[0.0s] You're listening to Dumbgeons and Dragons and we'll start in just a moment. [10.6s] Kavlaran, you are sitting ever so patiently in a chair outside of Nina's office and you've been [18.7s] waiting here for quite some time for Nina to come back. Her receptionist is busy filling out [29.0s] paperwork at her desk and she looks over to you and says, I swear she told me she was going to be [35.0s] back in a moment, but that was several hours ago. Did you need a snack? Are you going to just? [44.9s] A snack would be pretty good. I do have to come clean about something though. [48.9s] I can't remember your name. I know I've been here all day and it's gotten past the point [54.9s] of where it's like too awkward to ask, but I just, I need, I need to own up. I need to tell [60.6s] you that. No, that's fine. I just, I've lost the plot on this one and I don't love the fact that [65.8s] that's what happened, but that's what happened. I just, I just thank you for your time. Defense [71.4s] rests. Well, thank you for admitting that and not just calling me. Hey, you like everybody [76.2s] else does. I'm Gwenn de la Veer. Gwenn de la Veer. You know what? I should have remembered [81.3s] that. That's my sister's name. Well, it is a very common, it was a very common name for about a year. [87.6s] Everybody was named Gwenn de la Veer. It just rolls off the tongue. It just has this sweetness [93.1s] to it. Ah, yes. But thank you for asking. I'm going to go get you a snack. I can go see what [99.0s] they have down in the kitchen there. Maybe there's some nice pastries. Somebody, I heard [103.4s] somebody maybe brought in some donuts. I'm going to go see about that. I mean, I do love a [107.0s] pastry. That would be delightful. And she rounds the corner and you hear like a little, oh, [113.6s] and then some whispers. She's got goose in the hall. She's going straight to HR. No donuts for [118.2s] you. Sorry. And then two pairs of quick footsteps going back down the hallway [125.0s] towards the kitchen. Nevermind no HR. This is like an office romance. Yeah. And Kav does [131.9s] hear this, but he's still getting over the fact that he actually like owned up to not knowing [137.8s] Gwenda la Veer's name and is like super proud of himself for like being an adult. So he doesn't [143.0s] really pay that much attention to it. Like he hears it, but doesn't click for him as to like [147.4s] what is it, what it is, say a moment of recognition. And then you go back to just [153.0s] staring at the wall on the other side of the room. I go back and I'm like, it's [157.5s] Gwenda la Veer, Gwenda la Veer. Got to remember Gwenda la Veer. [187.5s] Gwenda la Veer comes back into the room with a donut for you. And she says, I didn't know what [215.9s] your favorite was. So I brought a couple. This one's like, oh, you want both of them. [222.3s] Okay. Well, I mean, I don't have to have both of them, but like I don't really have a favorite. [226.8s] They're all kind of my favorite. I got a Crueller and I got just this Long John [234.4s] and it's got like this cream inside. I think they called it like an Eclair, something like [239.0s] that. Thought you take your pick or you have them both. I can go get some more and no [245.0s] problem. I saw Nina and she said she'd be here any moment now. [251.2s] You saw Nina? Yeah. She was passing by the kitchen, [255.2s] said she got swept away with a big meeting upstairs. And she'd be right down to see you. [265.1s] I'm going to go back to the kitchen, get myself a donut because I should have brought [268.5s] three. Foolish me. And she exits the room. Cav puts like one of the donuts on the desk [278.1s] and like completely just inhales the other one. And then like not even a full minute [284.2s] goes by and he like reaches back over for the second donut. After another few moments, [290.5s] Oak walks into the room. There you are. You've been gone all day. What are you doing? [295.3s] Well, I've been waiting for Nina, but apparently she had gone into her office earlier, [300.9s] but then never came out. But then Gwenda LaVere ran into her in the hallway. Is there like a [305.1s] second entrance to Nina's office that I don't know about? No. So then she probably wasn't [311.3s] here at all then. She probably wasn't here at all. She probably just gave you the slip. [316.7s] Gotcha. Gotcha. Yeah. Would you say that's like a characteristic of her personality, [321.0s] like deceitful? Well, I mean, avoiding people happens a lot. The deceit factor, I mean, [331.3s] I can't prove or deny if she has told me the truth when she is