[0.0s] Prepare yourselves for the season finale. [2.4s] Dumbgeons and Dragons will begin in a moment. [9.4s] We're at the fountain at the foot of City Hall and the four of you after wing night [15.7s] and maybe a couple more oatmeal stouts and whatever other beverages you have prepared. [21.8s] A slight beer for the evening. [23.7s] A slight beer for the evening. [25.0s] Nothing heavy at all. [26.3s] Yeah, ready for a caper. [28.0s] Perfect. [29.0s] Find yourselves ready to go break into some drawers. [33.2s] What does everybody look like? [35.2s] And maybe have you done preparations? [37.4s] Have you just left the bar? [38.9s] Let's check in. [40.3s] Starting with Kav, who is the leader of this. [45.2s] Kav's still wearing his work tunic and pants. [50.9s] And he's got his messenger style bag, a little cloak over one arm. [56.5s] And just like really feeling it on the way back to City Hall. [61.0s] Well, you're supposed to be there, right? [63.2s] Like that's true. [64.4s] Maybe you forgot something at work. [67.2s] Exactly. [67.9s] Maybe you're sneaking back to do some paperwork. [69.8s] Who knows? [70.5s] Maybe. [71.5s] That's right. [73.4s] Alladin. [74.1s] I only have like one set of clothes, so I'm wearing what I'm wearing. [78.4s] But I have covered my my bucket in like I've taken like some some coal [85.9s] and some ash from a fire pit and just kind of like took the shine off of it. [91.3s] Perfect. [91.9s] You know, don't want to be too conspicuous. [95.5s] Bizarre, you are or maybe have or are in the process of casting a spell, [101.8s] which is really in the previous episode was part of this whole plan working. [107.0s] How do we find you at this moment? [108.8s] I'm going to say I probably just like dipped into a dark alley [113.4s] and come back out as Nina say, [116.6s] oh, yes, darling, this is how we are going to get into the City Hall. [120.7s] No problem. [122.2s] Roll a performance check to see how believable it is to everybody else. [127.3s] Oh, man. [128.0s] Fuck, yeah, I'm actually good at these. [130.2s] There you go. [130.7s] Oh, my God, y'all. [131.8s] That's a fucking Nat 20 for a 26. [134.6s] Oh, my God. [135.7s] Doesn't matter what it sounds like to your ears. [137.7s] This is perfect. [138.6s] Nina, like nailed it. [139.9s] Absolutely. [141.8s] So you look like Nina walking out of the walking out of the alleyway. [147.1s] And then Bonwyn, obviously Kavlaran's leading this, [150.8s] but you have the most skill in this sense. [153.8s] What is your attire going into this caper? [156.9s] I mean, I think I generally always just am wearing like my work clothes. [161.7s] I've made sure to kind of make sure anything jingly jangly is [167.3s] like secured, even though, again, we're kind of just like walking in. [172.0s] Yeah. [173.0s] I don't need to be dressed like a cat burglar, but still just want [177.1s] to make sure I can be quiet and sneaky. [179.9s] Also, for one second there, when Nina walked out, [184.5s] there was a moment when I was like, oh, fuck. [187.5s] Oh, no, oh, it's fine. [190.4s] Right. [190.9s] OK. [192.5s] Too many stouts. [193.9s] Not a lot of magic. [196.7s] Yeah. [197.3s] In my day to day. [198.3s] So this is some pretty dope shit. [201.4s] Oh, yeah, Alydin is just sitting there like, oh, it worked. [208.8s] I break for a second. [209.7s] No, it's me bizarre. [213.5s] You're good. [215.2s] I mean, you are good, darling. [217.8s] You're good. [219.6s] It's crazy. [220.8s] Unbelievable. [221.4s] And Kav is like pretty nonplus with it. [224.1s] He's seen it before. [225.1s] But like, yeah, he admits it's well done. [226.8s] And we're like the same height. [228.1s] So I kind of like, I don't know, [230.8s] tug on your shirt sleeve and bring you a little closer. [233.6s] And I go, is this going to hurt you? [239.0s] It already kind of has. [240.3s] One of those things where you have to shrink your bones. [244.4s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a D&D fifth edition actual play [247.6s] podcast. [248.5s] And I'm your dungeon master Russ More, he him. [251.4s] Also with me today is Amy More as Alydin, she her. [255.4s] Auntie Nina, did you move offices? [257.6s] Carla Maxstead as Bonwyn Everbane, she her. [261.1s] Plus, it makes me think there's something good in here. [263.5s] Because why would you do that? [264.6s] Tom Laird as Kavlaran Goldweave, he him. [267.6s] You know what, I could get one done tonight for sure. [269.8s] And Kyle Claset as Bizard the Wizard, he him. [272.8s] Prop the ownership here, and then business ownership [276.7s] over here. [277.5s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a Patreon supported podcast. [280.6s] And yes, this is the season finale, but don't worry, [283.0s] the adventure continues in September. [285.4s] And throughout the summer, we'll be having mini episodes. [287.9s] Join us on Patreon, get some more episodes. [290.0s] We hope to see you over there. [291.2s] And now fuck it, let's play. [294.8s] You're walking up the steps to City Hall [297.2s] and the doors open and we see the four of you [301.0s] slow motion like hero walking into the place. [304.6s] And as you are looking around, obviously Kavlaran [308.8s] Bizarre, I would place you at the front [311.1s] because you know where you're going. [313.0s] We interrupt this cool guy walk as a security guard [317.2s] pops up in front of you and says, [318.6s] oh, what are you doing here? [323.6s] Nina, is that you? [325.2s] Yes, darling, who else did you expect? [327.4s] Well, it's after hours. [328.8s] I didn't expect anybody to be coming in tonight. [332.3s] Which means it must be fucking important [333.8s] for me to be here, so get out of the way. [336.6s] Of course, I just have to go. [339.4s] Just let the supervisor know that you're here [341.2s] and then you're free to go, okay? [343.2s] If you could just come sign in as well [344.7s] and then we'll make sure everything's all ready. [348.0s] There's a supervisor here as well. [350.1s] You don't just take the note at night. [353.7s] No, there's a couple of us. [355.4s] One of us, he's doing the rounds right now [357.3s] and I was just watching the front, okay? [359.2s] If you could just come sign in, [360.8s] just make sure it's all, everything's fine. [363.4s] Kav, you too, and you've got friends here. [366.5s] There's usually no visiting after hours, [368.7s] but do you know Bonwyn at all? [370.8s] Oh, yeah, hey, Bonwyn, good to see you. [373.9s] Hey, how are you? [375.7s] Great, you're right. [377.6s] Leonard, you? [379.3s] I know, how's your sister? [381.1s] Oh, she's great, yeah, absolutely. [383.2s] Oh, she's doing good in Kingstown. [385.1s] I haven't seen her in so long. [386.7s] She is, she's been, she got into all the arts [390.1s] and crafts and was like, really, [392.3s] everybody has one in town here, [394.1s] so I had to go to the other city to see some more. [399.1s] As they're chatting, I pull on Nina's sleeve [401.0s] and I go, Auntie Nina, Auntie Nina, [403.4s] aren't you gonna show