[0.0s] previously on Dumbgeons and Dragons. [2.6s] Now, Carceri is a model for all other prisons in existence. [9.7s] I mean, I feel like that's probably the one we're gonna need to go to. [13.0s] Give it a shot. Probably can't even use magic, so... [15.9s] You can use magic. Use it wisely. [19.4s] Yeah, one of us could probably die. [22.0s] Two wizards along the side step up with books in their hand and begin casting a spell. [28.3s] Oh, looks like it's lots of magic words, guys. [30.3s] You all begin to spin in place and you're diving, but you begin to lose consciousness. [37.6s] You begin to black out and you're fading in and out. [42.2s] You find yourselves waking up, an unknown time later, on dusty, gravelly path. [50.6s] You hear, like, a droning, howling wind and thunder rolling across the sky. [60.6s] And you look up and the shadows that you see before you are black and you see movement within them. [70.6s] Beyond, there's this crack of lightning and this enormous tower. [80.6s] Welcome to Dumbgeons and Dragons. I'm your dungeon master, Russ More. He-him. [84.6s] Also with me today is Karla Maxted. [86.6s] She-her. Tonight I'm playing Yen Bol Nyori. Also She-her. [90.6s] And Amy More. [92.6s] She-her. I play Thea Amastasia. Also She-her. [96.6s] Also Tom Laird. [98.6s] He-him. And I'm playing Telgir, who also goes by He-him. [102.6s] And because we just won't kill off our characters, back again, Kristen Flemmons! [108.6s] Just kill me already! [110.6s] We'll never let her leave! [112.6s] Kristen Flemmons, She-her, I'm playing Agath, Godlost, Catho Olavi, and I think I said it right this time. [118.6s] Nailed it! [120.6s] Yeah, that was good. Right, now we're in a weird place, and it's gonna be good. [124.6s] And where lots of weird places that are good is over at Patreon.com. It's just one place. [132.6s] And it's just good. I mean, weird I guess in a way, but just in all the positive connotations. [138.6s] Exactly, that's what I said. [140.6s] Like in a keep Portland weird kind of way. [142.6s] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [144.6s] You know what I meant, yeah. When you are a patron, you get an episode dedicated to you like today's patron, Phoebe! [149.6s] Thanks, Phoebe! [151.6s] Thank you! [153.6s] Thank you! [154.6s] Patreon.com slash dumb dragon cast, and now fuck it, let's play! [158.6s] You awake from a storm-ridden stupor, and you are in a dark, twisted place. [171.6s] Everything around you that you can see is stone and jagged and sharp. [179.6s] You see that castle or cathedral or... [184.6s] built up into one of these mountains off in this range that has lightning and thunder rolling and cracking behind it. [195.6s] Looks welcoming. [197.6s] Where do you think we are? [199.6s] What the hell just happened? [200.6s] Have we traveled to a different plane? [202.6s] It certainly doesn't feel like the astral plane anymore. [206.6s] I move my body without thinking about direction, just to check. [210.6s] You can move. [212.6s] I want to know what moving your body without thinking of direction looks like. [218.6s] It's a sight to behold. [220.6s] A goth is running in like serpentine wheezing bobbing. [226.6s] It's working, guys! [228.6s] I'm not even thinking while I'm doing this! [231.6s] Can you tell? [233.6s] It's like a terrifying interpret of dance, slash martial arts. [238.6s] I'm scared. [240.6s] This is the episode, everybody just join a goth and doing what a goth is doing. [246.6s] Moves without thinking about it off into the distance, and that's where we lose the character. [250.6s] Maybe it'll summon the gods, you don't know. [252.6s] Oh, that's true. [253.6s] It could. [254.6s] It's true, anything's possible. [255.6s] The right foot movements. [256.6s] Does what we see line up clearly with one of the places we were? [261.6s] Because I feel like there are some key words that sound like the other planes you were telling us about, [266.6s] but I'm not sure that there's an exactly one-to-one parallel. [272.6s] No. [273.6s] No. [274.6s] Meat. [275.6s] So, yeah. [277.6s] Well, we're not underground. [279.6s] So, yeah, Limbo was the plane of pure chaos, a roiling soup of impermanent matter and energy. [287.6s] This kind of looks like a place. [289.6s] It's not the Nine Hills. [290.6s] It's like we can rule out Limbo. [292.6s] Yeah, the tower seems sort of permanent, the mountain ranges. [296.6s] Yeah. [297.6s] Pandemonium was described as a plane of madness, great mass of rock riddled with tunnels carved by howling winds, [303.6s] cold, noisy, and dark with no natural light. [307.6s] Okay. [308.6s] It's wind. [309.6s] It's not noisy, though. [311.6s] And we can see things, so therefore there's some sort of natural light. [314.6s] Yes, there's got to be a natural light. [316.6s] So not that one. [317.6s] Okay. [318.6s] And not the Nine Hills, so. [320.6s] Everything, when I say shadow and dark, I say it's almost in like a monochromatic sense, like an inverted image. [330.6s] Like a sepia tone or something like that. [332.6s] Yeah, like, yeah, you're kind of greyscale more than anything, but yeah. [337.6s] Where else were we? [338.6s] Carcery was the prison world. [343.6s] Carcery was a plane of desolation and despair. [348.6s] There is, you don't feel great about the place that you're in. [352.6s] Holds layers of vast bogs, fetid jungles, windswept deserts, jagged mountains, frigid oceans, and black ice. [360.6s] So again. [361.6s] A range of terrain. [363.6s] Possible similarities. [364.6s] That one's pretty diverse. [365.6s] Yeah. [366.6s] And then a furnace, which you were told you wouldn't be able to reach. [370.6s] We were told. [371.6s] People say all sorts