around in her office or not. [338.8s] I just assume she's telling me the truth. All right. I mean, yeah, like, you know, [343.5s] make someone prove you wrong, right? Yeah. Wait, what are you going to ask her? Like, [351.6s] why are you waiting for five hours? I mean, really, I just wanted to follow up on like the [357.8s] finances. But I think that's why she's avoiding me. So maybe just go back and look at the [365.4s] books. Is that a better follow the money, follow the paper trail? Sure. Yeah, we can [371.6s] follow the books. I mean, we've checked the books time and time again, and they look fine. [376.1s] I told you the books are perfect. I did them. I heard like a whisper of like a second set of [381.5s] books. A second set of books. One that perhaps that would be fraud. Kavlaran. That would be [389.9s] fraud. Yeah. And like probably a pretty good one. Wait, is that what you're here [397.4s] investigating? I mean, I'm investigating a lot of things, but absolutely that's part of it. [403.2s] You didn't tell me you were investigating fraud. Well, I mean, somebody walks by the [409.9s] office and looks in with just raises an eyebrow and keeps going. You're gonna have [414.5s] to keep it down a little bit. Sorry. Sorry. It's okay. It's okay. Yeah, there's there was like [420.7s] a few different things I was supposed to check out while I was here. That was just one of them. [428.0s] Okay, so if Nina is being deceitful to you, what makes you think she's even gonna tell you? [435.8s] Are you trying to catch her in a lie? Are you trying to? What's your game plan here? [441.8s] Well, I had a cousin that was really good at like reading people, you know, like those cold [447.0s] reads that like the charlatans do on innocent people. I had a cousin who like showed me how [455.1s] to do that a little bit and I thought I could get something from her just by being in the same [461.6s] rooms or asking her some questions, seeing the way she reacts, that sort of thing. Just take [465.8s] some mental notes of like, what's up with Nina? What's up with Nina? Well, [475.6s] I don't think she's gonna come back. No, it doesn't seem to be that way. Yeah, so [480.6s] we could continue to wait here. He has sat down beside you at this point, not on a chair, [487.2s] because there isn't another chair, but on like a little side table. He was just sitting up there [493.2s] across his legs. He's not just doing a weird wall squat beside him. No, he has to kind of [498.1s] hover because it's not going to be able to support his weight. So he's holding it, but [502.6s] just barely. So we could go and we can come back. We could get you. I mean, clearly [507.9s] you've got a little you've got a little cream on just like in your mustache there. [513.4s] Yeah. Clearly you had some donuts. I mean, some is a little presumptuous. Yeah, I had to. [520.9s] Yeah. If only there was something we could do to figure out this solution for you. I guess [525.0s] I'll just go back to my office and not do anything nefarious. I mean, do you need company? [529.4s] He gets up and he starts to leave. Well, I guess if you want to come, like, I don't know. [534.6s] I mean, sitting here has been you're the one doing the investigating waste of time. [539.5s] Is there any like storage rooms or anything where like old files are kept? Oh, yeah. Yeah, [545.7s] of course there is. I haven't shown you the storage closet downstairs. Yeah, come on with me. [550.6s] Yeah. So Kava totally has just like forgotten about the cabinet. And as he starts to follow [556.8s] Oak down the hallway, he sees like an identical looking cabinet behind Gwenda Levere's desk. [563.4s] And it like stops him dead in his tracks. Oh, what I just forgot Gwenda Levere said that Nina [572.2s] was coming back. So maybe I should just stay a little longer because like if she does come back, [577.8s] I'd hate to miss her. Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah. Do you want somebody to just join somebody to [582.2s] wait with you? Like I've finished all of our paperwork for the next three days. So I could [589.1s] just go home or I could stay and hang out. I mean, Mom's probably going to be expecting [593.9s] me soon. It's getting close to clock out time and she expects me five minutes later. [598.5s] So sure. Yeah, sure. Yeah. Well, OK. Yeah. You know what? Well, we'll catch up tomorrow [604.4s] since like all that since all that paperwork's already done. [608.3s] And I'll just wait here a little longer and then I'll probably call it a day as well. [612.5s] All right. Well, it's good seeing you. I