me your office? [406.1s] Is it true you can fire anybody? [412.0s] Make a group, either performance or deception check, [418.6s] whichever you prefer or whichever feels most appropriate [422.8s] for how your character is acting. [424.6s] 18. Deception. [426.5s] I'm just talking to my friend, Leonard. [428.8s] You're doing great. [429.6s] Do you really need to perform? [430.6s] Yeah, you don't have to perform. [432.8s] You're not lying. [433.6s] I think you're probably just like, actually, [435.1s] it's genuine. [436.4s] How's your sister? I genuinely know, Leonard. [438.0s] I'm genuinely curious about his sister. [441.2s] Well, that's a five. [443.2s] Put him a child who listens to me anyway. [445.2s] That's two out of three successes, so that works. [448.3s] He kind of looks over as Alydin starts [451.9s] loudly talking to Nina and is, you know what? [456.8s] I'll fill it out. [457.9s] You go ahead. [459.2s] I'll let Pip know that you're wandering around [461.6s] and just be quick, okay? [464.2s] And thank you. [466.8s] Good to see you. [467.6s] Good to see you, Bonwyn. [468.6s] And he heads over to the front desk. [469.4s] Yeah, yeah, say hi to Millie for me. [470.7s] So good to see you. [472.4s] Did I say we didn't sign in? [473.6s] We totally did, actually, already. [476.9s] And I am casting a spell called Gift of Gab. [480.1s] I pretty much reshaped the memories of listeners [483.1s] in the immediate area so that they forget everything [486.6s] that was said in the last six seconds [488.2s] and then they believe the verbal component, [491.2s] which is me saying, I did actually sign us all in. [494.4s] Okay, okay, is there any check or anything for that [496.8s] or it just happens? [498.3s] No, it just happens. [500.2s] And it's a reaction when you take, [502.9s] when you speak to another creature. [505.0s] This is a real, these are not the droids [506.9s] you're looking for situation. [508.0s] Totally. [508.8s] Yeah, then absolutely. [511.3s] Oh yeah, of course, nevermind. [513.3s] You're good to go. [514.6s] Well, yeah, great to see you. [516.8s] Have fun. [517.6s] He leans down to Alydin. [518.6s] Have fun looking around. [519.6s] City Hall is a magical place. [522.3s] It sure seems so, sir. [524.1s] Right. [525.0s] Yes, Alydin, so bureaucracy, let's go. [527.9s] Making your way down the first hall, [531.2s] you round a corner and Amy, [534.5s] what do you see in front of you? [537.2s] An intern memorial wall. [543.1s] Poor business practices all over the place. [546.6s] Alydin Seas is a hallway filled with portraits [550.5s] of past mayors. [554.2s] All very ornate. [557.3s] It's even for a child, she's like, that's too much. [562.2s] Like that's, it's way too much. [565.2s] And midway through this hallway, [568.1s] they have a water fountain, a drinking fountain [573.3s] that is a basin that just has some free flowing water, [576.6s] not unlike the gold one that is outside the building, [581.2s] but kind of a miniature version in here. [583.9s] And like she could not help herself. [586.7s] She kind of skips over and goes, [588.2s] look, it's water inside. [589.9s] And like, that's a drink from the fountain. [594.3s] Alydin, you run over to the water fountain. [597.0s] Everybody kind of stops for a moment. [599.9s] Everybody make perception check [602.2s] as you're standing in this hall. [604.4s] Me too. [605.9s] Yeah, you with disadvantage [607.0s] because you're drinking water. [609.4s] Eight. I feel like it's disadvantage [610.8s] just because I'm rolling it. [613.3s] Am I already not disadvantaged? [615.8s] Just your natural disadvantage. [617.9s] Yeah, well, I rolled a nine and a 17, so a nine. [621.8s] Oh. [623.2s] What's Cav got there? [625.8s] 11 was my worst. [627.4s] Okay, great. [629.5s] Everything seems to be going just fine [632.4s] as Alydin drinks water [635.3s] and you begin to move back down the hallway. [638.7s] You round a couple more corners. [641.5s] Every now and again, Nina giving a, [643.8s] or Nina giving a little commentary [646.9s] on the rooms you're passing, [649.0s] just in case one of the guard happens to be [651.0s] up and around the corner. [652.2s] Yes, so property ownership here [655.3s] and then there is the business ownership over here. [660.6s] As you're making your way down to Nina's office [662.6s] down this last corridor, [665.2s] you see up ahead something that catches your eye. [671.3s] Carla, what do you see? [673.6s] I think I see the aforementioned kitchen [676.9s] where the donuts are and it's ridiculous. [682.0s] There's an espresso machine. [684.0s] There's a bubbly water thing. [686.7s] There's fridges full of stuff. [689.6s] Nothing is, these aren't vending machines. [692.2s] This is just, this is just free for staff. [695.2s] All kinds of snacks, like a whole little [698.5s] like airport style vestibule shop of snacks, [703.2s] but just for staff, which is, you know, [706.8s] I'm not going hungry, but come on guys. [710.8s] Exactly. [712.4s] For those playing the home game, [713.8s] Amy just raised her hand for Alydin. [715.5s] Yeah, like there's a whole slew of [719.7s] underfed people on this town. [721.8s] Not that I begrudge people, free snacks at work, [724.6s] but this is just, it's too much. [726.4s] This is very much situational. [729.4s] Yeah, and wrong. [731.2s] Pull up your character sheet. [732.4s] You're going to make a check here [733.8s] to see if you can resist the snacks. [740.4s] I mean, I don't know if I could. [742.8s] You're a starving kid on the street. [744.6s] Shiny apples, bananas, like just- [748.4s] This food is kept cold. [751.8s] Yeah. [752.6s] Somehow, like. [754.2s] I mean, I feel like survival is the check to make there. [760.7s] Would you- [761.5s] It's a lot of instincts. [763.8s] So rolling us, for Alydin specifically, [766.8s] rolling a successful survival check [769.3s] would be me running and getting snacks. [771.8s] Would be you running and getting snacks, yep. [774.4s] Watch Nat 20, here it comes. [776.6s] Totally, this is Amy's best roll. [778.2s] No, no, it's a three, so just regular. [782.1s] Plus two, a five. [785.6s] I'm tugging on Baldwin's sleeve like, [788.1s] look, look, look at all the food. [791.0s] I know. [791.9s] Look at all the food. [792.7s] I know. [793.6s] Maybe just see what looks good [799.5s] and we'll go get it tomorrow. [803.1s] I want you to have these things, but like. [807.0s] Do they know how many there are? [808.7s] If I take one, will they know? [810.8s] I don't know. [813.0s] Honestly, I didn't expect it to be like this. [815.4s] I've only been in City Hall to get my business license [818.4s] and pay my taxes. [819.6s] I haven't been back here. [820.4s] Maybe on the way out? [821.7s] Maybe on the way out? [823.5s] Maybe on the way out. [824.6s] Honestly, I kind of want to swipe something. [826.4s] After I saw those gold ornate frames, [829.4s] everything in here is so ostentatious. [831.0s] I hate it. [834.1s] Filled with hope. [835.1s] Out of Nina's voice, I kind of lay down and