of things. [373.6s] We were looking for an olive pool, and yet here we are somewhere, having seen no pools. [378.6s] Yeah, no pools. [379.6s] Started breathing water, woke up in an unfamiliar place. [384.6s] Well, we didn't take any damage. [389.6s] Nope, you haven't recovered anything, but you haven't taken anything extra. [394.6s] Okay. [395.6s] Um, Donnie, okay? [397.6s] Where are we? [400.6s] TBD. [402.6s] I went there on a Friday once. [405.6s] That's TGI. [407.6s] Oh, right. [410.6s] Sorry, flashbacks to the before times when things were good. [413.6s] Yes, I have those too. [415.6s] This doesn't look great, eh? [418.6s] Do we? [419.6s] No. [420.6s] Go to the castle? [421.6s] I mean, my first instinct is to go to the castle. [425.6s] I agree. [426.6s] It seems like my instinct is always to seek out people or culture. [435.6s] I don't know that we have that here, but the castle calls to me. [444.6s] You've been walking and following this path along this jagged mountain cliffside, and [449.6s] it gets wider and narrower at different points, and you've been walking for a little while, [454.6s] and the castle's getting nearer to you. [457.6s] You're winding around, and as you get closer, you see that there's this rope bridge [464.6s] that separates the castle and up ahead the cliffside you're walking on. [471.6s] Looks like it's hanging on by literal threads, and as you kind of notice this and are able [477.6s] to see this coming into sight, you hear a tumbling of rocks coming from down the mountainside [486.6s] behind you. [488.6s] Like directly behind us, like dodge? [492.6s] Not quite, but back a little ways, like 20 or 30 feet back, rocks begin to crumble [498.6s] down and land on the path that you've been walking on, and then you hear a loud thud [504.6s] from up above in the mountain, and you look up, and you see a giant, and when I say [513.6s] giant, I mean gargantuan. [515.6s] It's a 30-foot-tall skeletal figure that is wielding... [523.6s] A banana. [524.6s] That has... [525.6s] A heart-shaped box of chocolates. [527.6s] It has these giant jagged claws and sharp spiked shoulders and spines that run all [538.6s] the way down its body and with a giant step lands down onto this path and swings to [546.6s] take a swipe at your group. [548.6s] Everybody make a dexterity saving throw, please. [551.6s] Does this look similar to the one that we saw floating? [553.6s] That's a good question. [554.6s] No, no, the other one looked like a cohesive unit. [558.6s] I picked this up before I looked at the number. [561.6s] This one looks like a creature that has been constructed of many different skeletal [569.6s] masses. [570.6s] Oh, fuck this. [571.6s] Fuck this guy. [572.6s] Fuck this guy. [573.6s] What? [574.6s] What? [575.6s] What? [576.6s] What? [577.6s] What? [578.6s] Prim's Bane, motherfucker! [579.6s] I rolled... [580.6s] It's a giant skeleton. [581.6s] It's not Prim's Bane. [583.6s] Orcus? [584.6s] You said Dex, right? [586.6s] Yeah. [587.6s] 22. [588.6s] Dex save? [589.6s] Dex save. [590.6s] Okay. [591.6s] 18. [592.6s] 19. [593.6s] 16. [594.6s] Then do. [595.6s] This claw digs out the earth right before you as you all jump back and it begins [603.6s] climbing along the wall towards you. [606.6s] Yeah, we'll roll for initiative. [608.6s] Ew. [609.6s] Give y'all a chance or otherwise I'd keep the other one. [612.6s] Oh. [613.6s] Ten. [614.6s] Ten. [615.6s] I used my one good roll on my dex save. [616.6s] Which probably is a good thing. [617.6s] Isn't that a good thing? [618.6s] Time to use it, yeah. [619.6s] You can have a roll. [620.6s] 17. [621.6s] I got a seven. [622.6s] 19. [623.6s] That means Yenbul is up first. [626.6s] Oh, no. [627.6s] How far away is it? [629.6s] Well, it just took a huge swipe at you and you just dodged, so it's right there. [635.6s] It's right there. [636.6s] And it's like attached to the wall with its claws and like its spined toes and you see [644.6s] it more clearly now and its entire face is bones to make up a skull and there's like [652.6s] these huge horned ox heads that have been placed onto its shoulders and it's pretty [659.6s] bad. [660.6s] It's like it's wearing like bunny slippers, but they're ox heads. [665.6s] Oh. [666.6s] Yeah. [667.6s] He made it seem so much cuter. [668.6s] Yeah. [669.6s] Kind of whimsical. [670.6s] Why don't I use my Mace of Terror and try and hit it. [677.6s] That sounds fun. [678.6s] Yeah. [679.6s] Why don't I do that? [680.6s] Hit it. [681.6s] 25. [682.6s] Are you maintaining position? [684.6s] Are you flying up to it? [686.6s] No, I forgot I could fly. [689.6s] God. [690.6s] Yenbul, you're so cool. [694.6s] I mean, I feel like it's probably is very big and its claw is right in front of me, [700.6s] so I'm probably just going to hit at the thing that's like the thing that is close [705.6s] to me. [706.6s] It needs to make a wisdom saving throw. [710.6s] I bet it's real dumb. [712.6s] I mean, a pile of bones all stitched together. [714.6s] I'm hoping it's really dumb. [716.6s] 16. [717.6s] Fuck. [718.6s] God damn it. [719.6s] Well, it's less dumb than I thought it was going to be. [721.6s] A little bit less dumb than I was. [723.6s] Just one. [724.6s] Like if I had to enumerate it, one less dumb than I was hoping it would be. [728.6s] Sorry. [729.6s] Or one more dumb. [731.6s] Okay, great. [732.6s] Well, then I guess I'll just do this shitty damage. [737.6s] Four damage. [739.6s] Four. [740.6s] Four damage. [741.6s] It was going to be really cool when it got scared of us guys and ran away, [746.6s] but it didn't happen. [747.6s] Maybe next time. [749.6s] I totally would have got scared. [753.6s] Okay, Talkier, you're up. [755.6s] Yeah, I