guess I'll just I'll go lock up the office. [618.6s] I'll make sure all your stuff's ready to go in there. I'll put your lunch back in your bag. [624.6s] And yeah, I guess that's it for me. Have a good night. [630.2s] All right. Yeah, you too. I'll just. Yeah, I'll talk to you tomorrow. [633.2s] OK, bye now goes back to the one chair and like sits down and just [637.5s] waits a minute till everything's like calm and quiet and then goes and tries that door handle. [643.5s] The door handle is unlocked. It's a little it's got a little stick to it, but the door opens [651.8s] and then it bumps into the desk. Obviously. Yeah. Slip in and close [655.4s] the door behind me as best I can here without making too much of a racket. [660.2s] And beeline straight for that cabinet. Sure. And by beeline, you mean awkwardly [665.2s] move around the large desk inside this very time. I was thinking actually more of a direct [670.6s] like as the crow flies situation. So step onto a chair, onto the desk, off the desk. [677.6s] Yeah. Yeah. Love it. OK, great. Are there any windows in this office? [681.9s] I can't remember. No, there are not. [684.4s] There is a poster of a nice tropical beach set up on one of the walls, but no, no windows. [691.2s] Oh, I really hope there's an escape tunnel behind that poster. [694.4s] And a new frame. Yeah. [698.2s] Nina's been taking out one bit of drywall at a time. [702.4s] Yeah, you go and you you're examining the cabinet and the two lower drawers are locked. [709.5s] The top three, you're able to open them and file through them if you would like, [713.7s] but the bottom two are locked and secured. Quick look through the top three. [719.0s] Anything interesting in there at all? Mostly seems like personnel files and documents, [726.5s] incident reports, that sort of thing. Nothing, nothing out of the ordinary, [730.6s] just at a quick glance through them. Can I flip through Oak's personnel [733.8s] file real quick? Sure, absolutely. [735.2s] Just like I want to see like the one pager. [737.2s] It just says Oak, stellar employee, five stars, not likely to get a raise ever, [743.2s] overachiever and never pushes back, quite reliant on his mother. [748.7s] Also, mother barred from City Hall. I need to know what happened with that. [753.8s] I'll have to ask him next time we're out for boys night. [756.7s] Yeah, makes a little mental note to ask Oak about mother being barred from City Hall. [764.0s] And looks around. I would love to find like a key for these bottom drawers. [769.8s] Any role investigation, any likely hiding spots that you might leave a key? [776.4s] Let's see here. That is a 17, but my investigation is not great. [781.8s] So it's a 15 overall. OK, you move through all of the [787.2s] upper cabinets on this drawer. You move through all of the drawers [790.2s] in the desk, lift the papers. It does not appear that you can find a key [798.8s] that would fit this drawer. There are no keys in sight. [802.2s] So leading you to believe perhaps that if there were a key, it would be on Nina's person. [808.4s] Sure. I mean, do I just bust it open? [810.6s] I don't feel like that's a great approach, but like desperate times. [814.7s] No, it's not that desperate. I'm going to get out of the [817.1s] office before anybody comes back to find me there. [821.0s] OK, you climb back over and open the door and as you pull it shut behind you, [827.4s] you hear footsteps coming back down the hall and Gwenda LaVere comes around the corner just as the [832.9s] door latches. What do you do to act nonchAlydint as she comes around the corner? [839.4s] Actually, Cav just puts his hand up to his ear in the door and he's like, [845.1s] I thought I heard someone in there, but. [847.8s] Ah, you're still here. Hey. [850.6s] Hey, Gwenda LaVere. I was just, I thought I heard someone in there, but [854.5s] you said there was no any. Yeah, no, I don't know. [858.0s] No. OK, well, I guess I haven't seen Nina come down. [863.5s] She might have just forgot and just went home for the day. [867.4s] That sometimes happens. [868.9s] That does seem like something that might happen with her. [871.2s] Yeah, very, you know, out of sight, out of mind. [874.6s] Looking at the hook across the wall there, it seems she took her jacket. [878.7s] So I guess she had no intentions of coming back. [882.4s] That's unfortunate. I'm sorry that you've wasted your entire day here. [885.8s] Oh, that's totally fine. [887.4s] It's totally fine. Not the not the first day I've wasted here at City Hall. [892.1s] Well, you have a great night. [894.7s] Well, you