say, [837.2s] you should totally take something. [838.9s] They really just garner how much was there [842.3s] versus the last day and if they need to order more, [844.4s] they kind of just fill it in as a need by basis. [847.4s] They don't actually keep track [848.4s] of the inventory in that manner. [851.8s] So yeah, we can take some on the way out, for sure. [854.4s] Yeah, on the way out. [855.3s] I don't want it to weigh me down. [857.2s] Yeah, good thinking. [859.6s] Because I'm going to fill this bucket. [861.3s] Yeah. [862.1s] The three adults in the situation continue walking [864.1s] and we see Alydin just longingly looking [866.6s] at the slow walk right past the kitchen door [870.4s] until one of you reaches back and there's just a yoink. [876.2s] And you make your way down to the end of this hall [878.6s] and there's a sign up on the wall [883.9s] that says Mayoral Assistant Nina C. Madonna. [890.4s] You go to open the door. [893.3s] Who goes to open the door? [895.4s] Nina. [896.2s] Nina, obviously. [897.6s] Good call. [898.4s] Nina goes to open the door and it is locked. [904.8s] Yes, I seem to have forgotten my keys. [909.3s] That's okay because we're not moving around. [911.7s] I don't know what I'm doing. [914.0s] That's amazing. [914.8s] It's good to just stay in character. [916.3s] The thing was locked and then just four sets of dead eyes [920.1s] like, well, what the fuck do we do now? [922.3s] Shit, it's locked, turn around. [924.8s] I'm going home, get the canoe on the way out. [927.2s] We couldn't have anticipated this. [929.9s] I will use my thief's tools to try to open the door. [934.9s] Please do, sleight of hand. [936.6s] You fucking problem solver is what you are. [937.9s] That is a 14. [942.5s] Yeah, you bend down and quickly move. [946.8s] I don't bend down. [947.8s] I'm very short. You're the same height. [949.6s] You reach your tools and you hear a click [953.7s] and the door unlocks and creaks open [956.9s] into a very stark and empty space. [961.9s] This isn't what I thought her office would look like. [964.9s] This isn't what her office looks like. [967.7s] There's usually a large desk in her office. [971.6s] Again, there should be some drawers, isn't there? [974.6s] Auntie Nina, did you move offices? [977.4s] No, I do not believe I did. [981.6s] You hear footsteps down at the far end of the hallway. [986.9s] Sounds like heavy, two sets of footsteps. [990.8s] You don't see them yet, [991.9s] but you hear them coming from down the corridors. [994.7s] Do I recognize my friend Leonard's voice? [997.5s] You don't hear a voice. [999.2s] Is there anywhere to be like out of sight? [1001.9s] There's in this room, there's back in the kitchen [1005.0s] and there is another door, which you know is a staircase [1010.2s] that would go up to the next floor. [1012.8s] I mean, we've got Nina with us. [1014.1s] We don't need to act sneaky. [1016.4s] True. [1017.3s] Unless this is Nina, [1019.2s] but maybe your niece wants some snacks, Nina. [1022.7s] Why don't we go get some snacks? [1025.1s] Yeah. [1026.4s] Auntie, I'm so hungry. [1028.7s] Let's double back to that kitchen. [1030.8s] Absolutely. [1031.6s] Head back down to the kitchen. [1032.5s] You get in there. [1033.3s] Alydin, you are at this point. [1034.9s] Welcome to dive into all of the food that's in there. [1037.8s] Oh, I'm filling my bucket, literally. [1041.3s] And the footsteps are getting louder [1043.4s] and they're coming towards your location. [1045.2s] And as you are all making small talk, [1050.9s] trying to look nonchAlydint, [1053.6s] around the corner you see Leonard and another guard [1059.0s] who only if you don't know him, [1060.2s] well, three of you would probably know him [1061.9s] because you worked there, would be Pip, [1064.6s] the head security guard for tonight. [1066.4s] Is everything okay down here? [1068.5s] We heard, yeah, we just heard one of the alarms go off [1071.6s] and just wanted to make sure that everything was okay. [1074.7s] We're just getting some snacks. [1077.1s] Oh, okay. [1078.0s] I didn't know that Auntie Nina worked in a place [1080.2s] that had so much food. [1081.6s] You guys are the coolest. [1083.6s] Well. [1085.2s] I wanna work here when I'm older. [1087.9s] My mouth is full of food. [1092.4s] It is quite good. [1094.3s] Okay, well, we'll just go down and reset the alarm [1098.5s] on your door there, no problem. [1100.8s] And be on our way. [1104.3s] Yeah, that's weird. [1105.8s] Did you go into your office down at the end there? [1108.4s] Leonard goes and heads down to check the door. [1110.5s] I nod my head with the food in my mouth. [1114.5s] Auntie Nina said that it was unlocked [1117.2s] and then she said something about [1119.1s] incompetent ass hats not locking up [1123.0s] and then I, was I not supposed to say that? [1126.6s] Make a, make an intimidation role, Alydin. [1133.2s] Could be supported with assistance [1136.2s] by Kyle being Nina here, so with advantage. [1140.9s] Fucking need advantage. [1142.7s] God damn it, 12? [1144.7s] Sure. [1146.2s] Yeah, he looks to Nina who's stuffing their face. [1150.3s] Do you give like a look to support this, Kyle? [1153.3s] Yeah, big time. [1154.6s] Okay, cool. [1155.7s] He's like pointing like. [1157.4s] The eyebrow is up. [1158.6s] Okay, we'll go make sure that everything's reset [1161.7s] and you just have a great night, everybody. [1165.3s] Eat up. [1166.7s] Not necessary, no. [1167.8s] No, don't reset, okay. [1170.6s] Okay, well we'll just go deactivate [1173.7s] and then leave it and you can reset it on your way out. [1176.4s] Appreciate it. [1177.2s] Thank you, darling. [1178.0s] He goes down to check on Leonard [1179.0s] and then after a brief moment, [1180.3s] the two of them come back and say, [1181.6s] all right, have a good night. [1182.5s] We'll see you on your way out. [1183.6s] Bye, misters. [1184.6s] As you hear their footsteps getting farther [1186.8s] in the distance, [1188.2s] you can go back down to the office if you would like [1190.8s] or what you thought was the office anyways. [1193.9s] Yeah. [1194.7s] You go back down there and now when you look in, [1197.0s] the room has Gwenda Laveer's desk inside of it. [1199.8s] There is a chair and a small desk [1202.6s] and Bizard, you get the desk, [1207.2s] which is odd because right now you would probably [1210.5s] be the one to do this for Nina [1212.4s] and it's not coming to mind [1215.4s] but you have the feeling some enchantment [1217.1s] or illusion was placed upon the room. [1219.8s] Huh, that's very odd. [1223.5s] We'll be right back. [1227.5s] It's the middle. [1229.5s] Welcome to the middle of this season finale, [1232.8s] season three finale. [1234.8s] It's all coming to an end. [1235.8s] Should we sing old Lang Syne or something? [1237.9s] Yeah, I feel like today there's a very in the air, [1241.2s] like everything's wrapping up. [1243.6s] Should, oh, no, no. [1246.9s] Not really. [1247.8s] No, it doesn't. [1248.6s] It's not really how, spoiler alert, [1251.7s] we're