guess take a big old swipe at the hand as well. [762.6s] First attack is going to be a 32 if I do my math correctly. [766.6s] Oh my goodness. [767.6s] Whoa, Jesus. [768.6s] Yeah, 32 on the first attack. [770.6s] And still not a nat? [771.6s] No, that was 19. [773.6s] Oh, jeez. [775.6s] And the next one will be a 19 to hit. [778.6s] So those will hit. [779.6s] All right, well then it definitely seems like the 32 was overkill. [784.6s] It's just with feeling that time, yeah. [786.6s] Sure, yeah. [787.6s] All right, here we go. [789.6s] 27 all said and done. [791.6s] Bones splinter off of like two of the claws that you hit through there. [797.6s] And that'll be it for Talkier. [799.6s] Its claw gets hit and two of the fingers break off and it moves back just a bit. [806.6s] And you see the bones begin to move and reshape themselves into four separate creatures. [814.6s] A quarter of the size. [816.6s] But now there are four of them. [818.6s] Oh no. [819.6s] And they run towards each of you and try to hit you. [825.6s] So we'll go first, one running towards Yen Bull. [829.6s] Jumping across the small chasm it has created. [833.6s] That's a natural 20. [835.6s] That will do it. [837.6s] 20 thunder damage. [839.6s] Yikes. [840.6s] Talkier. [841.6s] No way. [842.6s] Sure. [843.6s] Are they within the... [845.6s] Yeah, you're all kind of on a cliff side. [847.6s] The shields. [848.6s] Can I try the warding mover again? [850.6s] Try the shield. [851.6s] I mean, it's a gnat, so... [853.6s] Do you want to save it for somebody else? [855.6s] Because I have a reaction as well that I could try. [858.6s] Okay. [859.6s] Yeah, the gnat maybe. [860.6s] Save it for me, Chris. [862.6s] This one's coming in hot, so maybe... [866.6s] Alrighty. [867.6s] They hit me? [869.6s] Yes. [870.6s] They need to make a dex saving throw. [872.6s] Three. [873.6s] Great. [874.6s] Then they're going to take 2d8 damage. [876.6s] But for why? [877.6s] They're facing the wrath of my storm. [879.6s] Oh. [882.6s] Seven. [884.6s] Rolls are hard, apparently. [887.6s] Okay, Talkier, one's coming at you. [890.6s] That's a 15 to hit. [892.6s] No sale. [894.6s] Thea, that's a gnat one, so... [896.6s] Come on. [898.6s] One gnat one. [900.6s] Something terrible has to happen. [902.6s] It trips. [904.6s] The four of them are leaping across this chasm that it itself has created, [910.6s] and it goes wide, and you see it hit and land on the other side, [915.6s] and break apart on the path. [918.6s] Some of the bones falling down into the chasm below. [922.6s] A goth, the final one is going to try and hit you for 17. [927.6s] It's not going to do it. [929.6s] Okay, Thea, and then a goth. [932.6s] I'm going to cast fairy fire on the big dude, because it seems like... [936.6s] There are four smaller ones now. [938.6s] Can I cast it on all of them? [939.6s] Let me see. [940.6s] I can cast a 20 foot cube in range. [946.6s] Okay, within 20 feet of each other? [948.6s] Yeah, you're all kind of clustered together. [950.6s] Yeah, all right then. [952.6s] No, no, not us, them. [954.6s] They are all attacking you, so you're all kind of clustered together. [957.6s] Even the big one, is his hand still in the middle? [959.6s] There is no more big one. [960.6s] What? [961.6s] The big one turned into four small ones. [963.6s] Sorry, I misheard. [965.6s] I thought it broke two fingers, and then those created... [969.6s] No, it recoiled and then reshaped into four separate ones. [973.6s] One of which has broken itself. [976.6s] Okay, cool. [977.6s] Did not check itself before it wrecked itself. [981.6s] So, each object in the 20 foot cube is outlined in a violet light. [988.6s] Can I get a dex save? [989.6s] And you have to make a dexterity saving throw. [991.6s] One, that's a six. [994.6s] Two, that's a nat 20. [996.6s] Three, that's a 12. [999.6s] And four, that's a five. [1001.6s] I thought there were only three. [1002.6s] One broke apart, but it's still a thing. [1005.6s] Oh, it's still a thing. [1006.6s] Okay, well, they all fail except for one, [1008.6s] which means any attack roll against an affected creature has advantage. [1014.6s] If we're following my one, two, three, four, [1016.6s] the one that is on you specifically is the one that's safe. [1020.6s] Well, then I'm just going to have to hit it with my scimitar. [1027.6s] Oh, 16? [1029.6s] Yes. [1030.6s] Oh, yeah. [1031.6s] Six damage. [1032.6s] Yeah. [1033.6s] Perfect. [1034.6s] Agath, it is your turn. [1035.6s] Use that Post-it notes. [1036.6s] So, Faerie Fire, you get advantage on that. [1040.6s] Nice. [1041.6s] Love it. [1042.6s] I think this may be the first time Faerie Fire has ever worked for me. [1047.6s] All right. [1048.6s] I am going to, you know, rotate through all my Post-it notes, [1051.6s] but also all my weapons. [1052.6s] I just noticed I have a cool sounding Revenant double-bladed scimitar. [1056.6s] So, I'll use that now because... [1059.6s] Because why not? [1060.6s] Why wouldn't you? [1061.6s] Look at that. [1062.6s] That looks dope. [1064.6s] And I will whack something with it. [1066.6s] Excellent. [1067.6s] Whoever is the shiniest and the closest. [1069.6s] One right in front of you is a Blaze with Faerie Fire. [1073.6s] Going down. [1075.6s] Advantage. [1076.6s] Yeah, first one. [1078.6s] 26. [1080.6s] Yes. [1082.6s] That'll be six damage on that one. [1085.6s] That wasn't so hot, but 21. [1088.6s] This one will be nine damage. [1092.6s] Okay. [1093.6s] And third strike. [1095.6s] Oh, nat 20! [1096.6s] Yay! [1097.6s] There we go. [1099.6s] One. [1102.6s] That's stupid. [1104.6s] Now, like, eight damage. [1106.6s] Didn't roll all ones on the damage dice. [1109.6s] Oh, no! [1111.6s] Yeah, so