too. [896.5s] She goes and sits at her desk and is just organizing the papers for the night. [900.1s] And as you round the corner and head back down to get your stuff that Oak [906.2s] has very neatly placed for you outside the door waiting for you. [911.0s] I grab my stuff and on my way to the Brewed Awakening. [916.8s] We'll be right back. [920.6s] It's the middle of the city. [923.3s] You know, I'm just getting a lot of welcome to the middle. [928.6s] I'm not looking up Safety City. [931.0s] No, we're we're doing the middle. [934.4s] We're talking about tiny cars on tiny streets driven by children. [938.7s] And what an awesome thing it is. [940.7s] Alydin would have just a kickass time. [943.3s] Alydin would be a nightmare. [946.2s] A hundred percent like just going nuts. [950.6s] So Safety City. [951.8s] Get your kids to check it out. [952.9s] Not a sponsor. [953.7s] Unless Safety City, you want to sponsor this Dumbgeons and Dragons podcast. [956.6s] Is that a brand? [957.9s] Are they branded tiny towns? [960.6s] I think so. [962.6s] I actually don't know. [963.7s] All right. [964.0s] If you want to give us a public service announcement that we can do for free, [967.6s] we will do it for you. [969.3s] We kind of just did. [970.2s] We kind of just did. [971.0s] That's right. [971.9s] But what we do have going on is this is the second to last episode of this season, [977.0s] which just to make sure you're aware, we're continuing with these characters. [981.7s] It's like we're in campaign two, season one. [985.5s] Whereas before it's like campaign one, season one and two, [988.6s] and then season three is campaign two. [990.5s] Like we should have not said this was season three. [993.0s] Yeah, no, we definitely hindsight. [994.8s] Maybe I'll tweak how it's presented in the whole thing. [998.3s] But you know, we'll deal with that later. [999.9s] But we're very excited because as we record this interlude, [1004.8s] we're starting recording the next season too later. [1009.1s] Well, look how far ahead we are, everybody. [1011.4s] We're not just scrambling to get things going like we usually do. [1014.8s] Killing it. [1016.3s] Loving it. [1018.2s] So summer's going to be a little bit of a break from regular episodes. [1021.9s] We are going to have some mini-sodes that we're getting ready to record as well [1026.9s] that we're going to just explore the city and the people in a... [1033.0s] Not going to say anything else because... [1035.1s] Don't put us in a box. [1036.3s] These can be whatever we want them to be. [1038.7s] Carla has a question. [1039.8s] Yep. [1040.2s] I don't. [1040.6s] My light turned off, so I was turning it on. [1043.7s] It was on a motion activator and I was... [1045.7s] Teacher Amy just went into teacher mode and that's that. [1049.5s] Hand up, have to call on it. [1050.5s] I see a hand up. [1052.9s] Oh, that's adorable. [1054.1s] Thank you for not shouting out, Carla. [1059.3s] Where you can get full episodes throughout the summer is over on Patreon. [1063.5s] Patreon.com slash dumb dragon cast. [1065.2s] So we've got the little mini-sodes in the main feed, [1067.9s] but we have the Adventures of which we just started [1070.8s] or will be just starting a new season over there, [1073.8s] which includes Opal, Ilya, and Night Hunter, [1077.2s] and Kyle's new character. [1078.6s] Kyle, do you want to introduce your character for the Adventures of? [1081.4s] Yeah, yeah. [1082.4s] My character's name is Nash Salmon Treats. [1085.4s] He is a Leonin barbarian rogue and I'm very, very excited [1090.3s] to have played him and to continue to play him. [1093.4s] I love that there's another barbarian on the team now. [1095.8s] Absolutely. [1096.6s] I hate that there's another cat on the team now. [1099.9s] I'm expecting it to be a source of conflict. [1101.4s] I don't think Night Hunter doesn't love it so much, [1104.9s] but Amy loves it. [1106.6s] It's not necessarily that he's a barbarian that Night Hunter doesn't like. [1110.0s] It's just the interactions haven't gone well so far. [1114.8s] Oh, it's fun, guys. [1115.8s] You're going to like it. [1116.6s] Some people get along and some people don't. [1117.7s] Yeah, that's how it works. [1118.6s] Figure it out. [1121.0s] Yeah, we will. [1122.0s] It's going to be a blast and we hope to see you over there. [1124.6s] And when you are a patron, you get an episode dedicated to you. [1127.8s] Which Russ definitely didn't forget and definitely already has the name ready. [1131.6s] Oh no, technical difficulties. [1134.5s] We should probably add it in, right? [1136.2s] It's