3s] second bell that answers from somewhere, what sounds like [246.9s] below. [248.8s] Doesn't sound like an echo though. [250.9s] It sounds like a response. [255.0s] Alastair looks at you and says, I think that came from [257.9s] underneath us. [259.6s] I mean, that makes sense. [261.4s] The other guy was underneath, right? [263.8s] So this guy might be the paper guy. [268.0s] Yeah. [269.3s] Right. [269.8s] Yeah. [271.0s] Do you guys think we should just wait here? [272.8s] Like, that's what the sign says to do. [275.2s] Oh, should we hang up our jackets? [280.2s] I think it's a good idea. [282.0s] Actually, it crossed my mind just instinctively from going [286.8s] to school. [287.2s] So look at you, you thinking about how to act in the [291.4s] school. [291.4s] I've been there a couple of times. [293.2s] Yeah. [293.3s] I'll take off my jacket and hang it up. [295.4s] My two coats. [297.4s] You take up all of them and leave none for anybody else? [304.4s] Everybody who is wearing a coat, I assume everybody goes [308.4s] and hangs up their jacket. [310.4s] And every hook along the way has a carefully engraved [317.2s] brass nameplate. [319.1s] Yours, the ones that you're hanging up on, appear empty. [323.0s] There's no engraving on them. [324.4s] That'd just be weird if it had our names on it already. [328.0s] I know. [328.4s] Did you imagine? [329.4s] It seems odd. [333.5s] Do you think they expect visitors often? [336.8s] Well, who is they? [337.6s] There's not supposed to be anybody here. [339.2s] That's true. [341.6s] But nothing about this place in this town has seemed normal. [347.6s] Can I do like a general vibe check? [349.5s] Because for Carla, this seems fine. [351.8s] Again, all based on that other attendant guy being chill. [355.5s] Yes, absolutely. [356.8s] It's the only reference point we have. [359.2s] Even though we're in an abandoned town. [360.6s] But it's like, this feels kind of OK. [363.2s] It seems less scary than the portal door in the middle [368.4s] of the empty lake. [369.8s] I would take an abandoned, maybe not abandoned, school [372.4s] any day over a random portal in a dried up lake. [376.2s] There doesn't seem to be any immediate danger. [379.5s] You can just look at anything you want. [381.0s] So there's the the chalkboard, the coat hooks, the brass bell. [386.4s] The floor looks immaculately clean. [389.4s] What would you like to look at? [391.0s] I am actually fine to hang up my coat. [395.0s] And did it seem like one of those doors was closer [398.7s] to where the sound was coming from below? [401.8s] It did sound like it was coming up from beneath you. [404.4s] So either either door at this point [407.1s] doesn't really [410.5s] it doesn't lean one way or the other right now for you. [413.3s] What do you say, guys? [414.6s] Both at the same time? [417.2s] Cthulhu style. [421.1s] If you don't get that reference, listen to Call of Cthulhu. [423.7s] It's on our Facebook page. [425.1s] And we make some really good decisions. [427.9s] There's some choices we're made, absolutely. [431.0s] Interesting choices. [432.0s] Bizard, I will point out for you as you're running the bell [435.1s] that the brass bell itself looks like it was recently polished. [439.0s] And as you rang it, it did feel like warm to the touch. [444.2s] OK. Yeah, I was curious if there's been some bells in the past. [448.2s] I feel like there was something in the Feywild we were in there. [450.7s] I was wondering if it was reminiscent of that or had that kind of essence to it. [454.9s] Great question. [456.0s] Trying to remember those bells specifically. [459.7s] Nothing that gives you [462.9s] nothing aside from it being a bell, [466.4s] being the spaces looks like it's kind of out of place within the town. [471.7s] Nothing that would specifically draw you back. [473.8s] No runes, no banjo man kind of paraphernalia, nothing like that. [479.5s] Not banjo man. [481.0s] Banjo man is just standing there. [482.9s] That was the second follow up question. [485.1s] OK, does it have banjo man's face on it? [488.5s] Like, is this a banjo man bell? [491.3s] Is there a banjo on it? [493.2s] Exactly. Yeah, it's a banjo bell. [495.6s] Never look at banjos the same again. [498.4s] I'm going to I'm going to take the response and say, you know, [502.1s] I think we could go ahead and head on in. [505.2s] I think so, too. [506.3s] We