first and second hit, like, carve through the bones, [1115.6s] and they're splintering, [1116.6s] and then the third, which would have been the one, [1118.6s] but you hit in the same spot. [1119.6s] It was just, you were too accurate. [1121.6s] Yeah, there's just, like, a lot of space in skeletons, you know? [1124.6s] So you can go right to the core and there's nothing there. [1127.6s] Okay, cool. [1129.6s] I don't feel like these guys are hefty enough [1132.6s] to use a big Post-It note on, so. [1134.6s] Okay. [1135.6s] But I forgot last time. [1136.6s] Does Rex also get to do things? [1139.6s] Rex gets to go. [1140.6s] Donnie would get to go after. [1141.6s] Donnie, I don't know how much damage [1143.6s] Donnie Sting's going to do to the bones. [1145.6s] I'll tell Donnie to come out when I think he can, you know, [1148.6s] sting something that isn't just completely made of bone. [1150.6s] Okay. [1151.6s] Well, it just, like, hooves against bones. [1154.6s] I feel like that's a good, that's a good option. [1156.6s] Yeah, it's a solid crunch. [1157.6s] Yeah, I think so. [1158.6s] Just crunch. [1159.6s] It works against humans. [1161.6s] Crunch a skeleton, so. [1165.6s] Does he also get advantage? [1166.6s] Yeah. [1167.6s] Okay. [1168.6s] So that's 19. [1170.6s] Yes. [1171.6s] 2d8 plus four, geez, buddy. [1173.6s] Okay. [1174.6s] Okay. [1175.6s] Rex is badass. [1176.6s] Yeah. [1177.6s] 12 bludgeoning damage plus 2d6 poison damage, [1181.6s] even with his hooves. [1182.6s] Okay. [1183.6s] Um, plus seven poison. [1185.6s] Okay. [1186.6s] Not sure that the skeletons care about the poison, [1188.6s] but it's there. [1190.6s] They do not care about the poison. [1192.6s] Yeah, I didn't think so. [1193.6s] The crushing is relevant. [1194.6s] Uh, okay. [1196.6s] Turns out they really care about the crushing. [1198.6s] They really. [1199.6s] Yeah, yeah. [1200.6s] Care more so. [1201.6s] All of them are still up. [1203.6s] The one that broke apart you see behind you [1205.6s] is starting to reform as we move back. [1207.6s] Of course. [1208.6s] Somebody run over there [1209.6s] and just start throwing the individual pieces [1211.6s] over the edge of the cliff. [1213.6s] Come on, let's solve a problem, people. [1215.6s] Let's do this. [1216.6s] Don't need this femur. [1217.6s] Make some neat jewelry with it instead. [1219.6s] I think that I am going to, [1222.6s] no, that's just no damage, [1224.6s] and that is necrotic damage, [1225.6s] which against the skeleton, [1227.6s] probably not very helpful. [1229.6s] I mean, might even heal them? [1230.6s] Maybe, right? [1232.6s] Uh, so let's, sacred flame. [1235.6s] So, dex. [1237.6s] Roll dex. [1238.6s] Roll in. [1239.6s] On the one that's, you know, attacking me. [1241.6s] Yup. [1242.6s] Uh, 11. [1243.6s] Ha ha! [1244.6s] Are bones flammable? [1246.6s] I hope so because I rolled 24 damage. [1248.6s] I hate radiant damage. [1250.6s] I would have to think undead slash bone monsters [1253.6s] would take it extra hard. [1254.6s] You would think, right? [1255.6s] Bone monsters. [1258.6s] Hey, I have a bone monster inside me right now, Tom. [1262.6s] I think you should show a little respect. [1265.6s] My apologies. [1266.6s] We're all just bone monsters. [1268.6s] We're all just bone monsters [1269.6s] covered in flesh. [1270.6s] Trying to make our way in the world. [1271.6s] Jesus. [1275.6s] Amy doesn't want to be my friend anymore. [1277.6s] No, I definitely do. [1279.6s] Because what was going to come out of my mouth is going to be, [1281.6s] is going to be my new Tinder username. [1287.6s] I'm not on Tinder. [1288.6s] Just to clarify. [1290.6s] Well, you are now [1291.6s] because you came up with that amazing name. [1293.6s] Bone monster. [1294.6s] We're an apple, honey. [1295.6s] Yeah. [1296.6s] I don't know. [1297.6s] Well, I have sex. [1298.6s] Yeah. [1299.6s] Whatever. [1300.6s] You know, sex. [1301.6s] Bone monster? [1302.6s] I get it. [1303.6s] Come on. [1304.6s] Yeah, no, we're all here. [1305.6s] I know. [1306.6s] We got it. [1307.6s] You're the one still explaining it. [1308.6s] I know. [1309.6s] Sorry. [1310.6s] I haven't had a good dick joke in a while, [1311.6s] so it's just awkward. [1313.6s] That's a massive hit on this one. [1315.6s] The legs crush out from below it. [1317.6s] You see whatever splinters off is beginning to move back [1320.6s] and towards another of the creatures. [1324.6s] Pelgear. [1325.6s] OK, so am I engaged with one of the ones that I'm fighting with [1330.6s] or is there still like some wiggle room to get around a little bit? [1332.6s] No, you would have been straight melee. [1335.6s] OK, let's do some more damage of some kind. [1339.6s] Maybe I'll take like one slice [1341.6s] and then another try to like use my shield to like bash him into the chasm. [1347.6s] Yeah, for sure. [1348.6s] Throw a little something different at him. [1349.6s] I like it. [1350.6s] First one with my plus 13 is a 22. [1356.6s] OK, got to beat 16 on all of this here. [1360.6s] I keep forgetting to say, but yeah. [1362.6s] And a 22 for the shield bash. [1365.6s] Yeah, it goes flying off, shooting out into the chasm below. [1368.6s] So one is gone for now anyways. [1373.6s] The one that had originally broken apart is now beginning to reform. [1376.6s] Actually, it's moving towards the pieces that are moving to reassemble. [1380.6s] So it looks like three of them are trying to, again, reconvene together. [1385.6s] And the one that's fighting you, Thea, is going to swing. [1388.6s] And that's a plus 12. [1391.6s] 21. [1392.6s] How long did the nice spell last? [1395.6s] That gave me a plus two for my armor class. [1400.6s] I think 10 