just so cool he hasn't been able to say it yet [1139.2s] because we keep talking. [1141.4s] It's a real power. [1142.4s] We keep talking over him and he keeps going to put his hand up [1145.8s] and Amy will call on him. [1147.5s] I get on edgewise with these people. [1150.4s] That's how I run our marriage. [1153.3s] When he wants to talk, he raises his hand. [1155.8s] It's true. [1160.2s] Like today's patron, Stuttering GM. [1164.1s] Oh, Stuttering GM. [1166.8s] Oh, Stuttering GM. [1169.5s] I love it. [1170.1s] Thanks so much. [1171.0s] I think in any, like in our context, we think Game Master. [1176.6s] But I feel like in many contexts, people would be like, [1179.1s] so like the engine doesn't work that great in the automobile. [1183.0s] It's a very versatile name. [1184.6s] And I was thinking like General Manager. [1188.6s] General Motors, General Manager, could be any of them. [1190.8s] General Mills. [1191.6s] Maybe they make cereal. [1192.6s] We don't know. [1193.3s] Oh my gosh. [1194.7s] Could be Gary McPhee. [1196.3s] We don't know. [1197.3s] Could be. [1198.6s] Gary McPhee is a very specific name. [1201.3s] All right. [1202.0s] Join us like Stuttering GM on Patreon. [1205.1s] Patreon.com slash dumb dragon cast. [1207.0s] And we hope to see you over there. [1208.2s] And now we'll get you back to the episode. [1209.6s] Okay. [1209.9s] Thanks. [1210.2s] Bye. [1214.2s] Cav, you make your way out of City Hall, [1215.9s] waving goodbye to the security guards for the night. [1219.0s] As you're making your way down to the Brewed Awakening, [1221.4s] it's rather busy there tonight. [1223.2s] And as you take a peek through the window, [1226.1s] walking towards the front door, [1228.4s] you see all of your friends, [1230.3s] Bizard and Bonwyn and even Alydin [1232.6s] inside the Brewed Awakening. [1234.1s] Now is it like wing night [1235.9s] or what's going on in the Brewed Awakening [1237.6s] that everyone's there? [1240.3s] Kyle, why is Bizard there? [1241.8s] Because this is his favorite night. [1243.8s] Oh, I like the idea of wing night. [1247.0s] Sounds fucking good right now. [1248.5s] Yeah, I'd crush some wings right now. [1250.5s] Yeah, for reals. [1251.5s] I know. [1252.2s] Oh, wait. [1253.2s] So is there like maybe something fun [1255.2s] that goes along with that? [1256.2s] So like usually people watch sports on wing night, [1260.1s] like it's a game night or something. [1261.4s] Is it slam poetry time? [1264.5s] I was like, yes. [1266.4s] I had the image of like a cockfight, [1270.2s] but not a cockfight because that's brutal. [1273.1s] But people bring in their favorite chicken [1276.3s] and chickens don't like fly per se, [1279.8s] but they can flap quite a distance [1282.2s] and perhaps it's wing night [1285.0s] and they're seeing how far their chickens can fly. [1287.0s] It's a chicken tossing contest. [1289.0s] And the losers get eaten. [1292.0s] Yes, I love it. [1298.1s] Oh no, this took a turn. [1300.6s] You're thinking of your chickens in the Bible, aren't you? [1302.8s] Although that's really kind of, [1304.1s] it doesn't make sense because you'd want to eat [1305.7s] the stronger wings, like, you know, bigger muscles. [1309.1s] It's like a lottery situation. [1310.6s] The winner is the one who dies. [1312.3s] Yeah, yeah, that's right. [1313.9s] There we go. [1314.4s] You don't want to do well. [1315.8s] You want to bring your least impressive chicken. [1318.3s] They need to build more muscles on those weaker ones. [1320.5s] Your least impressive chicken. [1324.5s] Has everyone brought their worst in the flock? [1327.8s] Let's see them flapping. [1330.5s] Give them chickens a toss. [1333.1s] We see you exiting City Hall [1335.9s] and then transition to The Brewed Awakening [1338.9s] where outside as you are about to open the door, [1341.4s] you hear screams and hollers coming from inside. [1344.2s] And as you open the door, feathers are flying, [1347.0s] like just a plume of feathers flies out [1349.2s] as you see chickens flying across The Brewed Awakening. [1352.4s] Everybody's cheering for these chickens as you enter [1355.4s] and you see, I mean, it's packed, [1357.6s] but you see your friends Bonwyn and Bizard [1361.1s] and Alydin is hanging out with them at the table [1364.0s] and they catch your eye and give you a call over. [1368.9s] Oh, hey guys, did I miss it already? [1372.3s] Just the first heat. [1373.4s] There'll be more. [1374.3s] Don't worry, don't worry. [1375.2s] Nice, nice. [1376.8s] Kavlaran, good to see you. [1378.3s] He puts down your usual drink, which is? [1381.6s] Some