coming back with these characters next season. [1254.3s] So cat's out of the bag. [1256.8s] But yeah, this is, I love this episode. [1260.8s] It's very silly. [1262.5s] It's a nice end to the season. [1266.3s] I mean, the whole season has been great. [1267.8s] You know, we made it just so we could introduce [1270.2s] the characters and the world and the friends [1272.2s] and all that sort of stuff. [1274.0s] But going out on this little caper is wonderful. [1277.9s] And then when you keep listening, [1279.3s] cause that's what you're gonna do, [1280.5s] you're gonna come back and be like- [1282.2s] More gonna happen. [1283.1s] More's gonna happen next season. [1285.4s] More's gonna happen, yeah. [1287.7s] We're picking up basically right where we leave off. [1290.4s] So there won't be any time jumps, [1294.2s] any time streams, any move forward 10 years, [1298.7s] any of that bullshit that I've ever pulled in the past. [1300.5s] This is being recorded, Russ, so thank you. [1305.8s] So we are not releasing regular episodes [1309.6s] through the summer, but there is gonna be [1313.0s] some little, some little bite size, [1315.7s] little bits coming out, some little snacks. [1318.0s] Yeah, so we're still figuring those out, [1320.9s] but yeah, little just NPC interactions around the town, [1325.9s] which will be set before the events of this episode. [1332.1s] Yes. [1333.0s] Yeah, so we'll get to know some of the other people [1335.0s] in the town, which hopefully we get to see more of [1337.6s] in the coming season. [1338.7s] Yeah, so that's very exciting. [1341.8s] If that's still not enough, which I get it. [1344.9s] It probably won't be. [1346.3s] You can join us on Patreon, [1349.5s] and there is now five whole seasons. [1354.4s] Five whole seasons, yeah, we just recorded [1356.7s] the opening of the sixth season, [1358.4s] so that'll be coming out here, [1360.0s] the first one will be coming out shortly, [1361.2s] but yeah, five whole seasons of an entire other show. [1364.7s] A totally different show that Tom DMs, [1367.3s] and it's mostly just like off the rails all the time. [1371.4s] And it's a blast. [1373.5s] Discord, even if you're not a patron, [1376.6s] you should come on our Discord, it's very nice. [1378.4s] Everyone's lovely if you care about, I don't know, [1382.4s] books, animals, plants, game playing, music. [1388.2s] I mean, basically anything you like, [1389.8s] there's a channel for it, [1390.8s] and just the nicest folks around are in there. [1393.1s] And they all share in the love of everything [1394.7s] that everybody shares, so it's just beautiful. [1397.4s] It is very beautiful. [1398.7s] And also when you are a patron, [1400.4s] so you get community, you get episodes, [1403.1s] all of this while we're taking a little break, [1405.7s] you also get an episode dedicated to you, [1407.9s] like today's patron, Pivowin. [1412.7s] Hey. Thanks, Pivowin. [1414.5s] Thanks, Pivowin. [1415.3s] There's only two of us here, [1416.3s] so we'll try and we'll make it. [1418.3s] Yeah. [1419.3s] Brr brr brr brr brr brr. [1420.9s] Yeah. [1421.8s] Yeah. [1422.6s] We'll have everybody to scream. [1423.9s] Thank you so much for being with us for a while. [1427.8s] Yes. [1428.6s] Pivowin's been around for quite some time. [1431.0s] 2022. [1433.3s] Oh my goodness. [1434.7s] That's like a million years in 2020 times. [1437.7s] That's right. [1438.5s] Yeah. [1439.4s] But thank you for being here. [1440.2s] Thank you for being here [1441.2s] on this final season three episode. [1444.6s] It's all yours. [1445.7s] And now, after you've joined Patreon, [1449.8s] because you're doing it right now, [1450.7s] I can see you. Just do it right now. [1451.5s] You're already, you've got your phone nearby. [1453.5s] Just go ahead. Seven day free trial. [1454.9s] You can go just give it a taste. [1456.4s] No commitment there. [1458.8s] Come join us over there. [1460.6s] We'll get you back to this episode [1462.4s] and we'll see you for some mini episodes [1464.4s] coming up very soon, in a couple, [1467.9s] I don't know how time works. [1468.8s] They're coming up very soon. [1470.0s] Soon. [1470.9s] Soon. [1471.7s] Okay, bye everybody. [1472.5s] Bye. [1477.1s] That's very odd. [1480.0s] Who did this? [1483.8s] Who did this? [1486.0s] Okay. [1488.4s] Well, other magic users seem to be abound [1492.8s] because I didn't set this up. [1496.5s] So that was like a magic trick. [1497.9s] It just looked like it was empty, [1499.2s] but it's not empty. [1501.6s] Yeah, no, it's 100% not empty. [1504.4s] I didn't do this. [1506.5s] I mean, you know, the arcane locks. [1510.7s] I should have thought about that, but. [1516.4s] So what do we do now? [1519.4s] I mean. [1520.5s] Well, it's tripped now, right? [1522.1s] It is like a trap, but now it's tripped [1524.0s] so we can go in now. [1525.7s] But like the tripped trap is already tripped. [1528.4s] What if there's another trap [1529.4s] waiting to be tripped inside? [1531.6s] Alydin is just sitting there like [1533.8s] eyes going back and forth between all of them [1536.1s] and being like, I don't know what the hell is going on. [1538.9s] I say we just keep tripping the traps. [1541.4s] Well, they already know we're here, right? [1543.2s] So like. [1544.3s] They already know we're here. [1546.1s] It'd be super weird if you brought your niece [1548.0s] on a tour and you didn't bring her to your office. [1551.0s] That would be weird. [1552.5s] Auntie Nina. That's true. [1554.2s] All right, yeah, let's do it. [1555.9s] Plus it makes me think there's something good in here [1558.4s] because why would she do that if there was nothing? [1561.6s] If it's just an administrative office, [1565.0s] why would you need a trick? [1566.6s] Kavlarne, do you have a super important job [1569.4s] where you need to have some magic on your door? [1573.4s] Absolutely not. [1577.1s] It definitely means there's something to hide [1580.0s] rather than something to keep secure. [1582.6s] All right, I'll show you that cabinet. [1584.7s] We may be getting there. [1586.4s] You go into this first office area [1589.1s] and make your way to the door, Kavlarne. [1591.1s] You reach for the handle and it is unlocked [1595.4s] and swings open. [1597.9s] See, that's the first door I was expecting. [1602.7s] It's the door within the door. [1604.6s] Why can't we? [1606.1s] Oh, well. [1607.0s] Can't even barely open this. [1607.8s] You'll see. [1608.9s] Is it another magic thing? [1610.2s] You kind of just have to kind of scooch on through. [1612.7s] Okay, I'm not really built for scooching, but okay. [1617.4s] Everybody scooches in, I guess. [1621.8s] Who goes first, Kavlarne? [1623.4s] Sure, yeah. [1624.2s] Kavlarne. [1625.1s] Nina will follow. [1625.9s] Kavlarne scooches in followed by Bazaar Nina [1629.0s] and Kavlarne, you are climbing up onto the desk [1632.2s] to make room and Bonwyn, you and Alydin, [1634.8s] as you enter, you see that this room, [1637.4s] the majority of it is filled with a massive desk, [1640.4s] hence