should go to the office. [507.8s] Well, that's where the visitors go. [509.2s] That is. That's true. [511.4s] That's where the but there's nothing labeled office, right? [513.5s] We just see two doors. [514.6s] Yeah, there's nothing, nothing indicating as you specify. [516.9s] OK, well, maybe it's this one. [519.4s] And I point right. [520.6s] You might be right. Open the door. [522.8s] Are you opening both or just the one? [525.4s] Just just the one on the right. [527.2s] So as as you all step towards the the door on the right. [531.8s] Bonwyn, you kind of take the lead. [534.5s] Alydin, I assume you can follow pretty quickly. [537.8s] Cav, you and Alastair are farthest back in this room. [542.7s] And as your friends reach the door and go to open it, [546.7s] you see that the chalkboard appears to be like cleaning itself. [551.7s] And a new phrase is being written on in chalk, [556.5s] even though the chalk remains on the sill and it says attendance is ready. [561.0s] And as you approach the door, the double doors, [563.7s] you hear them unlock with a soft metallic click. [567.4s] So did anyone notice the chalkboard has a new message on it now? [571.8s] Oh, yeah, that's a look there. [574.7s] That's how attendance is ready. [576.6s] Attendance is ready. [578.4s] Like haunted school. Is that is that what's going on? [581.6s] I mean, we've seen things being written on paper. [586.4s] Yeah. A lot recently. [588.2s] Charmed, right? Just magic-y shit. [590.7s] Just just magic-y shit. [592.3s] Yeah. Yeah. Magic. [594.1s] Everything about the Weeping Archive I've read is just [596.7s] it's just littered with magic-y shit. [598.8s] I mean, like, actually, there's something to be said here [601.6s] when it comes to the potential for illusions. [604.5s] Is. You have to question what you see as we move further into this. [610.4s] I am giving this lesson to myself, [612.9s] and I think it's important for everybody to hear it like. [617.2s] Don't trust what you see. [620.2s] Give it a second look. [621.7s] OK, that seems like a really good idea. [625.0s] Thank you. Just a good life thing. [628.5s] Yeah. Yeah. [631.1s] Still going to open the door. [632.6s] Is it a door? Is it a door? [635.3s] Is it a door? It's a mimic. [636.6s] Fuck. Jesus, no. [638.1s] Do we check for traps? [639.5s] No, you didn't check for traps. No, we did not. [642.0s] But yes, it is a it is a door and it opens into a chamber. [647.1s] And as you kind of take a half step in there, [649.7s] first one through Bonwyn, you were leading the way. [652.8s] You look to your left [655.6s] and this room, both doors open into this room. [659.6s] Oh, the chamber is lined from floor to ceiling [664.3s] with narrow brass tracks. [667.8s] Hundreds of carved wooden nameplates rest within them. [672.8s] Above the wall, five headings have been carved into the stone. [677.6s] Present, absent, excused, [682.0s] reassigned and preserved. [684.8s] There are no desks in this room, no chairs. [689.0s] No people. Only names. [693.0s] So the names themselves [696.6s] appear on the wall straight ahead of you as you walk in there. [701.4s] As you step in, there's also a teacher's podium, [704.7s] a leather attendance ledger and a brass, a polished brass bell [708.6s] also sit on on this on this podium as you enter. [712.3s] Another thing you notice as you step in [716.2s] is that this room feels like a well treated voicing booth. [723.5s] Like the sound of your footsteps, the sound of your voices [728.3s] like quickly dissipates. [729.6s] There's not a lot of echo in this room. [731.4s] Oh, Alydin definitely runs up to the podium [737.8s] and starts just like mocking teachers. [740.8s] I mean, settle down class, settle down. [744.9s] Who am I? And then I realized none of you go to my school. [748.8s] I'm like, it's true. [750.3s] Didn't take long for Alydin to turn on the whole school idea. [753.4s] Hey, after we just got it started, the kids are already complaining. [758.1s] Man. Yeah. Baby steps. [761.1s] You're right. We got him in the building. [762.6s] That's what counts. [763.7s] I want to look over at the the present, absent, excused, reassigned [768.0s] and preserved. How many like what's the number of people listed under each? [772.2s] Mm hmm. And that's on the chalkboard. [775.2s] It's on the roof. [777.3s] Yeah, it's like there's like it's up on the ceiling. [779.7s] Yes. So, yeah, the