minutes. [1402.6s] How long were we out for? [1406.6s] Yeah, we'll say it's at the tail end, sure. [1409.6s] OK, it doesn't matter because it brings me to a 19. [1412.6s] I just wanted to know. [1413.6s] OK, that hits me. [1415.6s] 10 thunder damage. [1417.6s] Thea. [1419.6s] I'm going to hit that one. [1422.6s] I'm going to hit him back, I guess. [1425.6s] I want to use like thorn whip and pull the creature. [1429.6s] And it says 10 feet closer to me, but I want it to be 10 feet toward the chasm. [1434.6s] You want momentum to take over? [1436.6s] Yeah. [1437.6s] OK. [1438.6s] That's what I'd like to do. [1439.6s] Sure, you can certainly try. [1440.6s] Okey dokey. [1441.6s] So I don't pray to anybody, but I just hope that this isn't going to cause a huge universal backlash. [1448.6s] And I create a long vine-like whip that's all thorny. [1453.6s] Probably doesn't matter to him, but whatever. [1456.6s] That comes out of my hand and it is going to try to wrap itself around the creature. [1465.6s] Oh, 18. [1467.6s] 18 will hit. [1468.6s] And is there still fairy fire? [1470.6s] Not on the one that I'm fighting. [1473.6s] There's one that I missed. [1476.6s] And it takes 1d6 piercing, and that's a 3. [1481.6s] And this creature's large, right? [1484.6s] Yep. [1485.6s] OK, good. [1486.6s] So I pull it, and I want to pull it 10 feet and try to like, not to me, I want to like whip it. [1493.6s] Try to whip it past me. [1495.6s] Just drag it closer to the chasm somehow. [1498.6s] I don't know how close I am to the chasm, but that's my end goal. [1500.6s] So you're going to whip it? [1502.6s] Whip it good. [1503.6s] You know I am, Tom. [1505.6s] Yes, you do that. [1507.6s] As it passes you, though, make a dexterity saving throw. [1510.6s] Well, I just want to attack it again as it passes me, though, because I have my daggers still. [1514.6s] Can I do that? [1515.6s] Sure, but you're pulling it. [1517.6s] So I'm going to get you to make a dexterity saving throw. [1519.6s] OK, all right, fine. I can do that. [1521.6s] No, I can't do that. [1529.6s] It's the middle time, and we're starting right now. [1532.6s] It's the middle! [1533.6s] We're not going to talk about kissing. [1534.6s] Oh, did you think it was a round, Amy? [1536.6s] Yeah, well, I was just jumping with my own, right? [1539.6s] I just kept going, and now we're talking about kissing. [1542.6s] I said we're not going to talk about kissing. [1544.6s] I got in so much trouble. [1547.6s] So many weird emails. [1548.6s] Guys, they called HR on me. I'm HR. [1551.6s] It was a very awkward conversation. [1553.6s] It was a really like 100th episode type of conversation that he had to have with himself. [1557.6s] Russ, excuse me, just put you on hold here. [1561.6s] A very special episode. [1563.6s] I'm sorry, you called yourself. [1564.6s] You didn't even take yourself into your own office. [1567.6s] You decided it was too awkward. [1568.6s] You had to do it via phone. [1570.6s] Yeah, two different lines. [1571.6s] But not only via phone, but via phone on speakerphone. [1575.6s] It was something. [1576.6s] Yeah, well, we need to be able to hear it as a group, right? [1581.6s] I wanted to know the matter was being dealt with. [1583.6s] Excuse me, Russ. Russ is here. [1586.6s] All right, well, I hope you're all enjoying this episode. [1591.6s] And this interlude. Apologies for two minutes like this. [1596.6s] But I think this might be why. [1597.6s] We definitely didn't record them on the same night. [1599.6s] No, this might just be why you come here to the middle and you don't just skip, skip, skip, skip, skip past it. [1603.6s] Because you never know what's going to come out of Russ's mouth. [1606.6s] Is it going to be a kiss? [1607.6s] Might be. [1609.6s] The kiss, the kiss is on my lips. [1617.6s] What are we talking about? Who knows? Doesn't matter. [1619.6s] Doesn't matter. [1620.6s] Well, welcome to the middle. [1622.6s] We're just going to restart. [1624.6s] No, it's nowhere in it. [1626.6s] This is it. [1627.6s] We've committed to this being the middle. [1629.6s] We're in the middle of the middle. [1630.6s] And we've wasted a lot of time. [1632.6s] So real quick, we should say. [1635.6s] We really appreciate you guys listening. [1637.6s] Yeah, we do. [1639.6s] You're awesome. [1640.6s] Yeah. [1641.6s] And thanks for putting up with us. [1644.6s] Yeah, that's a big one. [1646.6s] Shenanigans. [1648.6s] Okay. [1649.6s] We'll get you back to the episode now. [1651.6s] Okay. [1652.6s] Thanks. [1653.6s] Bye. [1661.6s] You don't get out of the way quick enough. [1663.6s] Oh, no. [1664.6s] And you pull it and it connects with you. [1668.6s] Oh, we're in a bony embrace. [1673.6s] And we call this a bony M. [1675.6s] Momentum takes over. [1678.6s] And you feel yourself falling backwards. [1681.6s] Not into the chasm, though. [1682.6s] How close was I to the chasm? [1684.6s] Guys, I've fallen into too many things in this stupid broadcast. [1688.6s] Into the chasm. [1689.6s] No. [1691.6s] Did I obliterate the one that I was fighting? [1695.6s] Yeah, it was crawling back towards the one that was fighting. [1697.6s] Amy, I can fly. [1698.6s] I'm going to try and catch her. [1699.6s] It was breaking apart. [1700.6s] It's not your turn. [1701.6s] I would like to. [1702.6s] I still have... [1704.6s] In the future. [1705.6s] In the future. [1706.6s] Yes, I can wild shape as a bonus action. [1709.6s] Sure you can. [1710.6s] You've got one other action still. [1711.6s] And a bonus action. [1712.6s] Okay. [1713.6s] Can I stab it while we're in the air and then wild shape? [1716.6s] Because I feel angry. [1717.6s] Sure. [1718.6s] Or you could wild shape into something and