the lack of ability to open the door [1643.1s] and everybody just kind of scooching in around you. [1646.0s] Okay, how does she work like this? [1648.5s] I don't know, but apparently she's great at her job. [1651.1s] You can throw chickens across this desk. [1653.6s] You really could. [1654.6s] Absolutely. [1655.4s] Very true. [1657.3s] Bonwyn, it's that one right there [1659.3s] and the two bottom drawers on it [1661.5s] are the ones with the locks on it. [1663.2s] Okay. [1665.0s] I assume now I have my hands in the air [1667.8s] and I'm scooching around the side to fit. [1672.8s] Thank goodness Kav just climbed right up on the desk, [1675.4s] so he's not in the way anymore. [1677.0s] Eliminate that problem. [1679.1s] Yeah, because assuming the filing cabinet [1681.2s] is like the opposite, like kitty corner, [1684.5s] diagonally across from the door we just came in. [1687.3s] On the opposite wall there, [1688.6s] so you would have to go to the other side, but yeah. [1691.0s] No checks necessary to get around. [1693.6s] You can get to the cabinet. [1697.0s] So these ones aren't locked, these top ones, they're? [1699.8s] Yeah, the top three, they just have like [1702.2s] personnel files and that sort of thing in it. [1704.3s] Did you read any? [1705.4s] I mean, I may be dipped into Oak's fun fact [1708.8s] because mom is barred from City Hall. [1711.7s] Oh my God, I'm so not surprised [1714.1s] she was banned from our high school too. [1716.3s] No. [1719.2s] Oak, some things never change. [1721.6s] Next time we do boys night, I'm getting the full story. [1724.9s] Oh my goodness, she's a lovely woman, [1727.0s] but oh boy, does love her son. [1731.4s] Does really love her son. [1733.8s] Okay, I am going to try to open [1736.4s] the second from the bottom drawer. [1738.6s] Okay. [1739.4s] I pull out my thieves tools [1740.5s] and I'm about to just like dig in there [1742.6s] and then I think, [1745.2s] well, maybe this is better. [1748.3s] Investigation. [1749.1s] Oh, Nat 20 plus four. [1751.8s] Oh shit, what's up? [1753.9s] Fuck it, I know the model and serial number [1756.1s] of this filing cabinet. [1758.3s] So with a Nat 20, I'll give you both locks. [1761.2s] The top one, you are examining it [1763.7s] and there is a small hole, [1767.7s] which to you, having done a lot of metal work [1770.7s] and that sort of thing, [1771.6s] have worked with locks on your own projects. [1775.4s] There's a small hole which doesn't seem [1777.8s] to be connected or important [1780.5s] to the actual locking mechanism. [1782.8s] And on the bottom one, [1784.9s] there is like, [1787.4s] there's a very subtle vibration [1791.9s] coming from the actual lock itself. [1794.5s] Like not as you're approaching it, [1796.7s] you don't really sense it [1797.9s] and as you're kind of fumbling around [1800.4s] with your tools, you don't really sense it, [1801.6s] but it's once you kind of stop [1803.1s] and take a moment, [1804.0s] like there's just a slight hum sound [1807.0s] that's coming from it. [1810.2s] Okay, this doesn't make any sense, [1811.4s] but this is what I want to try to do. [1814.0s] Especially with that bottom one that's buzzing, [1816.2s] is from my pouch, pull out a magnet [1820.2s] and like run the magnet over it [1822.2s] and see if that, [1823.3s] I'm trying to decouse it. [1826.8s] Sure. [1827.6s] It's like what I'm, [1828.5s] that's what Carla's thinking, [1830.3s] but like see if I can disrupt the flow [1833.2s] of whatever is vibrating. [1834.8s] Sure, yeah. [1836.2s] Cause I don't know how magic works. [1837.4s] No, you don't. [1838.2s] So you put the, [1839.6s] so you have a magnet on your person, [1841.5s] you are, you run it past. [1844.7s] Like there's a slight pull as you, [1848.0s] as it moves past, [1849.8s] but then you see, [1851.6s] and bizarre as you're kind of stepping in, [1855.6s] as you're seeing kind of, [1856.8s] there's something funky happening here. [1858.3s] You see this electric shock [1859.9s] that shoots out of the lower lock towards the magnet, [1863.2s] which gives you Bonwyn, [1865.9s] more than a static shock, [1867.6s] it causes you to drop the magnet on the floor. [1870.6s] Kind of recoil. [1872.1s] Ouch. [1873.5s] Ooh. [1874.6s] What do you, [1875.5s] do you know what's causing that? [1877.3s] Ooh, hard to say without seeing the inside of it, [1881.0s] but some form of, [1883.6s] some form of enchantment placed upon it. [1887.0s] So I don't, [1889.1s] don't have a way to dispel this though. [1891.6s] Okay. [1892.4s] Well, related question. [1894.8s] The one above, [1895.6s] see this little hole? [1896.6s] What's that about do you think? [1898.1s] Is it gonna shoot gas in my face [1899.5s] or an arrow or something? [1902.9s] Could be, [1903.7s] or possibly maybe it's the actual keyhole [1907.2s] and the keyhole is a ruse. [1910.3s] And just cause I already had the magnet, [1911.7s] I'm also just gonna magnet the top, [1914.0s] cause why not? [1914.8s] Yeah, it's, [1916.1s] see if that does anything. [1916.9s] Magnet the top one, [1917.8s] it sticks as you would presume [1920.1s] it would stick to a metal lock. [1922.4s] I'm gonna search under desk [1923.4s] for something that might be the exact diameter [1926.2s] of that hole. [1927.4s] Like maybe something very inconspicuous [1929.9s] that would be on a desk that, [1932.3s] once you look at it, [1933.2s] you're like, okay, let's go. [1934.3s] Sure, make an investigation roll please. [1937.7s] Sick. [1938.5s] That's a 14. [1939.7s] Okay. [1940.5s] Can I also crawl under the desk [1942.2s] and investigate too? [1943.4s] Sure, you roll a separate investigation. [1946.2s] So searching around on the top of the desk. [1953.0s] Searching around to the top of the desk, [1954.4s] there's like stacks of papers that you see, [1957.5s] there's a big notepad in the center [1960.1s] that doesn't have anything really [1962.2s] of any importance mentioned in it. [1964.4s] You pull open the center drawer [1968.1s] and there's a series of pencils and quills. [1971.2s] You don't see anything that looks like, [1975.2s] like she's got hair pins, [1977.6s] there are thumb tacks, [1979.1s] there are push pins, [1981.0s] like a sewing needle. [1983.3s] So a couple things that would, [1985.3s] that could fit in there, [1986.9s] but nothing that looks like a locking mechanism device. [1992.0s] Well, going back to the other idea [1993.4s] of it being some kind of gas emitter, [1997.1s] is there, you know, [1998.4s] and I look around for, [1999.6s] since it's a windowless room, [2001.3s] I'm gonna look for a candle. [2003.1s] Yes, so there are two sconces on the wall, [2007.1s] both that have candles set in them [2009.5s] that are half burned down at this point. [2011.6s] I'm gonna light one real quick, [2013.2s] get some like, you know, [2014.5s] semi-melted wax, ball it up, [2017.2s] and shove it in that hole. [2018.4s] Okay. [2020.2s] So you do that, [2021.4s] stuff that little hole with wax. [2024.8s] Okay, now I'll try and open it. [2026.3s] Okay, a