the the actual headings of them [784.3s] up here above the wall. [786.6s] And then the car there are, yes, [790.3s] chamber lined from floor to ceiling with these narrow brass tracks. [793.8s] So all along the wall in front of you are the are the tracks [797.0s] with these wooden nameplates that looks like you could manipulate, [800.8s] like a physical filing system that. [803.0s] Yeah. Yeah. [804.2s] Like how you put a nameplate on a door. Exactly. [807.6s] I was imagining I hit not going to lie. [810.2s] I was like tracks everywhere. [811.8s] I wonder if there are cars with control left with just hot wheel tracks. [816.5s] Yeah. That's right. [819.0s] So this is a manually done thing. [821.2s] Yes, exactly. So, yeah, you could if you if you were so inclined, [824.7s] you could slide them off, move names around and do it that way. [829.6s] So there are, as I mentioned, hundreds of names make [835.4s] what's going to be a good one here. [836.8s] Make a laugh for us. [838.4s] I said I'd like to control F. [841.0s] You hit control and I don't know. [844.7s] Alladin, like what do we? [847.2s] Yeah. What do we actually get to do? [850.4s] Yeah, you begin to you begin to look through them [854.3s] and you take some time. [857.1s] And there are infinite names that you don't recognize. [861.0s] But if you begin to stand out [864.7s] more specifically to you, Bonwyn, [868.1s] you see the name Malin Everbane with a denotion of craft [874.4s] underneath her name. [875.8s] And she is under preserved. [878.1s] You see Heron Linger, which is a name that you've heard [882.4s] in other documentation so far, [885.2s] with the denotion of agricultural under reassigned. [890.2s] You see Loris Harrison [893.5s] civic studies under excused. [897.3s] You see Elric River [900.9s] with the denotion of surveying under preserve. [904.2s] Junel Foyson observation [908.7s] under present and A. [911.8s] Grieves maintenance [915.3s] also under present and cav. [918.2s] I mean, the name Harrison has jumped out to you. [922.0s] Sure. But also you see one that isn't a name. [928.0s] It just says pending. [929.8s] Am I able to get more information on that? [932.6s] There's not really any more specific information at this point, [936.6s] but it stands out because everything has a name, [939.6s] has one of these several classifications, [943.0s] I guess you could call them. [945.2s] And this one does not. [949.7s] Just pending. [951.2s] I would like to flip through the ledger, [953.6s] the leather ledger that's at my podium, [957.2s] as I am pretending to be. [959.6s] Sure. As you step up to it and it's on, [963.9s] you're flipping through in the final completed page, [967.0s] kind of where this book ended off. [969.8s] You see that it reads attendance complete, [974.0s] dismissal complete, transition complete [978.3s] and continuity maintained. [981.4s] The signature line on it remains blank. [984.8s] As you flip back through, [986.4s] you see all of these pages filled out very similarly, [991.2s] all signed off in a signature that you can't really pick. [995.1s] But then you can't tell what the name is based on the signature. [998.3s] It's pretty sloppy. [999.7s] Can I pick up the book? [1001.7s] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [1004.4s] Just going to take this with me. [1005.7s] Pick it up. You have it. Oh, yeah. [1008.1s] Well, you know, just in case. [1010.2s] Hey, you're carrying a bucket. [1011.4s] Why not put some stuff in it? Right. [1013.3s] Absolutely. You just wait [1014.4s] till I turn this bucket into a bucket of holding. [1016.6s] It's got to happen at some point. [1017.9s] Are our names up there? [1019.2s] You spend some time looking through them [1020.9s] and you don't see any of your names up there. [1024.6s] And it was only the one pending, right, Russ? [1027.6s] Correct. After a few moments [1029.3s] of kind of painstakingly going through as many names as you as you can, [1036.2s] you hear some soft footsteps in this room. [1040.2s] There's doors off to the left and to the right. [1042.3s] They are closed. [1043.1s] You hear some soft footsteps off to the right. [1045.2s] In that time, do we do a quick ballpark of, you know, count, [1048.5s] count across and down and do a quick times table here in the school room [1052.2s] and figure out about how many names are on on this bad boy? [1056.2s] Yes, you