sort of oatmeal stout. [1383.5s] Solid. [1384.6s] Yeah, yes, it's very filling. [1386.1s] It's good for you. [1387.3s] I'll get you something to eat. [1388.4s] Oak told me you only had two doughnuts [1390.1s] while waiting for Nina at her office today. [1392.2s] Then he runs off. [1392.9s] I mean, who's talking about the dough? [1394.6s] All right, well, thanks, Bench. [1396.5s] All right, what did I miss? [1397.9s] How many doughnuts did you have? [1399.8s] Two. [1400.4s] For one person? [1401.4s] I mean, it was like two in two minutes. [1403.6s] Yeah, but you're like. [1404.6s] I mean, for doughnuts, that's a good round number. [1406.7s] That's kind of what I thought. [1407.8s] And plus, like, [1408.6s] Alydin looks you up and is like, [1411.8s] two for a big person, I think is fine. [1414.8s] I mean, sure. [1415.8s] I just, next time I'll grab you one, Alydin. [1418.7s] Thanks. [1420.0s] Oh, I could buy my own doughnut now. [1422.7s] And she looks over to Bizard. [1428.1s] Like, uh-huh. [1429.6s] It's true. [1430.1s] You can. [1431.6s] I'm a paid employee. [1433.1s] Wow, that's very good. [1435.8s] Congratulations. [1437.9s] Thank you. [1438.9s] To be honest with you, Kavlaran, [1440.2s] it's under the table, so. [1442.0s] Oh, well. [1443.4s] Bizard's going to buy me my first beer. [1446.5s] Eventually, yes. [1447.8s] Yeah, maybe not tonight. [1449.0s] Probably not tonight, but at some point. [1452.2s] So what do you, what's your job entail? [1456.4s] Well, I take things out of boxes and then I put them [1461.9s] in the right places, not in the wrong places. [1465.0s] Because if you put it in the wrong places, [1467.0s] people get confused because I don't know if you know this [1469.9s] or if you've like been in a store a whole lot, [1472.6s] but people aren't very smart. [1474.8s] And like they need you to not only have it [1478.1s] where it is all the time, [1479.9s] but you need to also have like the name on it. [1484.1s] And then they still will come to you and ask you where it is. [1487.8s] So like, I mean, I make, you know, [1491.0s] the place couldn't even run without me. [1494.6s] I mean, yeah, I believe that because anytime I'm in a store, [1498.1s] if something's moved from the last time I was there, [1500.2s] I'm lost. [1500.8s] So you're doing a great service. [1503.4s] God, I hope I don't grow up like a regular adult. [1507.7s] I don't think you have to worry about that, Alevin. [1510.2s] Probably no chance of that. [1511.6s] Yeah, I wouldn't worry. [1513.3s] Yeah. [1514.0s] So about that beer. [1515.4s] Bench comes back and puts down this huge plate of stew [1518.3s] in front of you and then brings the table, [1521.1s] the wings that you had previously ordered [1523.3s] and a pound of all of the flavours [1525.0s] that are being served tonight. [1526.5s] And there's a little flag on top that just says, [1529.5s] Henrietta, fourth place. [1532.7s] Yeah, here you go. [1533.8s] You eat up all day just to do not enough [1537.0s] to keep that big boy strong. [1538.4s] Okay, I'm going to go check out all these customers over here. [1541.2s] I mean, if anyone would know, it's that guy, right? [1544.4s] He starts digging into the chicken, [1546.6s] but takes a half sec and after he grabs a wing, [1550.6s] kind of looks over to Bonwyn and says, [1553.3s] do you still have those thieves' tools by chance? [1558.6s] Unofficially, yes. [1560.9s] This is like Bonwyn and her friend, [1563.2s] Cav Lauren talking now, right? [1565.6s] Yeah. [1566.1s] Oh yeah, then I definitely do. [1567.8s] Okay, cool. [1568.9s] If like hypothetically, [1570.3s] I wanted to get into like a locked drawer, [1573.3s] maybe you could show me how to do that? [1575.2s] Well, I don't know if I could show you, [1576.4s] but I could probably do it. [1578.2s] Oh, I mean, that would also work. [1581.4s] What is in the locked drawer? [1583.5s] Great question. [1584.4s] Don't know. [1584.9s] That's what I want to find out. [1585.8s] What are you hoping is in the locked drawer? [1588.4s] All right. [1588.6s] Well, first off, there's two locked drawers. [1590.3s] Okay, great. [1591.3s] Probably some doors between us and the drawers. [1594.9s] There's some doors between the drawers. [1596.5s] Absolutely. [1597.2s] Okay, perfect. [1599.3s] I'm hoping there's a like second set of books, [1603.8s] like the real books. [1606.2s] Right, the real books, [1608.7s] like Rin Kipp was talking about, [1610.2s] like the actual books. [1612.5s] Yeah. [1613.0s] Okay, so I'm assuming- [1614.4s] The uncooked variety. [1615.3s] Yeah, yeah, the raw books. [1617.1s] The