sleight of hand, please. [2030.2s] 14. [2031.1s] You get to work and same as the door, [2033.0s] you feel the locking mechanism catch, [2035.0s] and as it catches, [2036.4s] you feel something else inside the lock catch. [2042.4s] Give me a dexterity saving throw. [2045.5s] Oh, nat 20 again. [2047.6s] Okay. [2049.3s] So be it- [2050.4s] Plus six, 26. [2052.5s] Be it the, that's very good. [2055.7s] So be it your attention is heightened a little bit [2058.7s] after being shocked, [2060.0s] plus the addition of the wax, [2063.3s] you pull your hands back as that happens, [2065.8s] and this needle shoots out of that little hole, [2068.7s] slow at first as it works through the wax, [2071.2s] and then propels itself through the wax [2073.6s] that Bazaar has placed there. [2075.7s] But I get out of the way in time. [2077.6s] Yeah, you do. [2078.4s] You are fine, yeah. [2079.2s] Sweet. [2080.8s] Then does the drawer open? [2082.2s] Then, yeah, you sensed that it unlocked, [2084.5s] so now if you so desire, [2086.5s] you could open the mechanism and pull the drawer open. [2091.2s] Well, a flying needle is rude. [2093.4s] How does she open her own drawer? [2096.1s] That's a great question. [2097.7s] The key itself would keep the needle [2099.3s] from coming out, darling. [2100.8s] Oh, oh, sure, of course. [2102.3s] That's what she would say. [2104.0s] I'm gonna pull open the drawer. [2105.0s] Okay, drawer slides open, [2107.0s] and everybody's kinda crowded around Bonwyn. [2110.5s] Inside is, I mean, I don't know how exciting [2115.4s] you want me to make the description of books are, [2117.6s] but there are several ledgers inside of this. [2120.6s] You know what, let Kavlaran describe [2123.4s] how excited he is to see these books, right? [2127.5s] Because I look in, Alydin is just like, [2129.7s] yeah, those are books. [2132.4s] I bet Kavlaran has a different feeling. [2134.9s] Kavlaran has never been so happy [2137.1s] as to see nondescript, plain ledger-type books. [2143.4s] And that's exactly what they are. [2144.7s] There's nothing inherently special about these. [2149.2s] They're not a special color. [2150.4s] They're just plain beige, large ledger books. [2156.7s] Three of them stacked on top of each other [2159.0s] inside of this drawer. [2161.2s] Guys, I think we just found the good stuff. [2163.8s] Nice. The raw ones? [2165.6s] The raw ones, exactly. [2167.8s] Kav touches his nose. [2169.3s] So are you gonna grab them? [2172.1s] I mean, yeah, just gonna flip one open [2176.4s] and take a little look-see, Russ. [2178.0s] Pull it out and flip it open, [2179.8s] and there are extensive entries on money, [2184.9s] tax dollars, investments, payments [2189.2s] from different organizations, [2191.4s] all coming in to and out of the mayoral office. [2196.0s] Is there like a tab system [2198.1s] and one might say like fraud on it? [2200.3s] It doesn't say- [2201.2s] Some people don't look for the obvious. [2202.4s] Extortion. [2203.2s] Obvious, okay. [2204.1s] It has- [2205.7s] Misappropriated funds. [2207.1s] It has single letter tabs down the side, [2210.2s] and they happen to be F-R-A-U-D [2213.8s] as the different sections. [2215.4s] So I mean, in a sense, that's what it is. [2218.6s] Perhaps it was an oversight. [2220.0s] Perhaps they knew exactly what they were doing. [2222.2s] It's too early to tell. [2223.0s] Subconsciously. [2223.8s] Yeah, it's too. [2224.7s] Yeah. [2225.5s] But yes, it appears to you [2227.6s] that these books are what you have been looking for. [2231.2s] Okay, this should be, [2232.7s] I mean, I'm gonna have to take a closer look at it, [2234.7s] but this should be everything we need. [2236.6s] Amazing. [2238.0s] I wanna pull out that drawer. [2241.8s] Okay. [2242.6s] To see if I can get to the one behind. [2244.4s] Okay. [2246.2s] Circumventing whatever the thing is on it. [2249.2s] Okay, so you pull out the drawer, [2250.8s] and before it, [2254.0s] I'm a jackass. [2254.8s] We all die. [2255.8s] Before it reaches the end [2257.8s] to where you'd be able to, [2258.6s] like, k-k-k-k, the drawer, [2260.4s] it hits the desk behind you. [2262.0s] You hit the desk, [2262.9s] and there's no room to pull it completely out. [2265.5s] Of course. [2268.4s] Bonwyn, it might be good to look [2269.9s] if there's a way to reset that needle, [2272.2s] just so we can get this back into the- [2275.3s] You're so right. [2276.2s] Yeah, great, great thought. [2278.0s] Can somebody, can you, [2279.6s] I can't even reach that. [2280.8s] It's, like, over on the other side of the, [2282.4s] can you, you've got long- [2283.3s] I got it, don't worry. [2284.1s] I'll climb over the desk. [2285.0s] Don't worry about it. [2285.8s] Yeah, you've got good reach [2286.6s] with those arms of yours. [2287.5s] Do you notice any other pinholes? [2289.2s] Like, she set it off by accident, [2291.2s] and there's just, like, [2292.0s] the wall is just filled with- [2294.3s] Poor Gwen Devere. [2296.3s] Just, like, went to go grab something, [2298.1s] so I'm just like, ah! [2299.1s] One thing that was to not describe Gwen Devere [2303.0s] was her eye patch. [2304.2s] That's true, yeah. [2305.9s] Yeah, right? [2306.8s] Classic Gwen Devere. [2310.7s] Her eye patch and her single deflated [2312.4s] breast implant. [2313.2s] Gwen Devere, that, yeah. [2314.0s] So, yeah, I'm gonna see if I can just, like, [2316.3s] put it back in and reset it and close it. [2319.4s] Let's make one more sleight of hand check. [2326.6s] Nah, 25. [2327.7s] Okay. [2328.6s] My god, your rolls are good. [2329.9s] I have not done a really good roll tonight. [2332.2s] I have not done a really good roll tonight. [2333.0s] I have not done a really good roll tonight. [2333.8s] Killing it. [2334.7s] Yeah, you are, you're able to reset the, [2337.1s] you're able to reset the needle and the lock itself [2340.8s] and secure it so that it appears as if [2345.3s] you had just walked in there. [2348.0s] I assume you're getting up and, [2349.5s] everybody's leaving now? [2350.8s] We just, I just- [2351.7s] I really wanna try and open that other drawer, [2354.4s] but- I was just gonna say. [2356.0s] But we got what we came for. [2358.3s] It may be good to take our own note [2360.8s] and not be greedy like the government [2363.2s] they're trying to expose. [2365.4s] Touché. [2366.2s] Yeah. [2367.1s] Buzzkill. [2368.1s] I'm- [2368.9s] Party pooper. [2369.8s] Curious as all get out, don't get me wrong. [2372.1s] Well, next time we break into City Hall, [2374.9s] we'll check in- [2375.8s] When will we have this opportunity again? [2377.9s] Next time we won't be breaking in, I hope. [2380.9s] Alydin just looks confused. [2383.4s] Everybody make an investigation roll [2387.3s] as you are resetting the room. [2389.2s] This is not to necessarily find things, [2391.5s] but to make sure it looks like you, [2394.7s] it was when you came in. [2396.5s] We're never there. [2397.3s] God, fuck me. [2399.0s] 22. [2399.8s] Rolled a seven, got a plus four, 11. [2403.7s] Okay. [2404.8s] All