then attack it. [1720.6s] Yeah, that would... [1721.6s] However you want to stack it. [1722.6s] Okay. [1723.6s] No, I'll wild shape into something. [1725.6s] I don't know if this would work. [1727.6s] It might be stretching it a bit. [1729.6s] I have something called hold the line, which is basically sentry. [1734.6s] So if a creature is moving in a way that would provoke an opportunity attack, I could [1740.6s] attack it and change its speed to zero. [1742.6s] I don't know if I could stop them by... [1744.6s] You're just going to straight up grab it by the collar? [1747.6s] Just reaction, yeah? [1749.6s] Yeah. [1750.6s] Would that provoke an opportunity attack? [1751.6s] Is it moving in a way where that would trigger? [1753.6s] I don't know. [1755.6s] It's a post-it note. [1756.6s] I've had to... [1757.6s] Got to try. [1758.6s] Is the thorn whip pulling it past? [1761.6s] Yeah, I like it. [1762.6s] I like it. [1763.6s] I like it. [1764.6s] Yeah, let's do it. [1765.6s] So yeah, if you hit it, then this thing stops the fall. [1768.6s] Okay. [1769.6s] Hit it. [1770.6s] I don't want to fall in stuff anymore. [1773.6s] Shit, what's its AC? [1776.6s] 16. [1777.6s] Yeah, 15. [1779.6s] Again, with the space between the bones, it's so confusing. [1785.6s] It's like right between the ribs and then... [1788.6s] Theo pulls this creature in and Agatha, you try and reach out, but just miss, just nick [1794.6s] the collar bone as the momentum takes over and Thea tumbles with this thing over the [1801.6s] edge. [1802.6s] What are you wild shaping it to? [1804.6s] A shark. [1805.6s] Pick a shark. [1806.6s] It's going to be a shark. [1807.6s] There's water below, right? [1809.6s] You don't know what's below. [1810.6s] It's dark. [1811.6s] Could be a goose. [1812.6s] I see a goose there. [1813.6s] A cute pig. [1814.6s] A king of... [1815.6s] Geese are pretty scary. [1816.6s] A king of chickens. [1817.6s] Yeah, geese are real wild. [1819.6s] Terrifying. [1820.6s] Swans are pretty mean. [1821.6s] Yeah, swans are real mean. [1823.6s] What about like a giant eagle or something? [1826.6s] Or alternately, a very small bird that could get out of the grip. [1831.6s] Just get out of the grass. [1833.6s] Like a little sparrow. [1835.6s] Eagle. [1836.6s] Okay, you turn into an eagle. [1839.6s] Okay. [1841.6s] Well, now I need to fight as an eagle. [1843.6s] I need a fucking monster stack, Russell. [1845.6s] You're an eagle. [1846.6s] So you like... [1848.6s] I want to attack it as it falls down. [1850.6s] I'm mad. [1851.6s] You want to hedge your bets and attack it. [1853.6s] I would say you'd be more inclined to let it go as it's falling down. [1856.6s] Falling into an unknown... [1857.6s] It's just falling into the abyss. [1858.6s] You can fly, it can't fly. [1860.6s] Well, that we know of. [1862.6s] True. [1863.6s] Okay, you turn into an eagle. [1864.6s] Yeah. [1865.6s] You wriggle free and you begin to fly back up, leaving this thing to fall back [1869.6s] down. [1870.6s] The bones, we're following it. [1872.6s] So most of them are going over the edge through whatever force that's drawing [1878.6s] them together have also followed down over the edge. [1881.6s] And you're out of combat as maybe an eagle comes back up and over the edge. [1887.6s] Well, we should probably make a break for it while we can. [1890.6s] Cool. [1892.6s] It's not been an eagle. [1894.6s] Did it wreck that bridge that was held on by threads? [1898.6s] Hold on by threads? [1899.6s] No. [1900.6s] Okay. [1901.6s] Then, yeah, I say we keep going. [1904.6s] You pick up pace and begin moving quickly towards the bridge and you get there. [1909.6s] And yeah, like I said, it looks like it's hanging on by a thread. [1913.6s] How do you wish to proceed? [1915.6s] Well, if we have an eagle that can fly over, we have a cleric who can fly. [1920.6s] Oh, also I can fly. [1921.6s] So now it's left to the two fighter types and a ghost horse. [1926.6s] Rax and I are both perhaps too heavy for this. [1934.6s] Do we still have the magic carpet? [1936.6s] I was just going to say, my eagle flies up and says, what about the magic carpet? [1942.6s] Ka. [1948.6s] Yeah, let's get the old carpet out. [1952.6s] And I say, you tear and it unrolls. [1957.6s] And I think we have made this work before. [1962.6s] Yeah. [1963.6s] I mean, you're flying. [1964.6s] Thea's flying. [1965.6s] So you've got tall gear, a horse. [1968.6s] Just might need to make a couple trips. [1970.6s] Yeah. [1971.6s] Got to make a couple trips. [1972.6s] How far is it? [1973.6s] This is like the fox. [1974.6s] It's like a riddle. [1975.6s] It is. [1976.6s] Exactly. [1977.6s] We've got a sack of grain, a fox and a sheep. [1980.6s] I like that you've created your own problem to get over this. [1983.6s] I love it. [1984.6s] I like how Carla was very logical about it. [1987.6s] We'll do multiple trips. [1988.6s] Here I am trying to puzzle together. [1990.6s] How can we fit all three of them onto it at the same time? [1992.6s] Someone's got to ride the horse, obviously. [1995.6s] Turns out I'm not on good terms with the horse, so we can't take the carpet together. [2001.6s] How much can his carpet carry? [2004.6s] 800 pounds. [2006.6s] How much is a demon horse? [2008.6s] I don't know. [2009.6s] Less than 800 pounds. [2011.6s] 799. [2012.6s] 799. [2014.6s] I mean an adult horse, so says the internet, weighs 380 to 1,000 kilograms. [2022.6s] Oh boy. [2023.6s] Yeah. [2024.6s] Okay. [2025.6s] The heavy. [2026.6s] But like he's part demon, so obviously that shapes like... [2029.6s] Demon horses have hollow bones. [2031.6s] Everybody knows that. [2033.6s] We're all aware of this fact. [2035.6s] Everyone knows