raw books. [1618.1s] So if we're looking for the books, [1620.7s] this is going to be some municipal crime, [1624.6s] like in a municipal office. [1626.6s] That's probably where we're heading. [1627.4s] Some sort of hall in the city. [1630.8s] Okay, yes. [1632.9s] When are you hoping this is going to happen? [1635.9s] I mean, sooner rather than later tonight, [1638.6s] maybe if possible, [1639.8s] but like also it is wing night [1641.4s] and I don't want to like take away from the festivities. [1643.9s] Well, we'll get all our sustenance in maybe [1646.7s] and then we can go check it out. [1648.3s] Chicken flies across the table. [1650.9s] While this is happening, [1652.6s] I pull on Bazaar's cloak [1655.2s] and I like gesture them to lean down a little bit [1658.6s] and as they're having their conversation. [1661.0s] Do they know that they can just get books [1664.7s] from like stores and stuff [1667.8s] and that they probably shouldn't cook them [1670.9s] because it's paper? [1673.8s] That will be another lesson that we will cover. [1677.3s] In fact, you may learn about it tonight [1679.9s] depending on how things go, [1681.8s] but I don't even know where to begin with this one, [1686.1s] but you are correct in what you are saying. [1688.4s] That sounds logical to me, [1690.4s] but there's a lot of things [1691.8s] that you got to read between the lines in those books. [1695.3s] Shit, I think I'm just confusing it. [1698.4s] I didn't go to school, Bazaar. [1701.4s] Well, school is fun, [1704.1s] but sometimes it's expensive to learn things [1706.3s] and when you can just learn them from people [1708.9s] that you happen to be around [1710.6s] and that's what we're doing here. [1712.6s] You don't know what they're talking about. [1713.4s] Kavlarne is going to teach me how to cook books? [1717.4s] I don't think it's going to be a teaching thing [1719.0s] as much as it is going to be [1720.2s] just a learning opportunity [1721.9s] through observation and experience. [1725.9s] I'm going to observe Bonwyn stealing raw books. [1737.4s] That's to be seen, [1738.4s] but that's the goal, it sounds like. [1741.0s] Oh, can I come? [1742.6s] Well, I mean, if we're invited, [1744.9s] I mean, if it is at a hall in the city [1747.5s] as I kind of look over at them with a glare, [1750.1s] like pretty obvious, but you know. [1753.4s] Really sneaky, really sneaky language [1755.7s] between me and Kav over here. [1757.4s] But, you know, if there's, you know, [1759.4s] I know Kavlarne's been doing some work up there, [1761.6s] but if there's more credence needed [1764.3s] to be given to a visit, [1765.9s] then who better than a mayor's advisor? [1769.1s] Do you have an office, Kavlarne? [1770.4s] Can I see it? [1772.9s] I've never been inside of town hall before. [1776.5s] Like, maybe could I have a tour? [1779.1s] I could probably arrange for a tour. [1781.5s] I share an office, so it's not my office, [1784.0s] but you remember. [1785.4s] Like bunk beds. [1786.4s] Yeah, you remember. [1787.1s] Once I stacked a crate on top of another crate [1790.2s] and then Tally slept under that first crate inside [1793.4s] and then I slept on the top. [1794.6s] You know what? [1795.0s] That's very creative. [1796.6s] Thank you. [1797.9s] So can I see your office bunk beds? [1800.0s] Well, there's no beds, [1801.8s] but in fact there's only just the one desk. [1804.6s] But we make it work. [1805.8s] You know, he's really good at the... [1808.3s] Anyway, doesn't matter. [1809.2s] Yes, we'll go and we'll get a tour. [1812.7s] I wonder if Nina's good friend, [1816.5s] Bazaard, couldn't maybe wrangle her [1820.2s] as a high-ranking sort of official [1823.0s] into giving a personalized tour [1826.9s] to his promising new apprentice, student, [1830.6s] however you want to spin that and just... [1832.8s] Protégé. [1833.6s] I think that's what, right? [1835.8s] Protégé, absolutely. [1837.4s] That's a very big word for somebody [1839.5s] who didn't go to school. [1841.1s] Did I say that word? [1841.9s] I don't know how to spell it. [1843.7s] Did I say that? [1845.0s] Maybe I did. [1847.0s] As far as asking Nina goes, [1851.1s] I certainly could ask Nina. [1852.3s] I mean, I wouldn't say that we're like friends. [1857.2s] I mean, we work together [1858.8s] and that's about as far as that relationship goes. [1862.7s] I feel like it might not even be that close. [1867.0s] Does she have the rob-ups? [1870.2s] You're getting closer. [1871.3s] You're getting really close. [1873.6s] Maybe you don't want her there [1875.8s] if you're going to take her things. [1879.0s] I