in all, everything looks as it was [2407.2s] when you came in. [2409.2s] Bonwyn, as you are thinking about [2411.5s] going for that second lock again [2413.4s] with a different way, [2414.8s] you notice that there's a little bit of wax [2416.7s] that you missed on the first cleanup [2418.5s] and you managed to take that with you. [2421.2s] But everybody else, everything looks fine. [2423.7s] You've, from filtering over the desk, [2426.7s] you've put all the papers back [2427.9s] to where you think they were. [2429.1s] Everything appears to be in good order. [2432.2s] I've scrubbed off the boot print off the desk. [2435.1s] Yeah. [2435.9s] Everything looks as it was when you came in. [2438.6s] You reset the doors as you leave. [2441.0s] You, I guess you probably wouldn't be the ones [2445.0s] to reset the room. [2446.0s] You could delegate that to the security guards [2448.5s] on the way out. [2449.8s] We see you leave the office and walk past the kitchen [2453.6s] and then, Alydin, you double back [2455.4s] to grab a whole bunch of food [2456.8s] and pile it in your bucket. [2458.4s] Oh yeah, that bucket's full. [2460.4s] Okay. [2461.4s] And pockets. [2462.4s] You make your way back out the front [2464.2s] and wave to the security guards who say, [2466.4s] oh, tour all over? [2469.3s] Do you think you're gonna be making it [2470.8s] into City Hall when you grow up? [2472.6s] You know what? [2473.4s] I learned so much about how the government runs [2476.7s] and how good it is to be on top. [2479.8s] It really is, isn't it? [2481.5s] Yeah, that's the best place to be. [2483.0s] Yeah, yeah. [2484.2s] Wow. [2485.0s] Well, smart kids these days. [2487.2s] Who needs school, right? [2489.0s] Right? [2489.9s] Yeah. [2490.7s] Exactly, Darius. [2492.5s] Well, you all have a good night. [2493.5s] We'll go reset your office. [2494.8s] No problem. [2495.6s] Have a good night, everybody. [2497.2s] Give them thank yous, bows, and head on our way. [2500.1s] I almost said, love you, bye. [2501.9s] Cause that was, love you, bye. [2503.7s] I mean, maybe you would say that to Leonard. [2505.5s] Maybe. [2506.8s] Quick footsteps now back down to City Hall. [2509.5s] Not trying to be conspicuous, [2510.7s] but moving fast just in case. [2513.7s] And make your way back down to the fountain [2515.6s] where you are, I guess this is the point [2518.5s] where you can go your separate ways, [2520.2s] but a little check in before you do that. [2524.0s] All right, so I've got what I need. [2526.2s] I'm gonna have to go back to Kingstown [2528.7s] and show this to my bosses. [2532.3s] But it shouldn't be long and I'll probably be back, [2535.8s] I don't know, three or four or five days. [2537.1s] It would be best to get out of town [2538.4s] with those while you can. [2539.6s] Absolutely. [2540.4s] Should we like take copies or something? [2544.6s] Why I'm just wondering, cause you know, [2547.0s] if I've learned anything, [2548.9s] it's that you can't trust the people in power. [2552.7s] And what if they assassinate Kavlaran I. [2558.8s] I mean, I hope not. [2560.4s] Kavlaran how long would it take you [2561.9s] to transcribe one of these books into your own? [2568.1s] You know what, I could get one done tonight for sure. [2571.5s] Would that hold up though? [2574.0s] Oh no, I would take the originals with me [2576.8s] and I'd leave you the copy, just so there was something. [2581.2s] They're gonna need to see these ones. [2583.3s] No point in having a copy if you've got the original [2585.6s] as you're taking it where it needs to go. [2587.7s] What if they're taking money from like Kinney and stuff? [2592.6s] You guys know Kinney, right? [2594.2s] From what I saw, it looks like they're taking money [2596.3s] from everyone. [2597.1s] Yeah, but like, what if we were able to look at it all [2601.8s] and then, you know, and then we know some stuff [2608.5s] because it's important to know stuff. [2611.6s] You know when you know something about somebody [2614.5s] and they don't want anybody else to know that thing, [2618.2s] right? [2619.0s] So they might be more likely to do the thing [2622.8s] that you want them to do or something like that [2625.7s] that I heard other people say that I have never done. [2628.9s] I feel like guys, I don't know the whole plan. [2632.5s] Well, cause we're just making it up as we go. [2634.8s] Yeah. [2635.6s] What? [2636.5s] I mean, now we maybe have proof of the corruption. [2639.4s] Perfect. [2640.7s] Now we get proof of the corruption to the authorities. [2643.8s] What if they take it and they don't do anything? [2646.4s] Then we just gave them all of our stuff. [2648.8s] They'll do something. [2650.4s] They can't let this sort of thing, [2653.7s] now that it's going to be public, [2655.4s] like word will get out. [2658.9s] So they will have to react. [2660.4s] Who are the easiest people to fleece? [2662.9s] The people who wouldn't notice something missing. [2666.1s] And who is that? [2668.1s] Mobility. [2669.1s] The nobles. [2670.0s] The nobles. [2671.2s] Let's see if they've been fleecing the nobles [2673.7s] for anything and then if we can get even, [2676.4s] I mean, cause whether they notice it or not, [2678.3s] they do care about their money. [2680.8s] And if he loses the nobles, [2683.4s] then that in and of itself could be, [2686.2s] you know, a good stepping stone. [2688.8s] Now, listen, [2691.2s] I don't know much, [2692.8s] but what I do know is that [2694.4s] you can't trust people with money. [2696.6s] Wait, did you mean that you can't trust people [2699.7s] as in giving them money, [2700.6s] as in I shouldn't give you money anymore, [2702.0s] or you mean people who- [2702.9s] Or the ones who already have money. [2703.7s] No, you can't keep giving me money. [2707.0s] No, that's not what I meant at all. [2708.7s] But I mean like, those guys across the river, [2711.9s] they know that there are kids like me down here. [2719.0s] And just cause you know about something [2721.4s] doesn't mean you're gonna do anything about it. [2723.6s] So I don't know if, [2726.5s] I hope Kavlarin that you're right, [2729.2s] but how do you know that once you give this over [2731.8s] and that's all you got, [2733.4s] that they're gonna do the thing [2734.6s] you hope they're gonna do? [2736.4s] So are you saying we should [2738.4s] just make the information public? [2740.9s] Maybe? [2741.9s] And put them on blast? [2743.8s] Ooh. [2745.4s] Tell the town criers? [2746.8s] I don't know, [2747.7s] but I think that if you were to just tell [2750.0s] some rich people that other rich people [2752.1s] are being jerks, [2753.1s] they'll be like, [2754.7s] okay. [2756.3s] Okay. [2757.2s] And maybe that makes me a cynical 14 year old. [2760.8s] And maybe I'm jaded. [2763.8s] I don't think you're wrong. [2765.0s] Maybe an aggressive poster campaign [2766.9s] with some very pertinent information on it [2770.5s] would go a long way. [2772.4s] We could make posters. [2773.3s] I've got plenty of parchment back at my shop. [2778.0s] I