could have done that roughly. [1060.6s] There's some spots missing in, but between four and five hundred names. [1065.3s] Hmm. [1067.2s] Damn. More than I thought. [1069.8s] I'm glad I asked and I was picturing like 50. [1074.6s] I want to go and slide one of the nameplates out. [1078.6s] OK, or try to slide one of the nameplates. [1081.8s] I'm going to go ahead and try to hide as somebody is walking up on us. [1085.9s] Sure. So the only place to really hide yourself [1088.7s] is either on either side of the door or behind the podium. [1091.8s] There's no desks, no curtains, no anything else in this space. [1096.1s] So while you're determining where you want to hide, [1098.6s] I will tell you what happens. [1101.8s] So you just go to take it off then? [1104.4s] Yeah, I just want to go like just slide it just because I'm perusing [1109.6s] and I'm curious and it looks like like it's a manual thing you could do. [1114.5s] So why wouldn't I? [1115.4s] Do you go for any of the names that I listed or just can I reach them? [1118.5s] Which names can I reach? [1119.6s] Yeah, you'd be able to reach [1122.4s] any of the names that I that I listed. [1124.8s] There are all within your reach. [1126.6s] I will I will look at the only name [1131.0s] that I would recognize would be Everbane. [1133.9s] Sure. So I want to slide Everbane's [1138.4s] around and take a take a look see at that. [1141.2s] So, yeah, you slide it out [1143.2s] and you can hold it as a well carved and crafted solid piece of wood. [1149.2s] It feels like a hard wood, perhaps an oak, a nice shellac on it. [1155.2s] I sniff it, I go oak, I think. Yeah, this is yeah. [1160.6s] And as you do that, [1163.2s] Bizard, where have you hidden? [1165.2s] I'm going to go from behind the door. [1166.6s] OK, the door opens and in steps [1170.9s] someone who appears familiar. [1175.3s] It looks exactly like Joe, the hall monitor. [1178.9s] OK, he steps into the room. [1180.8s] He's carrying a clipboard. [1182.2s] It's carrying a clipboard. [1184.5s] Takes a few steps in, [1187.2s] looks at everybody else in the room, not Bizard, [1190.1s] because you're behind the door, but looks at everybody else [1193.0s] and offers what appears to be the smallest, courteous nod. [1199.0s] Hi, Joe. [1200.9s] He looks down towards you, nods again, [1205.8s] looks back to his clipboard and then carries on. [1209.8s] Continues walking to the door on the opposite side of the room. [1212.4s] Oh, I want to go like right in front of him and be like, [1216.0s] Hey, do you remember me? [1217.5s] He looks down. [1218.4s] There's no response. [1220.3s] He takes kind of a half step back as you as you as you get in front of him. [1224.3s] It appears to just be, you know, protecting you from being stepped on [1228.5s] more than anything, not startled or scared to me or anything. [1231.3s] Yeah. It turns and regards everybody else in the room [1237.6s] and then puts a puts a gentle hand on your shoulder [1241.0s] and just kind of guides you to the side. [1243.8s] And he continues to move forward towards the door. [1246.5s] Rude. Towards where we came from. [1249.3s] No, sorry. [1250.7s] So you came in the double doors. [1252.1s] There are two doors left and right. [1254.2s] He came out of the right [1255.2s] and is moving across to the other door to the left. [1257.6s] See, he's carrying a clipboard, he said. [1259.2s] Yeah. Yeah. [1260.5s] Hey, am I on your clipboard? [1262.3s] And he's still walking and I'm just like, yeah, he's still walking. [1266.0s] He opens the door and kind of guards the door. [1269.5s] Has my status changed? [1271.0s] Looks down at you, offers a similar nod, [1274.8s] walks into this other room and then closes the door. Rude. [1282.2s] Welcome to the middle, everybody. [1284.3s] We're here. [1285.4s] Whiplash in the middle. [1287.2s] So glad to see you here. [1289.0s] That's that's so glad to see you. [1292.2s] Glad to see you. [1293.7s] Glad, glad and glad. [1295.7s] We're making words. [1296.5s] Yeah, that's that's all we're doing here. [1298.6s] This is how language evolves. [1300.5s] Everybody test out a new word on the show tonight. [1303.3s] That way we can really just get take advantage of this. [1308.0s] And what do we do? [1311.7s] He wants to transition, but he just said take advantage of. [1314.5s] And now it's like, no, yeah, that's not a segue I'm willing