that. [2036.6s] All right. [2037.6s] Get the horse on the magic carpet. [2038.6s] Let's see what happens. [2039.6s] This could take some convincing. [2041.6s] Do we have... [2043.6s] Oh, I can't cast spells when I'm an eagle. [2046.6s] He has to go alone. [2048.6s] And I think the carpet's going to push to its limit. [2054.6s] All right. [2055.6s] We're talking about this in character now. [2056.6s] How are we getting the horse across a bridge? [2058.6s] What if we tied a rope to the flying carpet [2063.6s] and dangled the horse from the rope [2066.6s] and then I with my strong talon claws pulled also upward [2072.6s] relieving some of the weight of the horse from the carpet? [2079.6s] I mean that's one plan. [2081.6s] I'll do it too. [2082.6s] I got big talons. [2083.6s] Look at me. [2084.6s] I'm a little tiny pseudo dragon. [2085.6s] Yeah, you're an eagle. [2086.6s] You're not much bigger. [2087.6s] The end ball. [2088.6s] You can fly underneath the horse. [2089.6s] Try the tiny satchel or did you just disappear? [2093.6s] No, I jumped out. [2095.6s] Whenever you go, I leap. [2097.6s] Oh, that's really good. [2099.6s] That's very intuitive of you. [2100.6s] Well, it's happened once before and you go to this weird place [2104.6s] and there's no crackers there. [2106.6s] I am skeptical that Rex will agree to this being bound. [2114.6s] Does anyone know how to fix a rope bridge? [2116.6s] Can we just fix the rope with our rope? [2119.6s] That's possible. [2122.6s] How damaged is the bridge? [2124.6s] Is it really just the end? [2125.6s] Is like the rope is worn? [2127.6s] A person could step onto it. [2129.6s] It's just frayed. [2130.6s] What are you, a little horse, Russell? [2131.6s] I mean it looks like a haunted house rope bridge [2137.6s] that's got like the wiggle as you walk across it. [2140.6s] We're all familiar. [2141.6s] Yeah, that's what it looks like. [2144.6s] You said it was quite frayed at the end. [2148.6s] So maybe I will put some new rope on the old rope, tie that up. [2154.6s] How far is it? [2155.6s] Can I just zip to the other end, flying of course. [2158.6s] See if maybe those are the weak points. [2160.6s] Do the same thing. [2161.6s] How long is your rope? [2162.6s] I don't know. [2163.6s] Normal rope length. [2164.6s] 30? [2165.6s] Yeah, sure. [2166.6s] But I'm not putting the whole rope on the whole thing. [2168.6s] I'm putting some rope at the end. [2170.6s] You're good. [2171.6s] I'm not re-roping the whole bridge. [2174.6s] All right. [2175.6s] I have one level of exhaustion. [2177.6s] I can't be re-roping a bridge all day. [2179.6s] Oh, oh, oh, oh. [2183.6s] It's magic. [2184.6s] You know. [2190.6s] Would it help if, and my satchel is still on me in my bird form [2198.6s] and I kind of sat over to them and I'm like, look in here. [2205.6s] I have the diamonds. [2208.6s] Would that be helpful? [2209.6s] You have what? [2210.6s] You cut out right at that moment. [2212.6s] I cut out. [2213.6s] I have the diamonds. [2214.6s] Would that be helpful? [2215.6s] Oh, the jumpy diamonds. [2217.6s] Oh, wait. [2218.6s] Neither of you know what the jumpy diamonds are. [2220.6s] No one knows. [2221.6s] So OK. [2222.6s] Carla knows. [2223.6s] Nobody knows. [2224.6s] No one knows. [2225.6s] I am just a bird looking at two people wondering if these diamonds are going to help. [2231.6s] Just a bird standing in front of another bird. [2233.6s] Yes, the diamond. [2236.6s] Trying to get a horse across the chasm. [2239.6s] What are the jumpy diamonds? [2241.6s] The diamonds are very pretty, but I don't know. [2244.6s] These are teleportation diamonds. [2246.6s] So if you were to throw a diamond and then look at a spot and then catch it, [2252.6s] you will teleport to the place that you see. [2255.6s] How do we communicate that? [2256.6s] Can a horse do this? [2258.6s] You can talk to horses Yanbook, can't you? [2261.6s] Well, these more difficult concepts are a little bit hard. [2265.6s] How does the horse throw it? [2268.6s] Also, how does the horse catch it? [2273.6s] Now, I also have a tome of thunderstep. [2275.6s] Do you think you could open a book, say some words, [2279.6s] close the book and then teleport itself to a place it can see? [2284.6s] Guys, I can get from one place to another, but you need hands. [2287.6s] Racks, work with me. [2290.6s] Work with me, racks. [2294.6s] Now that I've rope fixed the end of the bridge, can I go into the middle of the bridge, [2299.6s] stand on it, and just jump up and down a lot to see how secure it is? [2303.6s] Because I can fly, so it's fine. [2305.6s] I just want to see, how is it? [2307.6s] Does it seem secure? [2309.6s] I know I don't weigh as much as a horse, but I'm putting a lot of movement. [2314.6s] Here's another plan. [2316.6s] What if we get the horse to cross the bridge with the carpet underneath the bridge, [2323.6s] pushing up the whole way so that it's like the carpet. [2328.6s] Oh yeah, the horse can't drive the carpet either. [2333.6s] The horse has to take the bridge. [2336.6s] The horse had problems with the astral plane thinking about going forward, [2340.6s] let alone keep driving a carpet. [2343.6s] Okay, listen, here's how you do it. [2348.6s] This is where you lose a gath. [2352.6s] She and the horse have to stay on the side of the bridge. [2355.6s] This riddle is too much for us. [2357.6s] She refuses to leave the horse. [2359.6s] You know how we always focus on the horses a lot? [2362.6s] Yeah. [2363.6s] So should we just try? [2364.6s] I'm just real scared to lose the horse. [2367.6s] Me too. [2369.6s] If it breaks. [2371.6s] I mean, Russ would have to be a real dick right now for us to lose the horse. [2375.6s] It's