never take ever, [1880.9s] but if I were going to, [1882.9s] it wouldn't be when that person was there, [1885.4s] which I wouldn't. [1887.1s] Yeah, hypothetically, [1888.6s] it would not make any sense [1889.9s] to take something from someone when they're there. [1892.7s] But would it be the perfect opportunity? [1897.4s] Well, what if that person was there [1901.3s] without being there [1902.7s] and it just looked like them? [1905.0s] Okay, say more. [1906.9s] I'm going to need to hear more about this. [1909.4s] Bizarre pulls out his tome [1910.8s] and he starts flipping through it [1912.1s] and he's like, [1912.8s] this page right here. [1914.3s] I could make myself look like Nina. [1918.3s] What? [1920.6s] I've seen Nina. [1921.9s] She's half your size. [1923.8s] She's... [1925.2s] You know, there's some adjustment [1927.8s] that's allowed within the confines of the spell, [1930.8s] but I think it could potentially work. [1934.7s] And, you know, [1935.9s] it would give us a lot of ammo against the mayor [1940.8s] and against, you know, [1943.0s] most of the rest of the group [1945.1s] that's involved with their ne'er-do-willing [1948.3s] against the city. [1950.0s] It's a gamble, though. [1951.8s] Caviar, the expert. [1953.2s] Would it be helpful to have someone... [1956.9s] You're blowing my mind, Bizarre. [1959.0s] But they could look like someone [1963.9s] where we were trying to find the books. [1965.4s] That seems like that would be amazing, right? [1969.1s] Yeah, I mean, it really could be. [1971.1s] Now, when you say look like, [1972.8s] does that also include sound like? [1976.5s] Reading over the text real quick, [1979.0s] because it's not something I've really thought about using, [1982.3s] but it's one I could certainly be prepared to use. [1988.4s] What does she sound like? [1989.3s] Does she sound different? [1991.8s] Would he just have to talk a little higher? [1994.6s] Well, I mean, not as comical, I guess, as that, [2001.4s] but, you know, just... [2003.9s] Could you sound like her if the need arose? [2009.4s] Or could you convincingly pretend [2011.3s] you had a really sore throat and just couldn't talk? [2013.8s] Now, that I think I could do. [2016.8s] Yeah, that I think I could do. [2019.4s] As far as I can see, [2020.6s] the, you know, clothing, armor, weapons, those kind of things. [2025.2s] Yeah, I can make myself at least a foot shorter or taller, so... [2031.0s] I mean, definitely shorter in this case. [2033.9s] I would have to fake a voice. [2035.6s] And if anybody were to... [2038.2s] I don't know, I can't touch anybody that doesn't know, [2041.0s] because otherwise then it's like, [2042.3s] ha ha, obviously you're not that short. [2045.4s] So there's a lot of potential holes in it, [2047.7s] not to mention it is a... [2050.2s] Yeah, it's not the most taxing illusion, [2053.2s] but, you know, still have to expend the life essence for it. [2058.6s] Sure, gotta pay the tax, yeah. [2060.2s] Yeah, exactly. [2061.1s] Very, very appropriate, Kavlar. [2063.4s] We got a lot of wings to eat still, [2065.2s] so let's just keep discussing. [2066.6s] I'm sure we can hammer something out. [2068.4s] Oh, yeah, absolutely. [2069.8s] Snarf, snarf, snarf. [2072.5s] You're gonna have boobs. [2163.3s] Patreon.com slash dumbdraggingcast. [2164.9s] See you over there. [2165.4s] Okay, bye. [2171.1s] Okay, cool. [2171.6s] A G-name. [2172.7s] Interesting. [2174.8s] What a strange, what a strange new ground to be breaking. [2179.6s] You know what? [2180.6s] Sometimes you just have to take the path least taken. [2186.1s] Is it Tom or is it Kavlarin [2187.7s] that doesn't remember the locked cabinet [2189.6s] in Nina's office? [2190.5s] Oh, I did not remember it at all. [2193.2s] Now that you mentioned it, I remember it, [2194.8s] but it was not coming to me. [2196.4s] Yeah, fair enough. [2199.2s] No, absolutely. [2199.9s] I remember spying it and everything. [2202.3s] How do I get Tom to break into this office [2204.6s] without saying Tom break into this office? [2207.7s] This season seems like it's just going to end in crime. [2210.0s] All around crime. [2210.8s] Yeah, it's ending in crime 100%. [2212.1s] Everyone's going to do a crime. [2214.2s] Except Alydin, who's been doing crime to survive. [2220.0s] The fact that I'm not doing crime right now, [2221.8s] I'm on the up and up getting paid and then crying shit. [2227.2s] Amy not doing crime is almost a crime in and of itself. [2230.4s] Agreed. [2231.0s] I know, right? [2232.0s] When am I the good one? [2233.7s] Dumbgeons & Dragons is a Dumb Dragons production.