to take. [1318.2s] It was a weird call to action. [1321.0s] We would have stopped you. [1402.0s] Oh, it's one cutie. [1404.4s] Professional one cutie PRN joy. [1408.2s] Professional registered nurse Joy. [1410.2s] Could be that. Are you Joy? [1411.8s] Nurse Joy, like from Pokemon. [1414.0s] Joy the cutie nurse. [1415.7s] Guys, I think we're getting closer to this. [1417.4s] I think we maybe are solving this mystery. [1419.7s] Now, if you're wondering, OK, well, they only guessed really like one thing. [1422.8s] And then they made this leap. [1424.0s] We recorded a different middle for our patrons over there [1426.7s] where we ran through several options. [1428.2s] Oh, many options. [1429.2s] We ran through a lot of options. Some appropriate or some not. [1432.2s] So if you are one cutie nurse joy, PRN joy, [1438.3s] and you haven't listened to that one, you should go listen to that one [1440.6s] because there's oh, yeah, there's ad free throughout a lot of options. [1459.5s] Because if you're listening to this middle, you've got ads, baby. [1462.6s] You do. And sure, you can skip them. [1464.3s] This is an ad for Patreon. It is. [1466.4s] Oh, my God. You're in a middle. [1468.0s] You're in an ad. We're advertising to you right now. [1470.0s] But over there, consume ad free and early. [1475.2s] And early. And carbo bill. [1478.8s] There are benefits. Yeah. [1480.9s] Join us, won't you? [1481.8s] We want to see you over there. [1483.0s] Patreon dot com slash. [1484.0s] You saved time. [1485.0s] Dragon cast. [1486.6s] Google gobble. [1487.8s] I just had to say it between all of the one of us. [1491.2s] Yeah, I know. [1491.8s] Two things got a bit evil there at the end. [1493.6s] It's not evil. I swear. [1494.8s] The website is not patreon dot com slash one of us. [1498.6s] Dumb one of us. [1499.9s] No, no, it's not that. [1501.1s] You'll never get there. [1502.1s] Dumb of us. [1503.0s] You might get some of us. [1504.8s] Oh, dumb of us. [1506.0s] That's very OK. [1506.8s] Letting you get back to the episode now. [1508.3s] Love you. Bye bye. [1513.0s] Hmm. Yeah, not as forthcoming. [1517.8s] Hey, I don't think that's the same. [1519.4s] Not as chatty. [1520.1s] Joe's twin is like, yeah, I don't know. [1524.1s] Evil twin. [1525.2s] Evil. That's a big jump. [1526.7s] Do you think so? [1528.0s] No, I'm just being silly. [1529.7s] Rude Joe. [1530.4s] We can go. [1532.1s] We can go where it came from and see what it could have been doing. [1535.7s] OK. That is true. [1537.5s] Hey, Bonwyn, do you want this? [1539.0s] And I I hand her the plaque with her. [1543.6s] It's her name on it. [1544.4s] And I had been so nervous when Alydin was taking it down, [1548.5s] but I didn't, you know, she needs to explore the world on her own. [1552.4s] I would be like, don't. [1554.1s] Um, but I don't know. [1557.3s] I feel like until we know what's going on, maybe we should just put it back. [1561.3s] And then if everything's cool, it would be a pretty dope souvenir. [1563.9s] That would be pretty cool. [1564.8s] OK, I'll put it back. [1566.0s] I saw it back in exactly where I found it. [1568.4s] Exactly where you found it. [1569.0s] Exactly where I found it. [1570.4s] OK, you slide it in exactly where you found it. [1573.4s] And then you're going towards the door where this [1576.6s] where it came from, where it came out of Joe, a look alike. [1581.3s] OK, 2.0 Rude Joe. [1583.7s] Cav, you're still kind of looking, trying to determine, [1587.5s] you know, names on the board and that sort of thing. [1590.8s] You see Alydin put hers back and everybody's making their way towards the door. [1595.5s] And as you take a few steps away, that pending plaque, [1599.5s] you see it shift from kind of this neutral position, [1601.9s] not really in under any column. [1604.8s] You see it slide across the wall and it lands under present. [1609.2s] Huh? [1610.7s] Uh, pending is now present. [1614.4s] Oh, and I don't think their name is right. [1616.6s] Fair, fair. [1619.3s] That's very good, Alydin. [1620.7s] Thanks. [1621.3s] Um, do we I mean. [1625.0s] Because you didn't do you think that is that you? [1628.4s] Do you think you have status now because you're present? [1630.7s] Because you didn't were unknown before, right? [1633.8s] In the basement at the other school, me. [1637.8s] Yeah, you know, so you think that's me. [1640.3s] You think I'm