can summon an extra set of hands [2780.6s] to help us kind of scribe things down [2783.3s] if we want to go that route. [2785.0s] That's very forward. [2788.2s] How about this? [2790.2s] Why don't we just sleep on it? [2792.0s] We've got the books. [2792.9s] Cav, maybe if you don't mind, [2794.5s] go look through them. [2795.9s] Get sort of a general sense of [2798.0s] just how bad it is. [2800.4s] And then we can meet up tomorrow morning [2804.4s] and figure out our plan. [2805.6s] To take down the government. [2808.0s] To take down the government. [2809.6s] That's right, Alydin. [2811.0s] Kavlarne with books in hand going to review, [2813.4s] everybody going to just take the night, [2815.9s] rest, [2816.7s] and come up with a plan on the next morning. [2819.8s] Everybody goes back to their own homes. [2823.0s] We follow Bonwyn back to Everbane's [2825.2s] and you open the door and head in for the night, [2829.3s] closing and locking it behind you. [2831.1s] And there's a few things that Thane hasn't done [2833.2s] because they're your usual activities. [2837.1s] You want to walk us through that a little bit here? [2839.4s] I think that Thane probably goes around [2842.4s] and like, you know, banks all the fires and stuff, [2845.6s] but I just in an excess of caution [2850.0s] after he goes, so he doesn't know. [2852.2s] Just go and double check. [2853.5s] So I just kind of go around [2855.5s] and make sure like everything is safe. [2857.3s] Like this, I live here and there's a lot of fire. [2860.2s] So just want to be extra, extra careful. [2864.3s] Clean up, put away all the tools. [2866.4s] You know, I want a nice, easy morning when I start. [2871.3s] So I'm just kind of like futzing around, you know, [2874.6s] getting everything tidy and sorted out and yeah. [2879.2s] As you finish all these preparations [2882.7s] for what could happen, [2886.3s] you start making your way back upstairs. [2888.5s] And as you hit the top of the stairs, [2891.5s] you hear that same knocking sound [2894.5s] you heard the night before [2896.5s] coming from back down in the shop. [2901.1s] I'm going to come back down the stairs. [2903.4s] On the way, I'm going to grab something as a weapon. [2907.1s] And this is a place where we make weapons. [2909.1s] So you'd think I would grab something good, [2912.1s] but I don't. [2912.9s] Should I grab a butter knife? [2914.8s] Yeah, I just grab like whatever is the closest thing [2917.5s] as I'm like coming down the stairs. [2919.3s] She's like a cocaine-er. [2921.2s] Yeah, exactly. [2922.4s] Like something like that. [2924.2s] On it are the knife wings. [2925.5s] You take those off, cocaine only. [2928.8s] Like a broom handle or something. [2930.6s] You know, something that would just be sitting around [2932.9s] that I grab. [2935.3s] And I kind of go over cautiously [2938.1s] just to listen [2941.8s] and see, yeah, more closely what it sounds like. [2944.8s] You grab that and you come back down. [2946.3s] And as you move back down the stairs, [2948.5s] as quiet as you're trying to be, [2950.2s] the knocking stops until you get down to the bottom [2955.0s] and stop and listen. [2957.8s] And right at the spot where the desk has been pushed [2962.7s] and everything has been piled on top, [2966.0s] there's that same knocking [2968.3s] that's getting heavier. [2969.3s] She yells, not today, Satan, and goes back to bed. [2971.8s] Not today, Satan. [2975.6s] I think I feel pretty safe [2979.3s] because there's all that stuff on top of it, right? [2982.6s] So I'm not gonna start moving that stuff or anything. [2984.6s] I don't feel that safe. [2986.3s] But I could at least get a little nearer [2989.0s] and say, what do you want? [2992.6s] And feeling pretty dumb [2993.6s] because I think it's probably some kind of wild creature [2996.1s] that's not gonna answer me. [2998.1s] As you say that, the sound stops [3001.5s] and it's eerily silent in your shop. [3007.6s] And it is dark, so I'm just standing there. [3009.2s] My eyes are so wide [3010.4s] because you know when you're trying to hear in the dark [3012.1s] and for some reason you open your eyes really wide, [3014.3s] I'm like not moving. [3015.5s] You hear a long drawn out scratching sound [3020.5s] coming up from beneath the table, [3023.4s] which is followed by another bout of silence. [3027.6s] And then there's a huge thud coming up from it [3030.3s] that shakes everything on top of the table. [3033.5s] Run, bitch. [3037.4s] I feel like I'm over here watching a movie [3039.3s] being like, don't go down there. [3042.0s] Don't go in there. [3042.8s] Don't run out the stairs. [3044.2s] That's right, run out the front door. [3047.0s] Luckily I'm still dressed and everything. [3049.4s] I just went upstairs. [3050.9s] So I'm gonna stop, look at my hand [3053.4s] where I'm holding something useless, [3055.5s] throw it away, grab something that's actually a weapon [3058.9s] because again, there's like a million things laying around [3061.8s] and leave. [3063.2s] Like I'm going somewhere. [3065.2s] And honestly, I don't know if at this point [3066.8s] I even know where I'm going [3068.6s] because I know there's tunnels all around the town. [3070.9s] So I don't know where I'm gonna go to feel safe [3073.6s] because this is where I feel safe. [3076.0s] So maybe the guard house. [3078.0s] As you're looking at the broom, [3080.1s] the thudding starts up again [3082.5s] in intensity and repetitiveness. [3085.5s] As you're grabbing all these things [3087.6s] to rush out of the space and you've got a weapon [3090.1s] and you've got something to defend yourself, [3092.2s] you see that the anvil that's on top [3094.6s] is beginning to wobble from the strength of these hits [3097.7s] that are happening beneath the door. [3099.8s] We see you run out into the street [3102.2s] heading to the guard house. [3103.5s] As the door shuts, the thudding stops [3106.9s] and this anvil is rocking back and forth [3109.7s] until it tumbles to the ground. [3112.4s] Dumbgeons and Dragons season three, episode 25. [3208.6s] It's one of those things [3209.5s] where you have to shrink your bones. [3214.8s] And that's where we'll cut the cold open. [3216.2s] Horrified face on Alydin. [3218.3s] Terrible. [3219.2s] Gosh. [3220.0s] It's a little bone shrinking. [3220.8s] Don't worry about it. [3221.7s] Sorry, don't do it. [3222.5s] It's not worth it. [3223.3s] Yeah, it's part of the illusion, you know. [3225.3s] Like, it's an illusion, [3226.4s] but like your bones feel the illusion. [3228.5s] So, you know. [3230.2s] It's magic to everyone else. [3231.4s] It's just agony to you. [3233.2s] Yeah. [3234.1s] Nina. [3234.9s] Did we give Nina a last name? [3236.1s] Probably did. [3237.0s] Don't think so. [3237.8s] I don't remember. [3238.6s] Nienersen. [3239.5s] I don't recall. [3240.4s] Give me. [3241.2s] Niener, niener, niener. [3243.1s] That's what the kids called her at school. [3244.9s] And that's why she helped shut them down. [3246.8s] Yeah. [3247.7s] Yeah. [3248.5s] That's right.