all I'm saying. [2377.6s] And I mean, we've just brainstormed a lot of really good ideas. [2381.6s] Okay, commit to your plan. [2384.6s] I think you two should go on the carpet. [2386.6s] You can go beside Rax. [2388.6s] Rax can go across the bridge, and we will all go together as a group. [2392.6s] But, you know, flying, flying, walking. [2395.6s] How deep is the chasm? [2397.6s] We don't know. [2399.6s] Can't see the bottom? [2401.6s] Can't see the bottom. [2405.6s] Would you? Oh, here, hold on. [2407.6s] And I want to fly down and see what's in the mist. [2412.6s] Oh, see. [2413.6s] Oh, no. [2414.6s] This seems like a poor idea. [2415.6s] I hate Russ's face. [2418.6s] I'd like to fly into the dark mist, please. [2421.6s] I changed my mind. [2423.6s] Just did a real quick swoop drive by. [2425.6s] Got close, had a real bad feeling. [2427.6s] I did. I got to the mist. [2429.6s] It was moist in there, and I just didn't want to get my feathers wet. [2436.6s] And I fly back up, and I say, no, never mind. [2440.6s] Come on, let's do this thing. [2442.6s] Agath will, I guess, like, attach the bridle and like, you know, pull it over his head [2449.6s] and, like, try and get positioned on the carpet to try and lead the horse across the bridge. [2457.6s] Seems like such a bad idea. [2460.6s] Oh, God. [2462.6s] Don't have any spells for this. [2464.6s] Wait, worse than having the horse try to throw and catch a diamond [2468.6s] and end up in a location of its choosing? [2473.6s] Oh, my God. [2475.6s] I mean, for ranking though. [2477.6s] We're so smart. [2478.6s] I say we just, Russ is like, this is not where you guys are supposed to get tripped up. [2483.6s] No. [2484.6s] This is what happens always. [2485.6s] If there was someone else here, I don't know how we've tricked Kristin into being one of us, [2489.6s] but I swear if there was like anyone else we've ever played with, [2492.6s] they'd just be like, oh, you see, you should just blank, blank, blank. [2495.6s] And then there's always just some solution. [2497.6s] It's the most obvious in the world. [2500.6s] Can I call a physics professor real quick? [2506.6s] Climb aboard the magic carpet, set up racks. [2509.6s] All right. [2510.6s] I will put my face right against his translucent, creepy, [2515.6s] see the veins and muscles beneath face, that really sweet, terrifying face. [2521.6s] And I'll be. [2524.6s] Now you will walk in a straight line. [2528.6s] Don't look down. [2531.6s] Perhaps look at the board so you do not step between the boards. [2535.6s] That would not be ideal. [2538.6s] Look out in front. [2540.6s] Move steadily. [2543.6s] And we will make it to the other side. [2546.6s] Do not fear. [2550.6s] We have. [2552.6s] Gods to find and. [2556.6s] Terrible things to kill, and I know how much you love that. [2565.6s] There is much recognition as you can get from racks. [2569.6s] You get in that moment. [2571.6s] You climb aboard the magic carpet and everybody sets off and racks [2575.6s] takes that first step and you hear creaking and like pulling of the ropes. [2582.6s] And it takes the second one. [2584.6s] His weight begins to push the bridge down. [2589.6s] You find yourself making your way slowly across this bridge [2595.6s] till about halfway and one of them gives way, snaps. [2601.6s] Kind of panics the horse in a moment. [2604.6s] Shh. Shh. [2606.6s] Focus. Focus. [2609.6s] Horse steals and begins moving forward, stepping over the broken board. [2616.6s] It's a very tense, long few minutes as you slowly make your way across [2623.6s] until finally you step up and on to the other side. [2630.6s] Collapse with exhaustion. [2634.6s] Caw. [2640.6s] It's a Caw of triumph. [2644.6s] You turn and you look up these steps towards this castle before you, looming before you [2651.6s] and you see carved into the wall above the door is a giant raven's head. We'll talk again soon. [2728.6s] Oh yeah, this is what it looks like. [2730.6s] Yeah. [2731.6s] Oh, that's terrifying. [2732.6s] Pretty gross. [2733.6s] I like it. [2734.6s] Gross. [2735.6s] Then I want to, I want to take back my previous upset about Primsbane. [2740.6s] Because it's cool. [2741.6s] No, because it was- [2742.6s] Orgas is fine, but fuck Primsbane. [2745.6s] In a book, which means Primsbane didn't just like piece it together. [2750.6s] Yeah, because this book exists in forgotten realms. [2754.6s] No, but the monster likely does. [2758.6s] Let's not think of that's how monsters work. [2760.6s] Because they're in a monster manual, therefore they are natural. [2764.6s] Yeah. [2765.6s] Okay, fine. Fuck Primsbane. Fuck that guy. [2768.6s] That's right. You can keep your, keep your business. [2770.6s] Keep my anger? [2771.6s] Back to the top. Yenbowl. [2773.6s] I haven't gone yet. [2774.6s] Oh. [2775.6s] And I also haven't gone yet. [2776.6s] Oh, Thea, sorry. I just, I was going down being like, [2779.6s] they hit you in this order and I'm like, yeah, that's it. [2782.6s] I can't tell you how many times Rossa skipped my turn. [2786.6s] I think it's happened to all of us. [2789.6s] I like how we're like, we are just completely railroading this thing. [2792.6s] We're just like, yeah, listen, we're not passing this bridge unless you can promise us the safety of the horse. [2797.6s] We need safety guaranteed for the demon horse. [2799.6s] I need it in writing. [2800.6s] Look, we're not saving Flint because if we save him, he's the end of the world. [2804.6s] But this motherfucking horse is important to us. [2807.6s] I'm putting up more fight for this horse than for any of my characters who have died. [2812.6s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a Dumb Dragons production.