pending. [1642.5s] I don't know. [1643.3s] I mean, you were pending and now you're here and pending. [1646.4s] I don't know. [1647.4s] It just seems like kind of a coincidence. [1649.1s] I'm the only one out of all of us. [1651.2s] You did just ask Joe who actually attends school. [1655.8s] So I should be the least mystery. [1658.2s] I'm just saying. [1659.8s] Yeah, that's fair. [1661.7s] Yeah, you have a point. [1663.6s] Russ, can I roll an insight check on Alistair? [1667.6s] Sure. [1668.9s] Just see how his whole vibe is going. [1671.1s] Yeah, seems pretty awake for a while yet. [1675.0s] And now he's present. [1676.4s] He has been awake for a suspiciously long time. [1679.8s] He has been suspiciously awake. [1681.3s] Suspiciously conscious. [1682.8s] Actually, it's been like 10 seconds. [1684.4s] We've walked into a room. [1685.6s] That's all we've done. [1686.7s] Well, no, I fucked around. [1688.0s] Pretended to be a teacher. [1689.2s] We looked around. [1690.2s] We looked around. [1691.0s] 500 names. [1692.4s] We found Joe 2.0 when he found us. [1696.1s] Yeah, Alistair, give me an insight roll. [1700.2s] 17 plus 5, so 22. [1702.9s] OK, I mean, you've been paying attention to the wall, [1705.2s] but as things are changing, you look at Alistair. [1709.8s] And Alistair, he's doing very similar to you, [1712.8s] looking very pensively at all of the names on the board. [1717.6s] You've seen him walk over to the door [1720.9s] where this automaton has walked into, [1723.9s] and it seems like the door itself was locked. [1728.9s] He turns back, and he's got his hand on his head, [1732.5s] and he says, schools record who's present, right? [1739.7s] That's what this is. [1740.5s] It feels like the attendance room. [1742.4s] But he looks back towards the wall. [1744.9s] They don't usually decide who belongs here, right? [1752.2s] He looks equally as confused as everybody else around him. [1757.8s] Everybody on this wall, there's names here [1762.6s] that seem familiar from writings that I've seen, [1765.5s] but he looks up to the ceiling, which [1770.8s] seems like it goes on forever. [1773.8s] There's so many people. [1777.4s] And what happens when somebody's preserved? [1779.8s] Yeah, great question. [1782.2s] And I mean, even reassigned, do we [1784.6s] think that means they just went to a different school? [1787.7s] They just went to Vindersmith or somewhere else? [1792.0s] I don't know. [1794.1s] And where is Janelle and Reeves? [1798.1s] They're here. [1799.1s] That's what it says, is here is not the archive. [1806.0s] The door outside is the archive, right? [1809.0s] And he goes. [1810.3s] Yeah, you're the expert. [1811.7s] You should know. [1812.4s] He goes back to the doors to the out. [1815.4s] The doors behind you haven't closed or anything. [1817.9s] You can still see out. [1819.0s] And he goes to the front door, and he looks out. [1822.9s] And Alydin, you hear a little click on Malin's name. [1827.4s] It's like just slightly off center, [1829.2s] and it clicks back into place. [1831.8s] And at that same moment, and as Alistair kind of goes out [1834.8s] to the front door there, a low vibration [1839.4s] passes beneath everyone's feet. [1842.9s] The bell below rings once again. [1848.2s] And Alistair calls. [1849.4s] He's like, hey, I think the door is brightening. [1856.2s] I run over. [1856.8s] Something new is happening. [1860.0s] Want to see? [1860.8s] You all quickly run outside, and you [1863.0s] catch just the tail end of it. [1864.3s] But what he sees is the stone frame to the doorway [1867.8s] appears to sharpen in picture and becomes brighter [1870.8s] than it was before. [1872.3s] You see now more than just the door, [1877.4s] a hallway begin to appear visible only [1881.0s] for a few seconds behind the door. [1884.0s] You can see walls beginning to form. [1886.6s] Then it begins to fade once again. [1889.2s] And Alistair stares toward the doorway. [1891.8s] And he's, something about this place [1898.1s] is certainly tied to that door. [1903.3s] And something we're doing. [1904.5s] Was it the bell? [1906.7s] The bell made it brighter? [1908.0s] The wall clicked. [1908.8s] I'm going to go ring the bell. [1910.7s] What do you mean? [1911.6s] Oh, yeah, there was a click. [1912.4s] What do you mean the wall clicked? [1913.6s] Like where I took out. [1916.5s] And replace the name? [1917.5s] Yeah, I guess I didn't do it good enough. [1920.1s] But it went back in and it clicked. [1922.4s] And you were like, oh, the door. [1925.3s] OK, I'm sure there's something we have to do. [1928.6s] We have to go check some of these other rooms, I think. [1931.0s] Well, it was MAlydin. [1933.2s] They were preserved. [1934.2s] So maybe it has to do with preserved energy in a way [1939.2s] or something in a power sense. [1944.9s] Can you guys watch? [1945.8s] And I'll go move it again, maybe. [1949.2s] OK. [1949.7s] See if it happens again. [1951.0s] Well, don't go alone. [1951.9s] I'll come with you. [1954.0s] What if you locked in there? [1954.9s] Thanks. [1955.8s] Do you do the same name or a different name or doesn't? [1959.4s] Probably the same name. [1960.4s] I want to recreate the same circumstances. [1963.6s] Take it out, put it in. [1966.5s] Wait. [1967.0s] Shake it all about. [1967.9s] Do the hokey pokey. [1969.0s] Do the hokey pokey. [1970.6s] That's right. [1971.1s] Take it out. [1971.7s] You examine it. [1972.5s] See if there's any sort of mechanism on it [1977.1s] that maybe was missed. [1978.1s] It's just a wooden plate. [1979.4s] They could have clicked, yeah. [1981.4s] You slide it back in. [1983.7s] Again, it rattles a little bit sliding in there. [1987.3s] You leave it for a few moments. [1989.4s] And then because it's slightly off center, [1992.5s] clicks back into place. [1994.4s] OK, click. [1995.0s] Did it do anything? [1996.5s] Everybody outside sees just the not quite as bright [2000.2s] as it was before. [2001.1s] But similarly, the doorway brightens again. [2005.3s] That hallway appears for a few seconds and then disappears. [2009.5s] What if there's more names that [2011.3s] need to be put in to build up a whole? [2015.4s] OK. [2017.9s] I look around for a stack of these guys. [2021.7s] I don't know. [2023.0s] There's nothing. [2024.3s] Yeah, because the back of the book [2026.0s] said that attendance dismissal and transition [2029.2s] are all complying. [2030.4s] Real quick, Malin was a crafter. [2035.8s] And when we put their name on, it builds something. [2040.0s] So let's find other crafters and see if attaching them [2043.5s] builds out more of the realm. [2046.4s] Interesting. [2047.2s] I like it. [2048.0s] OK. [2049.1s] Run back in with Bonwyn. [2050.3s] Start looking for names. [2051.6s] Start looking for more crafters. [2053.0s] Yeah, you find, well, I mean, [2055.5s] there's at least 100 names that kind of fall [2058.3s] under that craft capability under different columns. [2065.0s] You grab a few. [2067.2s] Who's standing guard, so to speak, watching the door? [2072.2s] I'll be there. [2073.2s] OK. [2074.5s] Bizarre, you and Alistair are at the door [2077.1s] watching the fading in and out from the middle [2080.6s] of the lake bed. [2081.4s] And everybody is analyzing and moving [2084.8s] all of these name plates around. [2086.4s] I figure we're moving them to the preserved column, [2089.9s] just because that's where her name is, right? [2092.8s] That's where her name is. [2094.2s] Yeah. [2094.8s] That's the only one I remember. [2096.1s] Let's try that. [2097.1s] Yeah. [2098.0s] So how many names total do you want to move? [2100.2s] The names themselves aren't. [2101.9s] Let's move one at a time and click them into place [2104.9s] and see if anything happens. [2107.2s] Sure. [2107.8s] This is a controlled scientific experiment. [2109.9s] I really feel like we're being very methodical [2112.3s] about this. [2113.1s] You grab one from under the reassigned column [2117.2s] and move it into the preserved column. [2119.6s] You stand and wait the same few seconds. [2123.3s] Goes a little longer. [2125.8s] And after you've given up on the same experience, [2131.4s] you see the name itself begin to vibrate. [2135.2s] And it slides itself across the track. [2139.6s] The track itself almost gives the appearance [2143.2s] that it's extending out and then slides across back [2146.9s] to the reassigned column and snaps back [2151.4s] into place over there. [2153.8s] OK. [2155.1s] Did anything happen to the door? [2156.9s] Nothing out here. [2159.8s] What if we mix up the ones in this row? [2163.0s] OK. [2163.6s] Like everybody in preserved, move them up and down. [2167.9s] Move them around. [2168.7s] I feel like this is one of those picture puzzles [2172.6s] where you have to move the tile. [2174.5s] Right. [2175.2s] And there's the one empty space and you have to. [2177.4s] Yes. [2178.0s] Exactly. [2179.6s] Bizard, you look back and you [2180.9s] see everyone rearranging this column [2183.6s] as high as they can reach, moving names around. [2186.6s] And on the chalkboard, you see [2189.8s] that it's changed since you guys left that room initially. [2194.0s] It now says attendance accepted. [2197.3s] Everybody else, as you finish reorganizing these names, [2201.8s] you wait about the same amount of time [2203.5s] as that secondary name that you had tried. [2206.5s] And then you see these names begin to slide out of place [2210.4s] and reorganize themselves within the wall [2213.1s] until they all finally click. [2215.8s] And then Bizard, back out in the lake bed, [2218.0s] you see that doorway begin to glow again. [2222.0s] And you see that hallway similar to before, [2224.6s] similar to the first time that Alistair called you out. [2228.4s] And then after a few seconds, begins to fade back down. [2232.1s] And it gets like it fades the most it's faded so far. [2239.7s] How about that? [2240.6s] That do anything? [2243.0s] Yeah, I think grab the coats. [2245.3s] I think we need to get in there. [2247.3s] We have to get in there? [2250.5s] Go in the fading door? [2253.4s] I have like eight more experiments [2254.9s] I want to do on this wall. [2256.9s] We didn't even go through any of the other doors. [2259.4s] I don't know. [2259.9s] If Bizard says we need to go, I think we kind of need to go. [2262.9s] I honestly don't know. [2265.7s] Oh, OK. [2266.5s] As you guys are having this back and forth, [2268.7s] everybody who's primarily in the building, [2271.2s] you hear that low rumble again beneath your feet. [2274.1s] What if there's a dragon in the basement? [2276.1s] What if there's a dragon in the basement [2277.8s] and it has to get free? [2279.0s] And we're the only ones who know that it's down there. [2281.7s] And then we'll have a pet dragon. [2284.0s] Alydin, the door that the door. [2289.2s] Fuck you, Kyle. [2289.9s] Could be a dragon. [2292.6s] I won't interrupt that back and forth. [2295.5s] The door where the Joe figure came out, [2298.6s] not where he went in, where he came out, [2301.0s] you hear the faint. [2303.0s] Actually, what's your passive perception? [2305.4s] 10. [2307.0s] I'm a G2. [2308.7s] I'm an adult. [2309.6s] OK, I'll I'll take that. [2313.1s] OK, hold on. [2315.1s] Never mind. [2315.7s] You know, that's fine. [2316.6s] Tom, what's your. [2317.9s] No, it's OK. [2319.5s] It's not it's anything you hear. [2322.6s] You're not entirely sure from where you hear [2325.3s] a similar faint click, similar to when the the doors [2329.8s] then to this room unlock. [2331.6s] Is anything happening now? [2333.9s] I assume it's going to affect the door. [2336.7s] It's fine. [2338.2s] I don't see anything changing up. [2341.4s] Alistair stay here. [2342.6s] Keep an eye on it. [2343.4s] And I'm going to head back inside to talk with everyone. [2346.3s] OK, yeah, yeah, of course. [2348.1s] I'll just stand. [2348.8s] I'm going to ring the bell. [2350.2s] I want to see if anything happens. [2351.7s] It's the only other thing that happened kind [2353.4s] of around that accepted. [2356.3s] As you walk in, he Alistair sits down on the steps [2360.6s] kind of coming up and you see him lean on one [2363.5s] of the stone railways. [2366.8s] You're ringing the bell as bizarre as you're coming back [2370.5s] in bond when you're reaching for the bell, you ring it. [2377.5s] Nothing immediately happens. [2381.0s] Five seconds, maybe more pass than you hear again [2386.0s] from beneath the Academy. [2387.7s] You hear a single bell answer from somewhere below. [2391.5s] However, unlike before, this reply [2396.2s] is followed by the sound of enormous gears [2399.4s] shifting into place. [2401.4s] The machinery continues for several seconds [2404.3s] before falling silent again. [2407.0s] Oops. [2408.6s] Alistair, anything with the door there? [2410.8s] Huh, what? [2412.0s] No. [2414.6s] Sorry. [2416.6s] No, no, nothing with the door. [2418.5s] It's the same. [2420.3s] Same fading. [2422.0s] We shouldn't leave the narcoleptic. [2425.0s] What if he falls asleep on the door [2427.5s] and then falls through the door? [2429.2s] Exactly. [2429.7s] I didn't even think that could happen. [2432.6s] I'm not touching the door yet.
